QUOTE(butthead @ May 8 2012, 02:59 PM) because cyclists are masochists in general... you gain satisfaction from suffering... (not in the sexual context from what i am implying) exactly, boleh comfy2 under the roof of a car, still ride in the sun and rain. Boleh enjoy the cool air with a motorbike, kayuh pelan2 sampai kaki rasa nak explode on the way to Genting Sempah. But If I ride, I will help the air be cleaner If I ride, I can wear spandex and not be ashamed If I ride, I will be stronger If I ride, I will go uphill but i will then go downhill Cilok from this youtube video It gives me so much inspiration If I ride by peopleforbikes This post has been edited by ahmeduk88: May 8 2012, 05:57 PM |

Hai guys its been a while since i posted any questions.
I've decided to buy the OMM rack for my commencal premier vb later. So i have now set my eyes into replacing the forks first. since my commute is hilly and the shocks absorb a lot of the force when climbing. Since my bike is an mtb, is there any good (possibly with disc mounts) and economical rigid forks for mtbs? i dont go on trails and mostly just commute so i dont think there is a need for me to have springy shocks. Thanks |

QUOTE(butthead @ Jun 5 2012, 10:44 PM) this would be good if you accept buying from ebay... taiwanese love these.. Owh MA GUARD!!!!http://www.ebay.com.my/sch/i.html?_nkw=mos...6.c0.m270.l1313 i think, i saw a couple of them being sold in BBS too.. but that was sometime ago... those forks looks very awesome!!!! and they are priced quite reasonably. thanks a million for sharing the info.. btw, just wanna start a discussion, so u guys like to cycle with a backpack or a messenger bag? what are the advantages of either bags? I'll start it off with I use a backpack. i carry a lot of stuff so a backpack serves me well. the downside of a backpack is that it is hard to get stuff out of it. |

size and steerer tube length has to be measured eyh? alright then. Thanks for the heads up...
by the way, bad news for us. No more cycling on PLUS highways Well, this is quite a shocker to us all. We try to use less petrol and then they impose restrictions like this. We need more cycling/motorbike lanes on highways and normal roads. Since we don't have any, we use the shoulder to cycle on. We are given restrictions without alternative ways for us to continue our means of transport. And its especially sad for me to know this since I use the PLUS highway from Bukit Raja through Setia Alam to head to reach Puncak Alam every week for balik kampung. Why cant we be like Holland?? |

QUOTE(butthead @ Jun 6 2012, 11:40 AM) it's understandable... they just don't want legal actions against them... motorbike lanes don't really solve the problem in the first place as we will most certainly be impeding the motorbikes in their rightful lanes... and there is also chances that motorbikes can still crash into cyclists... Its quite scary really. But somehow, there is no political will to encourage cycling as a form of transport. And culturally, there is this perception that cycling in Malaysia is hot, hard and unpractical. I may be like a lone warrior on this for i don't have a car and the bicycle and public transport is my main form of transportation. But considering the distances that most people commute to (by car, train, bus etc), in conclusion, it may seem that we will never have enough cyclist fighting for cycling rights on malaysian roads. isn't it? unless comes a day where people use bicycles as a mode of transport rather than a hobby / sport.. then there will be a chance to fight for it... till then, i am skeptical about it even though i am a fellow cyclist... QUOTE(malleus @ Jun 6 2012, 11:43 AM) I've not yet used a bag when cycling (apart from my hydration pack, but that's kinda different), but my experience with messenger bags are as follows: A real messenger like timbuk2 or chrome? is that the reason messengers wear the bag on a tighter sling? like this? Used to be a huge backpack fan, till I kinda got introduced to a proper messenger bag. Had thought all these times that a message bag is just another sling bag, but its not. On a normal day, the amount of stuff that I carry weights about 6kg or so (laptop, iPad, camera, chargers, and various other junk). A backpack may place the weight evenly on your shoulders, but the weight is mainly handled by your shoulders only. And you'll tend to slouch forwards to keep yourself from toppling over backwards if you're carrying a heavy weight. And it does put quite a strain on your middle back too. While for a messenger bag, even though the sling is across one shoulder only, the weight distribution is more towards your entire body as a while. I don't find much difference between the strain on your shoulders for a backpack or a messenger bag. Less slouching as compared to a backpack cause of the weight distribution. And there's less strain on your middle back. To give a better example, my GF who's a skinny 42kg girl finds that there's less back strain while carrying the same weight on a messenger bag compared to a backpack. ![]() |

Well, Banananana, bike shops sometime let you test ride the bike ur gonna buy. Why don't u try and see how it rides and folds and see how it will suit you. Folding bikes win where you can store the bike under your bed and probably the smaller ones will be compact enough for you to bring onto the train.
Why to ride a folding bike: 1-practical storing 2-some looks awesome like the doppelganger 700c 3-i see foldies riders have a much straighter riding posture. so comfort win there. 4-YOU CAN OWN AND AFFORDABLE FERRARI! Why NOT ro ride a folding bike: 1-have to maintain the hinges 2-the ones with smaller tyres have less acceleration and velocity at the same wheel rpm but then again, why not ride a folding bike?? |

Sorry for the late reply on bike locking,
Well, my first beater that got stolen was a careless mistake by me when i only locked the wheel to the frame and not a tiang. Got stolen in like 15 minutes under my flat. Naik kejap and then turun balik and then the bike is gone. Now my bike, mountain bike, black and not that many decals and i leave it in front of shopping malls, banks, my faculty, restaurants, all tied to a tiang. Make sure that you use a good lock. I use a large chain and its long enough that i wear it like a belt during my rides. I dont reccomend locking with cable locks cuz its very easy to cut. I cut my old cable locks when the key broke and it only took me 5 minutes using a saw. Do not leave like lights, blinkers, bottles or anything on the bike. Preferably, lock it tightly so that its not that easy to yank and move the bike. if you can, dont have QR. I wonder if kryptonite U-locks are as tough as they say they are. |

So you're gonna commute to work too?? Good for ya!!!!!!
Crosstown or crossroad? i think its NOT a dealbreaker. looks solid and cool. But honestly i will say go for the navigator if you can go for it. Comes with a rack and fenders and since you're commuting, its very very handy to have a rack. Fenders (other than looking uber cool) also makes riding more comfortable. You dont wanna drink road juice after it rains. And get a lock This post has been edited by ahmeduk88: Jun 8 2012, 10:12 PM |

Hai, just how many of you guys cycle in jeans? And if you do, how do you prevent crotch blowouts?
There is also this myth that leather seats are gentler to pants. Is this true? There is also another myth saying jeans with a lil bit of lycra lasts longer. Is there any truth to this? |

Well, i certainly dont ride a fixie but i do ride in jeans everyday.
Jeans with lycra are those jeans that have stretch in them. I dunno how well they last on the saddle but they do stretch and cuz possibly lessen wear and tear. the lycra is woven in between the cotton in the denim. example of a crotch blowout ![]() |

QUOTE(noprob @ Jun 16 2012, 09:41 PM) can get oscar brand with the budget .. I used to ride a V-braked GTA that only cost RM500. Served me for 1.5years well until i rode a commencal MTB. its okay for commuting. but after that things start failing and needs constant maintenance. sigh... changed a lot on it.like this one -- http://www.mudah.my/Oscar+Flex+Power+21spd...no-15891061.htm |
