Uncle benny, after reading thru the Rocket 1.5 thread, I'm now ready to take the plunge, but I want to do it right the first time, so I just have one question as it was not stated in the OP :

I'm on stock ROM LA4, CF rooted + CWM, can I flash to rocket 1.4 directly without going thru the chinese repack?

only bug is call received still display number only
unable to change lockscreen wallpaper minor issue

vast improve over chinese leak
s pen fully function
with nova launcher extremely smooth ui
operating temperatures cooler by 3 to 5 degree c vs gb la6 buikd
so better battery usage

Even with 3rd party dialer ExDialer, Touc.PAL will still display number only?

I never tried the 3rd party dialer as default dialer is working ok. I don't see how a 3rd party dialer will affect the display name as the call coming in will be shown on default dialer screen. You use 3rd party dialer only to call ; I could be wrong.

Yes it is recommended to flash the rocket rom ontop of the Chinese leak first. After you have successfully boot it, than only flash the rocket 1.4 with full wipe ( cache, dalvik, data )  . Important before you flash 1.4 make sure you change your kernel to at least abyss ver 3.9. After successful reboot , than only flash ver 1.5 with just wipe caches will do

These are the steps :
1. Flash chinese ROM using MobileOdin (tar file)
2. Wait for successful bootup of Chinese rom.
3. Off phone, boot into recovery mode
4. Flash abyss kernel 3.9 or 4.0 and above
5. Do not reboot after flash
6. Proceed to flash 1.4 rocket - don't reboot
6. Now proceed to wipe cache, dalvik and wipe data
7. Now select restart
8. Setup your google account
9. Switch off, reboot to recovery
10. Clear all cache no need clear data
11. Flash rocket v 1.5

Flashing the abyss kernel mainly to ensure you have full root enabled and also to ensure modem is successfully flash in ver 1.4

If you read the XDA thread , many users has problem falshing as they do not even read the instrucctions at the first post. Modem stuck half way during flash, flash directly without going thro the chinese rom, root lost completely or root only partially . i see the same questions being asked and repeated several times a day
The important thing is dont take shortcut
*
eyebee stated not to flash abyss, could it be your dialer problem stem from there?

No ; you misunderstood
The dialer issue is only calls received does not show caller name - it affects all users and all leaked versions of ICS
you MUST flash abyss kernel or you will not get full root and modem flash will stuck halfway

there will never be a full stable version until the official ones are released. But I must say in just a week the progress in reducing and eliminating the bugs is impressive
After testing the ICS, and going back to GB and than jumping back to ICS, with present ICS status I will stick and continue with it as there is now already a I'd say a 99 % stable version. Having experienced the extreme smoothness of the UI and more responsive performance, hard for me to go back to GB roms now
So far did not faced any SOD issues on the rocket v1.5 unlike earlier ICS roms
*
ok, i think i agree with you no shortcut.. I will flash with cf chinese repack then proceed with the steps...

thanks.

I downloaded it from here it's about 500+MB http://www.mavendo.de/2012/02/21/ics-4-0-3...ainfire-repack/

It's zipped so I guess both is correct?

thanks Benny. When u say rocket ICS is best, in terms of? less sod, smoothness, etc?

Added on February 25, 2012, 1:47 pm uncle..actually no wor. I am using midnote ICS now and no problem with caller id and name showing.
*
read thru the whole rocket ics thread, all is saying 1.5 is the best... but the installation is a hassle, total download is 500+ (chainfire repack) + 300+ (1.4) + 300+ (1.5) = 1.1GB!!

finally am done reading and downloaded all the files I needed for flashing to ICS and for restoring to GB if need to...

Going to flash it tonight, last few questions, do I have to wipe all (factory reset) on my current cf rooted LA4 ROM?

And if I need to do that, will it lose root after factory reset my current stock LA4 ROM?

Do i also have to remove my external SD card and sim card as well when flashing?

If everything goes well, will report back...

Must wipe data
You will not lose root with factory reset - just follow my steps completely to have complete root thereafter
No need to remove both cards
Make sure phone at least 50% charge before flash

Nope ; never faced in stock and all the cook GB rom
Noticed it occurs randomly on only ICS rom and that is on boat, xscope browser only - I take this as a software glitch

Just to update successfully installed ICS based on uncle benny instruction, xda note development and general forum. Been using it for half a day today, so far no SOD, I have only installed whatapps... will test it slowly. Want to check the battery draining without the 15 toggles first.. before I installed it...

Very smooth rom... browsing is lighting fast man!!!

I suggest stay from from the 15 toggle - seems a lot of issues. Anyway I never like such toggles since the days of Rocketrom - always disabled it

I found some widget which is not working, is tat right?

- Email, digital clock, power savings

It stated no more room for this widget, why? because of the row and column setting?
*
Correct.. if u see the widget under menu screen, it is 6x2.. so you have to set the column to be 6 in Nova launcher.... i think they cook the rom in tablet format and forgot about the widget... anyway those can use 3rd party apps...

Ok guys, just want to share with you the process of flashing Rocket Rom v1.5 ICS on our beloved Note. All these is based on my reading and due diligence and also the help of uncle Benny, many thanks! There is one difference for the steps from Benny, I did not use Abyss as the rocket team does not recommend it, as you may lose root I think...

My configuration prior to flashing :

Stock LA4 ROM, CF rooted + CWM

You need the below files :

1. CF ICS chinese repack
2. Rocket rom v1.4
3. Rocket rom v1.5
4. mobile odin

To flash ICS :

1. You can be on any GB rom, just make sure you are rooted
2. Before you start, backup your phone then boot to recovery, wipe cache, dalvik and data then Reboot the phone
3. Install mobile odin, if you have not buy it, you need the lite version
4. Flash the CF ICS chinese repack
5. After flashing, phone will automatically boot to recovery
6. Again wipe cache, dalvik and data (no reboot)
7. Now flash rocket rom v1.4
8. Again wipe cache, dalvik and data
9. Reboot the phone when all is wiped
10. Takes abuot 5- 10 minutes for the phone to boot first time, after bootup set up google account
11. When done, power off phone and boot to recovery
12. Now, ONLY wipe cache and dalvik, DO NOT WIPE DATA
13. Flash rocket rom v1.5
14. Once done reboot the phone
15. First boot up you will see "Android is upgrading.. Optimizing xx of 148 apps"
16. Play with the phone for 5-10 minutes, likely you will encountered some random vibrate... just reboot the phone 2nd time, all will be well
17. That's it you are done, celebrate the success wink.gif

I'm on the ROM for 13 hours already, 6 hours on sleep, 4 hours heavy usage. and so far not a single SOD. I only installed Whatapps, EXDialer and a few network games for now... slowly testing the phone.... it's smooth as hell, no way to go back to GB now... homescreen, Nova launcher, no lags whatsoever... will try ADW later as that is my prefer launcher... and the face unlock is cool... hahaha... but gimmicky ler...

Hope the above helps, for newbie it may be too much but you have to have the patience and read and read and read... can ask here as well and I'm sure the guys can help you...

It gives more real estate to the Note.. which means the font are smaller, icon smaller thus more space for your Note.

ICS browser sync automatically with chrome bookmarks. You first need to associate your chrome bookmarks to your gmail account

Which kernel version you are on? Anything below KL7 can be rooted easily... you need to root to install ICS.

All about rooting here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

I din even know you can do that... hahaha... tested confirm that bug still there...

It's a small problem, you would want to click the other person photo, why would you click your own photo? Do you keep a contact of yourself in Contacts? I don't wink.gif That's the problem I think, try create a contact with your own number.. probably it will not FC anymore... and for the record, clicking the other person photo works...
