Hi, welcome to all wine lovers. Just sharing some of my experiences as part of the consumers of wine in Malaysia.
I prefer wine around the range of RM60 to RM100.
Currently, I would prefer the Errazuric Cab Sauv, 2010, Chile Wine for around rm85 and Banfi Col Di Sasso , 2009, from Italy at over RM100.
This thread is open for everyone to share their point of view as well as their experiences. However there are some questions that i would like to direct to all the readers of this post :

1. What are the price range you would offer for a decent bottle of wine you occasionally drink?
2. For frequent drinkers or wine lovers, would you prefer to enjoy a fine bottle of wine of specific branding or will any wine of any branding be enough to satisfy your craving?
3. If you are new to wine, how much would you pay for your first bottle of wine?

Feel free to share smile.gif

i saw in a movie about food before, they went to some supermarket something like tesco and they are trying to buy back some food to go back home cook, 1 bottle of wine is Euro0.99

and yea, RM12 in langkawi is like RM30 in other part of malaysia. Sometimes Giant got sell wine that cost below RM20, also you can find quite a few brand which cost around RM20 to RM30 in Giant too

PS: oh ya, stimix punya wine i don't think drinkable now liao, maybe can drink without perut sakit la, but taste all sure run away liao. and i doubt since he got only 1 bottle, chances are he storing it in the correct place......lol

u sure it didnt turn sour ah ? as far as i know, u dun have wine chiller leh ? and keeping it inside your house instead of a basement isnt a good idea as temperature differences will affect the wine and at most instances will turn the wine sour into vinegar

*
anyways, lemme answer all these questions biggrin.gif

1. Any price ranging from RM50-RM150
2. I dont have any specific brand that i would like to drink. just a beginner.
3. I would certainly like to start with the most affordable wine IF i am starting to drink / if its my first bottle of wine.

If you know the disti price of wine before it gets to the retailer, my guess is most people will stop buying from retailers. The markup is ridiculous.

I just took a case of Reymos Sparkling White from my supplier the other day (6 bottles) cos my other half loves sparkling white. Each bottle is only around RM 32... I've seen the same exact same bottle selling for 90~120 in retail shops.. Even online, it's being sold for 70+..

Find a wine that you like, and start getting to know the disti that carries it. It helps to buy in cases as you can negotiate for better pricing. My distributor says wines here are expensive partly because of tax, and the other main contributor is retailer markup.

OK, just to update. After upcar & your comment, I stored the wine inside my fridge till Yesterday when I atlast bought a gooding cork opener. Yes liao.. that cork patah & crumbled inside the wine.. sad.gif cry.gif ...Thereafter me korek wth chopstick & luckily managed to take out that cork. The remaining of the cork pieces..me using filter nia when I pour to the glass blush.gif

The best... yeah... that 2001 wine..tasted so nice.. much better than those I tasted so far...no kerosene or vinegar smell.. just fruity, dry & not sweet feeling... gooding for sure rclxms.gif ...So who say keeping for years no good biggrin.gif ..well except for the cork...

Oh BTW, it;s not french wine.. it's Australian. blush.gif

Me too.. I can tell a good wine from a bad wine by sniffing and tasting, but not by its price.

I've had fantastic wines for dirt cheap, and had crappy ones for very expensive prices.

anyone can recommend a good and affordable white wine?
Wine newbie, often overwhelmed by all the different wine in hypermarket stores... Normally just tembak but didn't like them after tried.
Prefer fruity and less-dry type.

In Malaysia, never buy wines below RM30 those are terrible! If you guy want to try good wine try purple angel. It is a Chile wine but it is quite an expensive range. President Obama serve this wine during all his functions.

1. Any price, as long as the wine catches my eye. =D
2. I don't buy the same bottle unless my other half likes it, it's a wide adventure in the world of wine, i always buy a box of 12 all different types, sparkling, rose, red, white, anything!
3. My first bottle of wine is a Rose, since malaysia is so hot, a chilled rose would be great to quench my thirst ! <3

Next time if you think the cork is dried and will patah inside, try pushing the cork inside, then use a clean ribbon to pull it out, need to use a bit man power to do so cause will create vacuum.

Refrigerator de air very dry, the cork will definitely dry and crack if kept inside long time, but then not all wine will improve after aging, need to see what type of wine then only can know.

Btw, your conversation with Upcar is very funny, thanks for the laugh. xD
