This is not a kopitiam question so please dont move it. Its about reasoning. Do you enjoy sitting on your couch all day doing nothing or enjoying things you love for the rest of your life, getting weak and useless at the same time or face stress from your job daily and forced to commit to things that you hate while enjoying that feeling of getting your months pay after all of that trouble it caused you.

Or would you like to take both?

I would drop most of the things I do at my job now, to focus on a few interesting ones.

Oh, and I would hire an endless number of assistants to help me do things more easily.

Although it sounded like one, but I view your point has merits from the Meta-Reasoning perspective. As a general rule, people move either away from or towards things under normal circumstances. And consistent with Sigmund Freud's Pleasure Principle in The Ego and the Id (1923), your id, which represents your instinctive urges, moves you towards pleasure or away from pain.

And the more you read about true philosophical posts in PhD School, the more you will discover that Philosophical Questions tend to deal with dilemmas, grey areas, and unanswerable questions in the Examined Life and Universe, etc.

Therefore, this is probably the best response most people can give in the light of the facts as we understand them at the moment. People might be inclined to take a different view if new conditions or facts were to emerge that affected the position. Perhaps you could give us some more info (i.e. special conditions that would drive a person towards pain to a certain extent in order to gain pleasure) on that situation?

This maybe hard-hitting, but it is in fact very important to help you examine the ideas behind your post of The Mind/Body Problem.

I'll channel that money to set up a new company, doing something I am interested.

Or take a low-level and stress-free job.

My life would have no purpose if I just sit around and do nothing. I might as well be a breathing corpse.

From "if" perspective, of course yes. But I can't predict how I'm going to think and act when it REALLY happen to me.

When I have the money... I'm going to use the money to save my time because that what money for.

Hi, I stayed at home for a year after my graduation in college.at first it feels good being such a couch potato. My siblings are giving me money even I am just at home, and I it feels like I am so unproductive as if I have no purpose in life and I felt worthless.so my answer is no.Now I am working as a nurse.yey

I believe you'd tell a different story if your siblings give you millions.

I hate working. So for sure I will stop working.

But I like studying and researching. I don't mind studying for the rest of my life even if I had a gazillion dollars in my pocket.

I will take the money and take up an additional degree. Probably an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts.

Or maybe I will do some costly self-indulgent academic research. tongue.gif

Okay, I will try to answer this even though I'm still a student.

Let's say I enjoy my work very much, I may not quit my job even I have endless supply of money. Example, i love badminton, my job is to play badminton for our country. I will definitely play until my body says no.

But if I don't enjoy my works at all, I will just start backpacking and travel around the world. That's one of my dream!

I'm now stuck in my room and study for the examination! Other than that, I find I enjoy reading very much

Enjoy things you love for the rest of your life and get paid while you are enjoying it!!!

Why force yourself to commit to things you hate? If you hate something, there's already something very wrong and something's gotta give. So this isn't a clear cut answer from me, I am from Humanities background, hence I don't give technical or black/white answers. nod.gif

The need for money(that's why people have to work) forces one to be productive/useful to others.
Like it or not, that's the way it is once a person is born. It is part of being in a social group. If a person is in the jungle alone, like it or not, you will have to hunt your own food day in and day out. It that person happens to like hunting, then he is lucky because he will be doing something he loves everyday and yet be able to satisfy his daily needs. If he dislike hunting, then too bad for him...either he does it or he starve and die.

But we as modern humans, being in an integrated environment, have more choices than just hunting. But the hard facts of life should tell us that whatever we do for most of our time, wheather we have passion for it or not, it should somehow bring us monetary return. Otherwise it would mean whatever you're doing, it is not useful enough for other people to pay for it. We would call those a hobby or pasttime.

yes, i would certainly quit my job. but i won't just sit around. the priority of my life will change. so far, earning is the major priority, since there will be endless supply, i can stop focusing on earning and enjoying living by doing what i enjoy the most such as setting up free counselling centre, home for women etc.

This interesting question reminds me of the recent article that i read through newspaper which a man is granted a certain amount of money (5000 dollar) every week/ month for his whole life... that sure an unforgettable life .... if this kind of miracle happen to me, i will quit my job but continue pursuing my study and enjoy the life..

i don't think i will ever wander around jobless even i have unlimited supply of money. sitting around doing nothing with no aim in my life is simply devastating. :S

i would quit my job if it was boring or is considered as suffering for me. i will probably take the money to invest on something else thou, starting business on my own probably. or maybe further my studies and get a better job.
