Morning guys!

In the topic of drilling and modifying parts. Can anyone suggest a good way to enlarge the inner diameter for the hotend barrel? I need to enlarge the diameter to around 2mm so that i can slip a teflon tube inside it.

Thanks in advance.

you need a drill press and a vice smile.gif like this one  icon_rolleyes.gif unless you really have a steady hand just clamp it and drill tongue.gif

Tested the -ve terminal of 5A to both the hot end terminal, both measure 12v...when turned on the hot end, one of the hot end terminal measure 0v. Possibly faulty hot end?

Instead of testing the hotend for current you should check the heater cartridge instead.

Guys!

I have bought a PEEK J-head extruder recently but to my surprise the area where the j-head touches the heat cube started to melt when i fire up the heat cartridge. When I took the extruder apart, i found that not only the contact area around the j-head and heat cube have melted but the thread inside the j-head also seems to have melted by the heat transmitted by the barrel. Is this suppose to be normal or did i bought a faulty extruder?

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

I guess you got yourself a faulty thermistor in the J-head hotend.

I had that happen to me before and it was really funny. The hotend was working like normal for a few months and suddenly one day I sense a funny plastic smell and the next thing I realize was the heating block melting the PEEK barrel and fell off the barrel. I was lucky to have noticed it and identified the problem as faulty thermistor because the host could not reach the set point temperature and continuously heat the hotend till it fell off.

You might want to get a replacement for that.

Thanks! Im in the process of applying for a full refund or a replacement from the seller. biggrin.gif

That extruder really took me by surprise.

Guys!

I bought a new extruder which has a longer j-head compare to my previous extruder (almost twice the length). This has reduce the printable area for the z-axis by quite a lot. Is there anything i can do to reclaim those printable area?

Thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

you can move up the extruder mounting higher to reclaim the space. What kind of printer and extruder setup is it?

P/S: if you have the original extruder STL file i can edit it for you to move the mounting holes. (there is a limit of how high you can go before the weight of the extruder becomes a huge enough lever that the mounting would bend)

Hi bro,

Thanks for the help in advance! That is what i like about this little small community of ours. Everyone is willing to help each other to keep the community growing.

Anyway, im using a Blomker Prusa i3. The STL can be found here. The new extruder which i bought is similar to this.

Once again thanks in advance. biggrin.gif

P.S. By the way, anyone know if there is a way to remove a broken barrel from a j-head?

Finally back from an event and I am surprise to see some on going activity here.

About your broken barrel (or was it melted barrel?), you can use a spanner on the j-head heating block and a large pliers on the barrel to dismantle them.

The barrel practically snapped into 2. I will snap a picture later when i return home from work.

Thanks again.

Hi guys! I'm looking to get myself a second printer. Does anyone knows if I can get a wanhao/monoprice printer locally?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Folger Tech Cloner kit with heater bed and dual extruders still in the box unopen since arrival. The parts and design is similar to the wanhao duplicator 4 but the frame is laminated MDF, you might want to source the acrylic or steel frame locally.

Earlier I bought and built the oak wood frame version and the parts came complete with a lot of extra vitamins. I manage to build and print in PETG with it but I did not use all the parts because some of the oak frame were warped. The MDF frame should not have any warpage issue and it only occurs for natural wood boards.

If you like you can PM me for the price.

Thanks for the offer bro but I'm looking for something sturdier and without much hassle.

Cheers! biggrin.gif

It has been a while i visited this group! How is everyone? biggrin.gif

By the way, has anyone work with DLP printer (or was it a UV resin printer) before? Is there a separate thread for it?

Thanks in advance.

Doing fine here but business sure slowed down a lot this year. Doing other ventures now but still keeping 3D printing alive.

Coincidentally I just ordered one SLA 3D printer from AliExpress. biggrin.gif

Basically not much to learn except to keep the resin sealed from lights and the liquid resin would stink up the entire room.

altan! Long time no see!

Which brand of SLA printer did you get? Im planning to get my Prusa i3 running again after putting it on storage for so long. Might need your help with printing some of the parts or perhaps i will get myself a new printer with aluminium frame and use that i3 as spare parts.

Same here!

I got the SLA from Anycube. I can't comment about their build quality  just yet because I just placed an order and now waiting for delivery.

I recommend you get the one with the aluminium joints instead of 3D printing the joints. Nowadays prices for 3D printers and spare parts have dropped by a lot. You probably have to replace the lubricant and clean out the gunk on the rods and bearings before using if you do plan to revive it. tongue.gif
*
So you are getting the Anycube Photon huh? I actually have my eyes on it too. Looks like a good entry level SLA printer. General review on it seems to be good too for that price range. Let me know once you get your hands on it and test it out.

Yeah, i would prefer to get some aluminium joints/parts too. Any idea where i can get it? There is will be ALOT of work for me to get that Prusa i3 to work again. tongue.gif

Yup, the Anycube Photon. It is a good price for an entry level SLA with that build volume (155x115x65 mm) and sheet metal casing. Impressed by the spec but I don't know how it would perform once I get mine.

I will drop a short review here once I played with it smile.gif

I got bits and pieces of parts from a Prusa i3 I bought off a long time ago. I have to see whats left of it. I normally just order the parts from China because everywhere else is the same  sweat.gif .
*
It is getting a generally positive review out there and i am keen to actually get one to try it out. Would be great to have a local like you around to discuss about it in the future.

I notice you are into figurines and stuff. You should get the DLP/SLA instead of the FDM ones. So far printing small and highly detailed figurines have been a pain for me using my FDM. I mean I can print small figurines at 50 microns layer resolution but I am never satisfied with the final surface detail.

Lol, would be great if there is a community for 3D printing here so we can gather IRL and discuss some day.
*
Yeah. Im into figurines but not keen as when i was younger. tongue.gif
I would say that i am a tinkerer. That is why i bought the FDM printer in the first place. And now i am so tempted to get myself a DLP printer since the price is alot more affordable then it used to be. I bet once we start to print on DLP we arent going back to FDM. LOL!!! tongue.gif
