I guess what I can do is perhaps persuade my job agency to ask them if previous PRs who renounce it because of national service would have it count against them when applying for EP.

I posted a couple links earlier, but you can also go ahead and google, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that people who "renounce PR to skip NS" are almost-blacklisted by the government. Sucks that you're paying the price for a decision your dad made, but ... what's done is done, take your skills to some other country lor.

QUOTE(crazy25kid @ May 3 2012, 02:26 PM)
Actually, why do you all blame the parents for applying PR for the kid?
They may or may not know that their sons will have to serve NS.

QUOTE(sylar111 @ May 3 2012, 02:31 PM)
It's not my parent's fault.
Of course they do not know. If they knew they would not have applied in the first place.

I beg to differ - I have absolutely no intention of "talking bad" about your parents, but they obviously did not find out enough about the whole "apply PR for kids" process before doing so. If not their fault then whose fault? ICA fault because they never tell your parents about this when they were applying? hmm.gif

My father was a PR there and he now has the choice to get back his CPF.

You're not getting his point. Assuming you don't give up your PR, you can't happily withdraw everything from CPF at 55th birthday. I dunno the details but you can only withdraw some ridiculously small sum, then the rest government will only give you back by monthly payment over next 20 years or something like that.

If you give up your PR, and if you are West Malaysian, you still can't (immediately) get your CPF back, still have to wait til 50-55: http://mycpf.cpf.gov.sg/CPF/my-cpf/Overseas/LivO9.htm

So all those who served NS are not having a good career?

nonid to argue lah, he already made his choice to give up PR to avoid NS and now already realize the consequences, too late for him to go back in time and re-do his NS leh.

just drive in, as long as your road tax is valid then Ok liao. make sure you got touch n go card with money.

when u pass the singkapo immigration, tell them u got no autopass card. immediately after u pass immigration then park at the side and go buy the autopass card. they will just go and look at your road tax disc before issuing the card.

if u coming in on weekday, u will need to pay $20 per day (+$5 if u go through any ERP gantry). all this $$ is paid upon exit from singapore through your autopass card so while you are here u need to reload at 7-11.

Got money buy ferarri, but no skill to drive. Shame!

What percentage of drivers (any driver, not just ferrari) know the limits of their cars anyway? 5%? 10%? I see people on highway, heavy rain also speed at 110km/h like a boss, how many of these drivers know just how much traction your tyres lose in the wet?

I doubt the average salary in SG is S$7,037 as the below link suggests, what you think?

You think it's too high or too low? Anyway two points. The figures you quoted are household income, not per person; and average and Median are two different things entirely.

"As reported in the news, median monthly household income from work has increased by 11% from S$6,342 in 2010 to S$7,037 in 2011"

To me I don't see much wrong with these figures. One family one household, mother and father both work and earn ~$3k each also around there already what (the figures quoted in the article are inclusive of employer CPF).

Then what, take few hours cross into JB just to deposit ringgit there? Some more at JB side no car? No thanks I'd rather gladly pay $10.

Generally speaking, is 2k enough to survive in Singapore if live moderately?

"moderately" is a vague concept and means different things to different people. Like MacKiddo mentioned, you could survive on that figure by sharing a small room with 2 other people, but does that fit your definition of "living moderately?"
