Just to share some information:
Salt lamps are usually mined from 2 places in the world: 1) Europe (Poland) 2) From the Himilayas (usually Pakistan) Salt lamps from Poland are normally very expensive. Usual ones here are normally from the Himalayas which are much cheaper compared to the ones from Poland. Most prob. the transportation cost and labour cost. Any one having a salt lamp from Poland? Any difference compared to the Himilayas? The ones I have are all from Himalayas. |

QUOTE(dandan @ Nov 30 2005, 11:40 AM) Sure, its made out salt They are natural salts which are very expensive. The normal salts we consume are from the sea. These are from the caves created by nature. Some say its better than consuming sea salt. How true issit? I have no idea |

Why do you guys use salt lamps. I bought mine because I was told that they generate negative ions, I have use a ioniser for years because my bedroom is stuffy when it is airconed. I use my salt lamp now and it works just as well as the ioniser without the noise. I think mine is from Pakistan.
What is the difference with the ones from Poland? Is it expensive because it gives out more ions or because it looks nicer? |

QUOTE(Silencers @ Dec 6 2005, 11:28 AM) They're used mostly as decorations. Other than that, it supposely generates negative ions to refreshen up your room like the posts above. For me, its a subtle gentle light deco in the room, really nice. This one is in my room, its a teacup holder salt lamp. Really expensive last time. Over rm150 i think, should be from Poland. ![]() This one is a 7kg Salt Lamp from Pakistan. Bought at Summit with a little less than rm50 iinm. ![]() |

Must we turn it on 24 hours per day or use it necessarily ? hihi thanks ~ Its good because it acts as a natural air ionizer. It release negative ions just like electronic ionizer just that the amount is lesser.Salt lamp need not be on (with the ligh bulb on 24 hours) to be effective. It will be effective with or without the light. The main purpose of the light is the heat released to dry up the moisture or to prevent moisture from reacting with the salt. Due to the humid conditions in Malaysia, salt (sodium cloride) absorbs lots of water just like the the "thirsty hippo" or dehumidifier (calcium cloride). Therefore if there is no heat present the surrounding areas will be full of salt water. I forgot to on my salt lamp and went off a few days and my living room is fool of salt water. It will cause electrocution too. To reduce the amount of salt water, the room must be well ventilated and on the lamp at intervals. Putting salt lamp in air-cond rooms will also reduce the water but make sure the air-cond is on for a long hours. Therefore it is always wise to wrap up the salt lamp with plastic bags if you do not intend to on the lamp for a long time. One more piece of info: the edible salt we take is sadium cloride natural salt rock consist mostly of sodium cloride. The higher the purity the better and the more expensive. A good piece of information provide by a friend of mine Michael of BaoCabin.
QUOTE The common perception in Crystal Salt Lamp market is that Poland Crystal Salt Lamp is the best salt lamp while the Himalaya or Pakistan Salt Lamps are of the cheaper and lower quality. Therefore Poland Salt Lamps are more expensive because they are "real" while Pakistan Salt Lamps are "fake". Very often I see crystal salt lamps sellers claiming their rocks as Poland Salt Lamps hoping to sell the at higher price. While the above perception is NOT wrong but not entirely correct neither. It is NOT wrong because of the basic principal of "You do GET what you PAY for". It is NOT correct because of the ambiguity in the definition of quality. There are 2 "main" crystal salt deposit in the world, one in Appalachian range and another in Himalaya range. There are a number of welknown "mines" in each area as well. Some facts come with that are : Himalaya has the largest deposit Himalaya deposit is in general much older than Appalachian's. However, Poland's mine is much older than Himalaya's. In simpler term, there are more and older crystal salt deposit in Himalaya but the Poland folks started digging first. Pakistan digs much later. The use of Crystal Salt is also first found in the East. Pakistanists have been eating the salt for centuries. But the West first turn Crystal Salt into a health and decorative device. This comes to no surprise actually. The West lives life fully and enjoy every moment of it; the East struggles to live day by day. When the West first carve the Crystal Salt Lamp, they were carving it like a piece of Art. Their carving skill improves over the years and deteriot a little bit when the business volume grows. Nevertheless the culture of beauty pursuing remains. A labour worker in Poland would carve a lamp and said, "I think this piece is not so nice, let me throw this away and try again". The cost of ONE Crystal Salt lamp goes mostly to the rock selection process (35%) and also the labour rate(55-60%). So EVERY single piece of salt lamp on the shelf is symmetrical, carved according to the natural stripes and cracks of the rock. Actually if you are looking at a Poland Salt Lamp from 3 feet away, you cann't see its carving at all ! It looks as natural as the un-crafted natural salt lamps. Only when you touch it and rub around it then you can feel the ultimate fine carfting, magically done to perserve the natural look while increasing the surface area. When the East prepares the salt lamp, they are doing it for a living. They don't have rock selection process. At most the owner of the factory will come down to the factory and pick the rocks himself once in a while for a special friends of his. At the moment the owner goes back to this office, the workers continue as they were, thinking their boss has gone mad. You cann't blame them because to them, these are just Salt that they have been eating for centuries. Why in the world would people put it in a living room ... This may sound common to some but indeed the mindset of the workers turns out to be the biggest contributing factor to today's perception of Crystal Salt Lamp quality. Now back to the "quality" of cyrstal salt. Most of the crystal salt deposit in Poland mine is actually non-edible. That is also why they are the ones who started using the rocks in decorative way. In Himalaya deposit on the other hand, due to its huge deposit, the varieties are more too. There are a lot of area where the quality is also non-edible and lower quality than Poland's mine. However, there are also areas where the quality is so much better than Poland's. After all, Pakistan first use of the crystal salt is for eating purpose (even without the refining process !!). Poland actually started importing crystal salt from Pakistan, craft them and re-exporting them out. Today, the top class of Crystal Salt is made into Sole. Edible sodium supplement for long term and large quantity consumption. This was first discovered in USA using Himalaya Crystal Salt due to their easy access to varies research lab facility. Europe comes later and started importing Crystal Salt from Pakistan too. So in short: Poland has the oldest mine in the world Himalaya crystal salt deposit is the oldest Himalaya produces the cleanest crystal salt Poland's crafting skill is not found anywhere else in the world So should you buy Poland or Himalaya lamps ? Unfortunately that question could be misleading in today's market. I have not seen a truly Poland crafted Salt Lamp for sale yet. The only Poland lamps I came acroos are at someone's house who have bought them many years back. There is only one company importing from Poland in large quantity and that was many years ago. Their certificate of origin is also dated many years back. However, through out the past experience, they have learned how to mimid the carfting skill. Even though not as good as Poland's craft but at least they are aware of the difference. The cost of importing a Poland Salt Lamp is about 4x-7x more expensive considering that the rocks was transfered from Pakistan to Poland, gone through the special workmanship and re-exported from a much further distance. If you are buying a salt lamp for the beauty of it or as a feng shui enhancer, you don't need to bother all this as beauty is really a personal thing. But if you are very health concious and willing to pursue the ultimate beauty of Natures, then a Poland Salt Lamp may be worth getting. When buying one, insist to see the "certificate of origin". Or you may contact Champer of Poland directly and get a sample order. The worst thing to pursue an ultimate piece of Poland Salt Lamp turns out to be just another replica or even worst just another 96% Himalaya Salt Lamp due to the ignorance of the seller's claim. |

I saw the dacumentary on salt lamp mining before .. I kind of sunch a deep place before you can get those salt crystals ...
The salt cristal like "tersepit" between layers of hard rock ... wah , not easy also , because they need to take it out one big plane by plane , if not carefull , break to pieces ... Ah , try before ... those salt lamp is diffrent than normal salt ... Haha , try to make one salt lamp before using Home salt ... ends out to be a very britle salt lamp ( once push too hard , all break to white salt )..... Natural Slat Lamp are harder ... One thime try with Sugar Lamp using rock sugar ... ends up in Burning smell because i put too strong the Light .. haha , those from Lighting Halogen 50W ... Haha |

e14 bulb in malaysia comes in 2 type of life span, one lasts 1000 hours, the other 2000 hours. However, if you leave the bulb on without any movement or vibration, it can go up to 1 year. But once it goes over its life span, even though its still on, a tiny vibration or switch off/on will burn it straight away ...

QUOTE(kiddc @ Sep 3 2007, 10:24 AM) i looked up your recently participated threads coz you posted on my threads. A little sleuthing on my side, but if it wasnt for you, i wouldnt have found this thread. today there are no such thing as Poland salt lamps coz almost All salt lamps in Poland are imported from Himalaya's. the salt deposit in poland mine is not clean enough to make good salt lamp and also expensive to mine them in Poland.Anyways, which salt lamps are the best? From which country? Poland? salt lamps can provide 3 main functions 1) air cleaner thru ionization 2) color therapy ( calm feeling etc ) and 3) feng shui. the power of air cleaning is purely the NaCl. So the higher purity a salt lamp is, the better it is. For color therapy it is a bit complicated because each and every person is different and a patient needs to be profiled first before a remedy can be proposed. Add to that, each and every single piece of salt lamp is natural and unique by itself too. Hence, each salt lamp can bring different effect to each person in color therapy. However, in simple terms, you can put a salt lamp near you and experience for yourself if that makes you feel better or not. try with different salt lamp until u 'feel' the one best for you .... is the practical methods in layman terms ... feng shui is hard to recommend, because diff feng shui sifus use diff pratice. its best to consult your own feng shui sifu u trusted. If none, then just do some simple bazi analysis. salt lamp is a fire and earth element. Earth because its crystal and its from earth - same like calcite crystal. Fire is because its used as a lamp. so no answer for which country's salt lamp is best. Its a matter of which salt lamp is best for you only. :-) |
