Hello! I'm keen to join in the SONY NEX group!  biggrin.gif  HOWEVER, the issue bothering me is that whether to get the NEX C3 or 5N. I got advised by the sales personnel to get the NEX C3, cause the image quality are equally the same! On the other hand, I saw some of you still prefer the latter one. Hmm, actually is there any difference that will affect the image quality? Is it Worth for the price paid for the upgrade from C3 to 5N? Any advice for me? Nearly Zero knowledge to photography O__O In a dilemma of C3 or 5N. cry.gif  cry.gif  appreciate much for the adviceeee!!  blush.gif

Yes. 5N. For the Magnesium alloy body + grip , remote control/ Bulb mode, full HD video, touch screen. I think it's worth the extra price.

Any settings to shoot this scene?

Hit between F16 to F22 aperture, iso 100, 200. It will just black out the objects in the foreground and gives u those deep colors. Back home, use Gimp to change the color balance with more red and yellow. The problem is more to .. being there at the right time , right place with the right weather. laugh.gif

I am starting to think that sunset and sunrise pictures are one of the easiest to get, even without the very capable NEX. Here are 2 photos taken with my Samsung Wave 5mpx camera phone.

icon_rolleyes.gif Still, I am quite happy to receive an SMS from Sony that I can collect my NEX tomorrow.

Some works from the workshop.

IMHO, the pictures don't demonstrate the effects of using an external flash sad.gif

Anyway, I have updated the FIRMWARE link on the thread's first page which should better serve all our NEX enthusiasts irregardless of the model.

i have spent more than 1.5hours to test trigger and flash at the shop.
YN560 apparently is not workable with the trigger.
at last i bought YN468 which is slightly more expensive but with multi flash mode which is what i want!
it did work with the trigger with our NEX flash.

If this seagull works well indoor and out doors, I'm running out of my door to get one. laugh.gif
Do let us know how it handle the NEX preflash.

QUOTE(stimix @ Mar 7 2012, 11:24 AM)
BTW, that SP90, u using what adapter to NEX? and for sure no AF right?

Due to the fact of no AF, I'm seriously looking for an old Minolta MD 50mm F3.5 lens since I having the Minolta-NEX adapter liao..Dunno good buy or not since not many review on the ancient macro lens..

Right now still waiting for my Sigma 70-210mm...BTW, your raynox? no deal?
*
I regularly use my 35mm 1.8 and about 90% of the time i get sharp pics thanks to the Focus Peaking. At 50mm, i think your issue won't be AF since focus peaking is good, but the lack of Image Stabilization would be the problem for you especially since it is just F3.5.

went to timesquare last week looking for sony nex-5n but two camera shop ask to buy nikon 1 , bad review from them about nex-5n . Can i Have all the opinion from Sifu here thanks
*
For NEX 5N it's the clicking noise issue only la. Nikon 1 sensor smaller than NEX ASP-C and smaller than micro 4/3 sensor, so that's already one factor to sway your decision.

Seagull SYK-5 + Nissin DI622 II, new from Studio Zaloon yesterday evening, thanks to this thread's shakehead.gif poison. I know nothing about off camera flash, so this indeed opens a new can of unknowns for me haha.. laugh.gif excited.

Room was totally dark when this shot fired. This thing fires each time.. even when the NEX flash is set to -2, cover nex flash with my palm, even as i adjusted fill flash, slow sync, shutter speeds from 1/20 to 1/160. Attached Image

I've got no Aquarium. But i'll attempt something similar when i got time.. using a drinks chiller box?? haha . I didn't even know that Flash unit can Zoom in and out, until I heard the DI622 making some mechanical noises. I thought I had bought a transformers decepticon ohmy.gif .

QUOTE(serewen @ Mar 9 2012, 09:04 AM)
Hi, whats the price for these both? btw, you can test to snap the effect of the water splashing with something dropping off and you need a high speed shutter flash sycn e.g. 1/1250(when attached an external flash unit), but the limitation of nex is only went to 1/160 max.
*
QUOTE(anakrantau @ Mar 9 2012, 08:20 PM)
how much did u bought for beagull SYK-5 & Nissin DI622 II?
*
Opening price RM55 for SYK-5 and RM450 for DI622 II(nikon ittl). You may try to bargain la icon_idea.gif , might get slightly less than that.

Serewen, do we really need 1/1250 for such a shot? The DI622 has a test button at the back which will fire the flash. Can also manually press it and full manual sync.

anyone could recommend any filter for nex5n? just to protect the les from dust ect and will not effect the pic taken.

and is it possible to captured this waterfall scene with nex5n + 16mm @ 55mm lens?
user posted image
because when I see the shutter to be slower, I can seem to adjust the apature@iso lower in order to decreese the light exposer..

p/s : real newbie with manual settings here smile.gif

Yes. Here's my attempt 2 weeks ago with the old-5 + kit lens. Stuck the marumi CPL in front to reduce the brightness and to cut the water reflections. Expose for 1 second, iso 200 + some curve adjustments in gimp.

I bought used NEX5 for my girlfriend yesterday. Now she complaining say the liveview has a lot of noise. Is it setting wrong or what?

Nevermind.. I already checked and its normal.. She just being fussy..  doh.gif
*
You can still test it. Change to Aperture mode and dial it up to something like F20. Then aim at the sky and take a pic. Point the camera at another cloud and take another pic. THis is one way to check if there's dust on the sensor or not.

CPL will reduce the water reflection but u want the water reflection in this particular pic right? coz its d reflection dat gives us the illusion dat water is moving. try another one with the cpl removed.

but again, cpl will cut the amount of light by 1/2, hence lengthen the exposure
*
No, I did not want those reflections. In fact I wanted the rocks and the riverbed underneath the water to show. It was also pretty cool to be able to illustrate two types of water effects from the same spot brows.gif .

This fireworks picture should make it easier for you to choose where to camp and snipe. Yesterday everyone had to take a wild guess and if your tripod is aiming the other way, you'd be in trouble.....
