You might want to check the connector end on the board but even with a 6 cable connector and a 4 pin connector on the board, you can still run the motor but you might have to flip and shift the cable connector around a few times to get the stepper to rotate in the correct direction.

Also, it unlikely you can change the board because, the reprap control boards like the ramps 1.4 board are designed for driving bipolar or 4 pole stepper motors. I have not come across a unipolar or 6 pole stepper motor drivers before for repraps printers.

No I haven't, thanks for the link, it'll be interesting if I have to take care of this myself.

That's the spirit of reprap, you have to "take care of this" problem and that problem until you find the best solution to make your printer work the way you want it too.

Don't mind that much of course, and it's great that we have a support group here. hahaha. wink.gif

Yeah, bloody expensive.. interesting & cleaner alternative to putty though, as long as your application doesn't exceed 40 degrees. wink.gif

Good luck, its going to be a heck of a long print.

How can you print a frame that's biggest than the platform? Or is this frame a smaller version?

Make sure when you order the proximity sensor they are the Normally-Closed (NC) types because I accidentally bought a set of Normally-Open (NO) types without noticing.  sweat.gif

Its a waste and I can only use them for my other projects.

Same goes for PTC and NTC thermistors, they both sense heat but resistance value changes in different direction.
Yup, still trying to sell the set...  tongue.gif

Yeah, I also accidentally bought NO thermistors when attempting to mod my UP! Luckily I realized something was wrong before replacing the chip! tongue.gif

Ok.. I received my shipment of timing belt tension springs.. there's no way I'm gonna need FIFTY of them, so who wants to try it on their timing belts?

It's this one, in case there're other timing belt things I don't know of.

Dude.. it's a teeny tiny spring, the envelope and postage would probably cost more than the stupid thing... Buy me coffee or something? heheh.

Guys...which 3d printer should a beginner go with?
*
As @altan has already mentioned, 3D Printing is not for the faint of heart yet.

I have the UP! Mini printer, which is one of the most user friendly retail printers out there, and still I had to go through months of experimentation, and some hardware tweaks before I can get it to print satisfactorily!! tongue.gif

You need to understand the hardships in owning one of these things. Heck when I saw this paragraph in the user manual I asked myself what did I get myself into

"Sometimes the printer head may be jammed and clogged, please disassemble it and then soak the nozzle in acetone for a day to clear it up"

I didn't even know how many screws held my print head together at that point!

wnyeen I am not trying to sound discouraging but this is something anyone wanting to go into have to know before considering for a 3D printer. I think as a beginner going into this as a hobby, there isn't a printer that is "easy" to use yet and the best choice is to get a printer you can afford at less than RM 2K but willing to spend another 300 to 500 for tools, supplies and spare parts. Also, be sure to put in some of your free time in tinkering with the printer.

Yeah, my Mendel is still partially completed on my work desk since I can't go and finish it. tongue.gif

Would prefer build , more fun...but wouldn't wan to search high n low for parts...budget around 2k

Buy a kit from the local suppliers, like Blomker, then you don't need to go find parts.

How do u guys compare between prusa i3 and kossel mini ?
*
The theory is that the Kossel prints faster because of the way it moves.

To me it just looks unique in it's design. tongue.gif

More like lost the business card  biggrin.gif and I normally level with the hotend warmed up to 210 Deg so any hotend expansion is taken into account with the leveling for the first layer.
Normally, I only check when the first layer print is having problems, otherwise I won't disturb the bed. I also notice the bed level will shift especially after removing a finish print that was stuck to the bed. Probably the prying and pulling caused the problem.
*
Since I haven't finished my RepRap (priorities...) I'm not sure how you the RepRap levels the bed? For my Up 3D we key in the variance of the corners from the given nozzle height limit, to do that I basically made a.. feeler meter(?) with a piece of paper to know how far out it is.
