Budget: Lower the better, Don't intend to spend too much, Maybe below RM2,000 if can get? Or something near 1k?

Preferable brand : Common brand for more resell value and parts, is it Canon and Nikon?
Type of photography u want to do : Just family photos, nice scene and potrait shoots, basically point and shoot but the normal compact camera sucks. DSLR quality is incredible. Using Nikon D5000 now, but it is not mine.
Any specific models in mind? : None
Any specific features u want? : Don't know much about cameras, hardly use any of the functions in D5000, except just zoom and switch between the auto/preset functions
