Now testing the private seedbox...... am I the first one to login? laugh.gif

12:45pm ; so far, still running fine.

Suggestion, since RAM is upgraded to 1Gb, I would recommend other private seedbox users to modify something in rutorrent settings:
Look for these settings;
network.receive_buffer.size=
network.send_buffer.size=
Enter the value 4096 or 8192. This function is very important to reduce disc seeking issue and prolong the life of HDD

Is it possible to add this logoff feature? http://code.google.com/p/rutorrent/wiki/PluginLogoff

Notice the hash checking option too. Tweak it properly.

The next performance tuning is reducing the number of connected peers/seeds. Reasons being that the seedbox CPU and available RAM is not that powerful enough to handle many connections. Dont worry about the reduced numbers of peer, after all the server is running on 1Gbit line. It wont reduce the torrent downloading speed of seedbox server.

You can find it at rTorrent Settings-->Downloads ;
Limit upload slots to 25 or 50,
Set min/max number of peers to 50 or 80,
Change min/max numbers of peers for seeding to 1 (dont want to waste too much bandwidth/cpu resources on seeding torrent with many peers and seeds around)
Change wished numbers of peers to 50 or 80.

If possible, I dont recommend users to run 'check hash after download' because it affects the HDD I/O. The torrent application already run its hash check on the file pieces when the file is being downloaded. So, there is no worry about data corruption.

Oh ya, at 'General' of rtorrent settings, increase the value of "Update GUI every" to 5 or 10 seconds. Dont wanna hammer the server for refresh too often.

Seedbox admin might need to edit .rtorrent.rc directly in case if GUI settings have issue of retaining/saving the modified settings. (It seem like all settings will revert to default after reboot even though user already saved it by using the GUI)

1:10PM = rutorrent is running fine, longer time for uptime than yesterday ^.^
By the way, the HDD I/O is constantly at 100% =.=""

it up to you. no min or max on donation. yg penting kamu ikhlas  nod.gif  nod.gif

whistling.gif eh eh....From economic point of view, I recommend you to set a minimum donation.

Think of how many public oriented company struggle to survive (except company in guise of Government)

Think of all those welfare based society at Western nations who in deep trouble because of this kind of mentality.

EDIT: log off feature has a issue :

[16.02.2012 14:04:45] JS error: [http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/rutorrent/js/jquery.js : 16] A security problem occurred.

So far, the rutorrent is running very well. How is the test of setting the network buffer?

Btw, I have been checking the public and private seedbox for quite a while now. Why private seedbox CPU usage is higher than public seedbox?

minimum donation amount only apply private seedbox login. for public seedbox, no min and max smile.gif i do this because i also consider current economy situation. if we put the limit too high, people complain say no money. if we put limit too low cannot also, people will complain also.  laugh.gif

so, better if i dont set any limit for it.  icon_rolleyes.gif  but bear in mind, if we dont have enough donation to pay next month invoice, we have to tutup kedai liao  cry.gif  cry.gif

blink.gif So...the one I'm in is public or private? If private, what is the min donation amount?

Hmm...in this case....you might need to ask lowyat moderator to delist ONLY this thread from every search engine. (which I doubt if they will help)

Or....you can remove the public seedbox address and login details ; ANY lowyat users who want to use the seedbox will need to PM you to get the public seedbox account.
However, google cache might store the information, so new password may be required.

The person who downloaded 217.36gb is abusing the public seedbox mad.gif ....unless if other people also want to download the same files..........then I dont have comment. However, please remember that bandwidth is very costly. sad.gif

At the end of day, I firmly believe the public seedbox will be closed down, if not, there will be severe limitation imposed.

what is your budget for this?  laugh.gif

Technically, RM60 permonth for premium seedbox is perfectly reasonable, but most of us here fall into the poor category.

I think all your donating user would rather pay for VPN service (which is RM30 for 30 days) from your competitors doh.gif

Hmm...I have been wondering........

syahpian, is it possible for you to setup a VPN for multiple user?
Cost wise, VPN is better choice than seedbox. You wont need a large hdd or computing power for the server.

cool2.gif Too bad I already out of budgeted money for this month.

sweat.gif I thought there are many guides on the internet on how to setup a vpn server?

1)http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-pptp-vpn-server-with-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx.html
2)http://pigtail.net/nicholas/pptp/

Personally, I prefer the second guide, more comprehensive. smile.gif

Note: When you want to setup the VPN stuff......dont reload the OS without notifying us. laugh.gif

Hope it gonna be ready ^.^
Well, unlike public seedbox which all the files can be sabotaged or deleted by users for fun, VPN works differently.
Instead of downloading it to server hdd (seedbox), you are connected to vpn server and using the vpn dedicated line directly (still limited by users internet package, at least no throttling). Thus, you gonna save the files from torrent into your own HDD.

The only problem, basically we are connected to VPN LAN, which means if someone is using windows file and printer sharing feature, other can access those stuff (security issue). Hopefully, akmalhisyam would block those port.

smile.gif I have been thinking for quite a while. You are offering us such as wonderful services. But, I have to ask several questions to put my mind at ease. The first question.

1)What is the privacy policies for public/private seedbox and vpn service?

Yes, the privacy policies from server hosting provider.

In addition to the first question, what is your own privacy policy for us when we use your services?
