This dude is the man! United fan sells land to block City expansion QUOTE A Manchester United fan aims to block rival Manchester City's "goals of football domination" by selling off thousands of parcels of a site earmarked by the world's richest club for a 100-million-pound training complex.
Businessman Shaun O'Brien has divided the land at his vehicle recovery company, OB Trucks, near City's Etihad Stadium, into 18,500 square-foot plots for sale in a bid to disrupt a proposed council order to make him sell it.
He was selling the plots for 250 pounds each through website, Unite Against the City, to "ardent Reds and anybody else that feels strongly about our David & Goliath situation," in order to make the club negotiate individually and fairly for each plot, the website said.
The sale had attracted buyers from around the world, including the United States and Spain, since the website went live on February 6, O'Brien told Reuters, declining to reveal the sales figures. "We're very close to fulfilling the 5,000 minimum."
The campaign was "to prevent Manchester City's attempts to acquire our land in Eastlands, Manchester, in order to further their goals of football domination," O'Brien wrote on the website.
Local newspaper Manchester Evening News said O'Brien had refused a one-million-pound offer from City to leave the site, stalling the club's bid to redevelop a run-down, 80-acre plot near their stadium.
O'Brien said City had offered him 200,000 pounds for the land for the past two years, though they had said they would pay another 750,000 pounds for moving and expenses.
"But it's just not enough," he said. "I've been here for 15 years, I had no intention to sell [the land]... as a business who want my land to further their business they should come and sit down, negotiate and we'll hack out a figure, whereas all along they've said we'll give you 200,000 pounds or we'll get the council to CPO you," he said.
A compulsory purchase order has now been issued by Manchester City Council and the club to try to force O'Brien to sell at market value.
Manchester City hold the title of the world's richest club, gained after they were bought by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi three years ago This post has been edited by roti-terbakar: Feb 14 2012, 09:29 PM

QUOTE(dundermifflin @ Feb 14 2012, 08:07 AM) nah.. of course Evra thought about that (snubbing Suarez hand).. he hate him, thats not a secret. but in the end, Evra offerred his hand reluctantly (or not), and Suarez didnt. its PR disaster for Liverpool (reputation, sponsorship, etc). bad and selfish move from Suarez. TBH, me myself not fan of Evra after these incidents and before that (debacle of France team in the last World Cup).. he's considered a veteran and acting captain in United team, i expect more maturity, better example and leadership from him.. he should act more cooler at the final whistle.. but his funny impressions always make me smile.. having said that, Suarez also not an angel. he was a trouble maker in Ajax (he bit an opponent FFS, called 'Cannibal of Ajax'), public enemy to African in the last World Cup (the handball incident), love to dive etc. u have to admire Liverpool fans for defending Suarez until the end, no matter what. the theory of "Evra snubbed Suarez's handshake, not the other way" and that still picture as a 'prove'.. LOL.. they live up "You'll Never Walk Alone", good for them.. what is FFS?

"The CPO was issued the day before Christmas Eve – reducing the number of days we had in order to put in an objection. We have experienced hate mail, threats, abusive phone calls, visits from ‘well wishers’ all aimed at pressuring us into accepting their offer. Is this the way the world ‘s richest football club goes about getting what it wants? city is just dumb for not offering more to acquire that land. If they are more polite towards the owner, they would have got it. Now city will have to purchase it from the new owner. Serve them right.

Nice stats Carrick, but stats are only stats. The influence in the game is another story. You can end up at the back doing 200 passes with the back line and have 100% stats. Almost everytime when Carrick partners Scholes, man of the match honors goes to the later. Problem is he doesn't do anything spectacular for me. At the same time he doesn't do much wrong with it as well, so probably that's why he doesn't get the heat often.
That all has changed now. The villain who famously concede valuable possession and unfortunately the ball ends up back in the net as well. The 08/09 CL final defeat to Barca. The 09/10 CL versus B.munich, both goals his creation of mistake. Carrick makes Gerard look super good I must say. When he loses the ball, in the big games those teams really make you pay. Carrick plays the ball backwards and slows the play down. With exciting players coming down the ranks, he seems out of place.
He does have his moments. Like the Roma demolition. I just think his price tag is not justified. At all. He is decent and is playing well atm. Can't wait for the Ajax game.

Carrick's form has gone up and down, but this season, it has been above average, and what he brings to the team, is invaluable. And trust me, he will be there for a long time, and I can see SAF like him a lot too..

Carrick definitely will be legend for us if he can duplicate his form these days in another 2 or 3 seasons. if u ask me the player i hope not getting any injury ATM, i will name Carrick. the next probably DDG and Rooney.. the player capable to fill Carrick's role ATM is Jones. and he's injured too.. he's not spectacular. but essential to the team..

I just feel he is overpriced and you don't need me to point out why he is left out of the squad nowdays and not really in the England frame. Simple, there are just better and exciting players who can do what he does. The only reason he is partnering Scholes now is due to heavy injury list. He is no doubt behind,Scholes,Giggs,Park,Ando,Cleverly,Fletcher in SAF's choice this season. He is playing well atm, like I said and hope he uses this chance to reinsert himself as an important part of the squad.

To be needed as The Sand's Kazekage
|
I think, first and foremost, is that people need to realise and understand that football is not all about blockbuster tackles, dribbling past 10 players, 40 goals a season and wonder goals every game. And on a side note, Carrick has been the first choice midfielder the past 5 years, 1 CL and 4 BPL titles.

Same as Scholes. But if you ask me I'll say No. Their roles are different Park? No. He's kinda situational and maybe depends on form / teams Ando? No Cleverley? Too little time to prove he's better. Carrick was injured early in the season so you can't say either Cleverley or Carrick is the better choice Fletcher? Look at Park
