like voivod said, most team that came to OT tend to be defensive, meaning United will have more time to be at their opponent's penalty area/box compared to them, so naturally United will get more opportunity at set pieces AT the attacking half as well, stats can't show all of this tbh

I think this is not the case. i think the issue now is why is it so hard to get a penalty based on incident at OT. Your point of opponent spending less time in penalty box at OT is abit irrelevant.

Not to say I am having problem with this though laugh.gif

Actually, it is relevant. How are you going to get a penalty for yourself, when you spend all your time in your own penalty box?

Edit: In addition, if you want to look at difficulty in getting "penalties against", then you should look at a different ratio. Not "penalties against" per game. You should be looking at "penalties against" per incident.
Edit: That Gary Neville stat is very interesting. The fact that united attack so much and get so little "penalties for" is an interesting one.

The view that United get more favorable decisions at OT is a myth.

No, you're missing my point here. Yes, I do agree the ratio of getting penalty is more if you spent more time in the penalty box. No dispute.
But I think what ppl have been arguing is why is it so hard to get a penalty based on incident at OT. It's like when one of our players tackled the opponent in the box not getting the ball but referee says play on. Example only.

Spending more time in the box proportion = more penalty while maybe true, it's not the issue being thrown out i think.

Well to be honest there is a certain times that I feel we're given the advantage several times b4. Like Murphy recently, and also last season 1-0 win against Everton (Yakubu?).

But still, other teams got their fair share as well IMO. And I think SAF's reputation somehow gives us a little bit of advantage - well 25 years on the club, I think it might influenced that a little bit.

I don't think we got more advantage, since the whole picture stated otherwise as mentioned above. It is just that we got more spotlight from the media, since we are afterall the 2nd bestest team in EPL biggrin.gif

Ferdinand fit for Ewood Park

Sir Alex has revealed Rio Ferdinand is fit to start Monday night's crucial clash at Blackburn.

The centre-back was substituted towards the end of the 1-0 win over Fulham but it was only a precaution and he has had no after-effects to the back problem that troubles him from time to time. With Nani still not fit enough to return, the travelling party is likely to be unchanged from the one that saw off the Cottagers.

"It'll be the same squad as Monday night with no changes," stated the boss. "We expect Nani to train tomorrow but the game will come too soon for him. Rio is okay, he just felt a bit stiff. We know the situation with that. We addressed it right away and put Chris Smalling on. He's fine."

Sir Alex knows to expect a real battle at Ewood Park, which hasn't been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Reds over the years.

"The game at Blackburn is always a difficult type of game," he added. "It has a local derby feeling about it and is always a bit feisty. Last season, we came back from a goal down to win the league but we expect a difficult game. That's the way all the matches will be but hopefully we can navigate them."

Lindegaard takes a break

Anders Lindegaard is likely to be available for Manchester United before the end of the season, despite taking an enforced rest from his recovery process.

Some reports claimed the Danish goalkeeper would miss the remainder of the run-in with an ankle injury but Sir Alex is hopeful that Lindegaard will soon be able to resume his battle with David De Gea for a starting spot.

"Anders was training very well," stated the boss on Friday. "And maybe he overdid it.

"We've given him a week off, a rest period for a week, and he should be back before the end of the season."

QUOTE
Fergie - Luck evens itself out

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson insists lucky breaks even themselves out over the course of a season.

Manchester City's football development executive Patrick Vieira suggested that United, along with most major clubs in Spain and Italy, benefited from favourable decisions on home soil - although the Frenchman later claimed his comments were taken out of context.

The argument has been reignited following referee Michael Oliver's failure to award Fulham a last-minute penalty at Old Trafford on Monday for Michael Carrick's clumsy challenge on Danny Murphy.

Ferguson accepts the Red Devils were lucky with that one as they went on to win 1-0 and open up a three-point lead over City at the top of the table.

However, he can cite plenty of other instances where his team were wronged and feels the decisions even themselves out over the campaign.

"From the referee's position, I can see why he didn't give a penalty when Danny Murphy was brought down," said Ferguson.

"The ball moved to the angle as Michael Carrick challenged him. From that position, it wasn't clear.

"It was a good claim but City could have had a penalty against them at Stoke for a foul by Gareth Barry.

"Every club gets breaks here and there, you get good ones and bad ones.

"It evens itself out over the season, that will never change."

Ferguson used United's home game against Newcastle in November as an example of a major decision affecting his team, when Rio Ferdinand conceded a penalty for a perfectly fair challenge on Hatem Ben Arfa.

He also has not forgotten how Mario Balotelli escaped a red card for stamping on Scott Parker during Manchester City's win over Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium in January, then scored the match-winning penalty in injury-time.

"We had a terrible decision earlier this season when Newcastle got a penalty and Tottenham could claim the same when Mario Balotelli wasn't sent off and ended up scoring the winning goal," added Ferguson.

"You could go through millions of things like that.

"Maybe smaller clubs feel that (decisions go against them when they play big clubs) but someone said some years ago that we get lots of penalties. It is only averaging out at three a year.

"You can't say that is a lot when you are attacking teams all the time.

"Most managers believe the breaks even themselves out."

well its not easy to re-reschedule especially when the timing is so tight, take it as a consequence/lesson of our fail European campaign and never slip up again (if can) in the future smile.gif
