might want to make note of the inpending interest rates and fees changes

looks like banks will have a free hand to set the interest rates they want
http://www.hsbc.com.my/1/PA_1_1_S5/content...rges_notice.pdf
*
Looks like rates are coming back to its original levels a few years back.
1.5% per month or 18% per annum.

It's either BNM relaxing the ruling or perhaps the ruling is actually a guideline (from BNM) to the banks.

Evn CIMB also charge Cross-Border charge for using thier CC at Apple Store.
Blame Apple Store Malaysia !!!
*
Seems this (Cross-Border charge) problem only applicable to CIMB & HLB credit cards.
Apple Store Malaysia execute their payment via SG and likely to use a SG based bank & gateway - as far as they are concerned they instructed the bank to charge in the exact amount due in MYR. They have no knowledge of any additional charge (if any) that the other bank will charge to the users. And this transaction (and if any other charge) is passed on to the respective bank that the cardholders holds.

Disputing the charge would not help as CIMB or HLB would explain the cross-border charges to the user and cancel the dispute. I know coz I have done it before a few years back.

I wouldn't exactly blame Apple Store Malaysia as the problem is localized only to when users using HLB and CIMB cards. The best we can do is to advise our readers in here.

P/S : Can TS update the 1st post to reflect Cross-Border charge problem if it is not stated already?

called by a cc officer today... he asked whether i have buy anything online with my cc or not.. 2 item each 2k something.. i nvr buy anything online yesterday...
the officer say will block my card n issue a new card for me n ask i fill up something...
so will they still charge me & do i still need to pay that?  need icon_question.gif from sifu here
*
In a fraud transaction, such verifications occurs and the bank will block/cancel the old card and reissue you with a new one. Subsequently the bank will ask you to fill in a form which is called a transaction dispute form. Wait for a few days and see whether the transaction appears in your account. You'll need this info to fill into your form anyway if it does appears. (e.g Among info required are Date of Transaction, Transaction, Amount. Signature, declaration, etc)

Transaction dispute takes a while to clear off and there's nothing to be worried if you are not accountable for the transaction. It is absolutely wrong and gravely incorrect to say if you raise transaction dispute you'll automatically need not pay. There are many reasons why a person would raise the transaction dispute and the bank investigate throughly every one of the cases before they'll remove the transaction from your account. Note that the cardholder is viable for such transactions if there's an element of negligence leading to the transaction.

Next time, please reveal the bank's name as well - no sifu here can guess the bank's name. Different banks have slight different processes but generally you still need to fill up the transaction dispute.

Has anyone focus on loan from credit cards?

I know that Stan. Chart. has this Cheque On Call feature, which allow quick loan from the CL with attractive interest rate.

How about others like Maybank or CIMB?
*
Please stick to credit card discussion only. No loan talk.
I don't appreciate it if topics are mixed up and FYI loan from credit cards are very expensive - we don't tolerate debt building the wrong way in here.

IMO, this has slowly become a credit card's feature, be it COC or CashTreats, which I think will help the forumers to decide which card to apply if this feature is important to them.
*
If you have this kind intention to inform the public then it is good. It is even better to also educate the public both the features and the cons of such features. Many would only want to mention the getting the money part but forgetting the interest and risk of such debts - we don't want one sided information.

Thank you Bro Human Nature
Just to compliment what is already written ... an honest advise to frequent travelers
1. Do consider getting an annual travel insurance if you travel often.
2. Often the travel insurance offered by credit card companies or airlines are "lesser" vs if you were to get it directly from the insurance companies. Too many people want to benefit from "YOU" and you'll end up with less.
3. Good things are not cheap AND cheap things are not good. If anyone reading this does not believe me - don't be lazy. Do your own research of travel insurance products from insurance companies / airlines vs. free travel insurance from credit cards.

Above was mentioned here some time back in February/March. Besides AmBank, Citibank and HSBC also raised the late payment penalty fee. I also posted a short posts at my wordpress blog where I gave link to the respective banks site in new interest rates and late penalty charges.
Been following the last couple of days/weeks post and I don't understand why people are making such a fuss about banks raising the late payment penalty fees.
The fees is only applicable to those who pay their credit card bills late and it'll be especially troubling for habitual late paymasters coz it will hurt them the most - their pockets.

To me, the banks can be charging RM1K (or even whatever amount) for late penalty fees but if you always pay on time or paying earlier than the due date then who cares ? Banks will never collect and would not benefit from you!

I done tat on Citibank today. The telegrapher said will pass the case to his manager & wait for approval. I was asking for 100% credit limit increment.
Not to throw cold water to this statement but a lot of readers who traverse this forum would think this is the right approach to do when asking for a CL increase and (more often than not) believe it'll get a 100% success rate. The worrying part is that a lot of our readers well ... just don't understand what are they asking for or doing.

Appreciate if the enthusiasm can be toned down a little and to keep in mind a lot of people will be copying whatever is written in here for their benefit and/or peril.

Bros, my children Enrich points expiring end of this year, and I taking them to Australia. Assuming the on sale ticket (up to this Saturday) can be upgraded, each of them only need 13K Enrich Points to upgrade to Business Class. Can I redeem for Enrich points with my Treats Points for my children? If yes, what are the procedures because when I went to MBB website, I noted the redemption form does not have a place to fill the Enrich membership number.
*
Call in MBB to do up the conversion for you. As conversion can varies from one card type to another, sometimes the online redemption system is not able to accomodate it.

Your main concern would be how fast would the Enrich Points be reflected in the account. If you are talking about tomorrow's Saturday then you'll need all the luck that you can get - it'll take a miracle for the points to appear that fast.

Anyway I know Premier Miles allows rebate using the mile points to "pay" for traveling expenses incurred which I would presume flights and hotels. Would you know whether it covers normal retail overseas?
*
I believe Premier Miles rebate system is basically the bank's way of "converting" your points into cash. The rebate minus off the total of a particular month bill if it is used. Thus I believe the rebate works the same for both local and overseas retail expenses.

Before everyone were to jump into using Premier Miles ... I need to mention the competing card would be MBB VI and WMC. (if you qualify and can afford the card)

lets say  credit card holder has about 40k debt and passed away without paying that amount.

what happens after that? will the bank target the family members of the deceased? or is there any kind of insurance that could waive the whole debt?
*
The bank will claim the dues from the estate that is under the deceased name. This can include but not limited to EPF, bank, estate, etc.
There is such insurance but it need to be subscribed before the cardholder is deceased and not every bank offers it.

Interesting as the last 7-10 days many people come in here (CC section) with question that can lead to build cc debts without realizing the consequences if the whole thing spirals out of control. In most cases, they have the perceived notion that they know what they are doing.

shakehead.gif Myself being brushed off one too many times by 'kids' who are cc novice but think highly of themselves.

Yes and no. Not every place accept cc for passport renewal.
The one in Malacca does not but the one in KL-Pusat Bandar Damansara does.

Hard to say because it all depends on the respective T&C that was signed at the point of the card application. Be prepared for a legal fight if necessary and we don't have any visibility nor anyone here are suited to provide you with a legal advise that you need.

I believe I can even complain to Maybank/AMEX right, since they're using Maybank's terminal?
Thanks for standing up for yourself! At least our education here has not gone in vain and it is shocking that a well known retailer dare to attempt such a thing.
You may complain but Maybank is likely to ask for evidence of the surcharge. Retailers are aware of this as well thus they do not separate the cost of the item and the surcharge - same tactic all over the world. That's why shops will either cost the surcharge into the item price and indicate it as one single price or ask you to pay for the surcharge in cash so that the evidence of their crime is not visible.

Bank penalties for the surcharge conviction can make the retailers cry even for first time offenders. Let alone if caught twice.

No. Not supposed to. There's some info exchanged but it is more towards verification purposes and that's done electronically with the merchant having zero visibility on the info exchanged.

What's yr concern ?

Sorry, I didn't see the posts anywhere.

I was informed by the credit card centre that if I can only use my credit card not more than 3 times at the self service terminal. They tell me if swipe indoor can but I tried also declined at 2 different petrol stations.

I am using MBB Amex at Esso and I have more than 3 cars I need to pump petrol.

Anyone encounter this problem?
*
Ruling apply to transactions made on a single day. Unfortunately, generally all banks practice this as a safety system against petrol stations frauds.
I don't think the bank will be willing to make a special exception for you as this is a permanent safety feature which they imposed to all customers. Best way out is to use more than 1 cc.

@TheEvilMan

Not to get anyone agitated but I read your previous replies and your statement was rather confusing as well. Here's it is in full view - no change from the original post.

"it's replaced because eventually u still have to do replacement, which probably end of this month when HLBB totally took over, and all Eon Bank Account number will change from 13 digits to 11 too to fit their system. The credit card from HLBB is clearly a replacement because after it's activated the old card details and left over debt are all transferred over to the new system."

You have a rather aggressive reply to everyone here thus you invoked a aggressive response to your post as well. That's a fact. (Aggressive replies are my specialty ... ask anyone here and they'll agree) As mentioned, yours is rather a funny situation, so you need to check it out in depth with the bank. We are in no position to advise you with pinpoint precision as to do so ... we need to see your cc account statement over the last 3-6 months and any letters which supposed your card replacement. (I am not kaypoh but the B&W info is an indisputable evidence to help us) Otherwise there're probable gaps which we couldn't see thus will only offend you again if we can't help you with the correct solution.

Plenty of senior contributors here thus I believe they know what they are talking about.
There are also EON card holders in here as well and they are puzzled with what you are saying - they did mentioned no problem on their side which is likely (though it was answered in a no hold barred manner). Of course you have a problem and the answer did not help you.

If you were to contact BNM, they'll ask you for all the evidences that I mentioned because the evidence will speak for itself.
Again ... if you are not happy with my answer, you are free to criticize or report me. I did not solve your problem but hopefully my comments will help you find the right way/solution.

From the place to use Amex thread, someone mention cannot use Amex at Tung Shin. This gives me a running thought:

Assume a person, named X, has credit card (CC).
He has no other savings (unknown to hospital, right ?).
He has no other assets also.

One day, he is sick, he checks in to hospital, swipe 5k deposit. Do you need signature here ?  hmm.gif
The next day, X passed away.
Assume the hospital has already spend 3k expenses so far and invoice him.

No one signs the 3k invoice.

(1) How does the hospital claim the 3k ? Or use the 5k (with/without signature) ?  hmm.gif Or write-off ?

(2) When the bank knows the person passed away, will the bank still pay the merchant (hospital) ?

(3) Chase from parents/siblings/children ? I think this is not valid.

Any other comments for open discussion ?
*
It is quite simple actually ... trying a possible morale question but if you look from the legal point of view then there's no arguments about it.

1. RM5K deposit is actually pre approved expenditure and you need to sign. The same way how does hotel deposit works. Therefore the hospital maximum limit to claim from the bank is RM5k.
2. Depends on the hospital then ... if the hospital post the claims then the bank pays them. If not then bank does not pay in the first place. Remember the pre-approved expenditure happens when the cardholder is still alive and the hospital can anytime prove this beyond any doubt. Even if the cardholder's estate tries to challenge this in court ... all the hospital will do is to produce the death certificate which indicate the time and date of death + prove that expenditure occurs when the cardholder is still alive.
3. Bank have the right to claim any debt from the cardholder's estate. (Understand what that means) A person having cc would have at least EPF (hypothetical) and the bank will request for payment from EPF and it is legal. If really zero asset and zero everything else then bank can't do anything but the question is that does the surviving family members would want to allow the deceased cardholder with huge debt moving on? (It is not really "Rest in Peace")
