for the email setting, i am getting it quite often earlier, and still get it occasionally now. Are you leaving in place that is poor in coverage, or go to places with no coverage? To me i found the problem is due to poor coverage.

try other people sim card see can or not.
Could be the 3G antenna is broken. it doesn't share the same antenna as gsm.

not really, 3g is the one that suck battery. set to 2g only unless you are using internet then switch to 3g.
I tried and found that 2g saved 50% battery than 3g.
