Looking for my first dslr (beginner but probably gonna keep it as a long as possible) ... need some recommendations biggrin.gif Thx

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR
Budget: rm2.5k -3k
Your Location:   KL
Preferable brand : Canon / Nikon
Type of photography u want to do :  Interior architecture, outdoor casual, portrait, landscape, and detailing
Any specific models in mind? :  eos d650, eos d100
Any specific features u want? : user friendly, easy to carry around, good for poster printing, can be fitted with wide-angle lens (preferably wide selections of lens in affordable range...?)
*
Nikon D7000 or D3200(depends on ur budget, d3200 is much cheaper u can get additional lens with extra money)
or
Canon 60D or 600D (same case as above)

Budget: below RM4k

Preferable brand : Nikon/Fujifilm
Type of photography u want to do : Landscape, outdoor
Any specific models in mind? : D7000,D5300, x100s, x-m1/x-e1
Any specific features u want? : nothing in mind yet

before this plan to buy D7000 but it's heavy. Recently my fren introduce me fujifilm x100s and x-m1... But still not sure which 1 better. Any sifu can explain ?
*
im not sure bout fujifilm, it's quite costly though.. if nikon, then d7k is a great one if ur budget is good. getting more lenses means more versatility.. the d3200 is also a great camera for its price. u could get an extra portrait or wide angle lens like the 35mm 1.8G or tokina 11-16 or tokina 12-24 (make sure the tokina one comes with motor or else it wont autofocus with the d3200. it will focus with d7000 though)

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Prime Lens
Budget: Max rm 2000
Your Location:   Subang Jaya
Preferable brand :  Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Street photograhy, indoors
Any specific models in mind? :  Sigma 30mm f1.4 or nifty fifty Canon 50mm f1.8
Any specific features u want? :  I want something that is fast, an on the go lens for street photography. I'm using a 60d which is crop sensored. I am afraid the 50mm is too narrow for street photography and not fast enough. Do you think that extra rm1x00 difference is worth it? Where to get it ?

Thanks in advance. Have a great day.
*
why not get sigma 35mm f1.4? 50 for street might be a bit tight if there're many ppl..
sigma 30mm 1.4 is just for crop sensor right? if u dun plan for FF upgrade, then it's a good option too.

QUOTE(alvincks @ Nov 4 2013, 11:28 PM)
Thanks -kytz-, it really help!

Regarding the night scenery, sometimes the place a bit dark and after captured, the photo show like yellowish, like a lot distortion in the picture, I recalled this is one of the criteria she complained..may be bcoz of flash..just a rough guess smile.gif

another question, if 2nd hand camera have SC 10k, is that means the camera have captured 10k time? what will happen if SC too much? what is the ideal case for 2nd camera?

D7000 still selling? I know 7100 selling around 5k if not mistaken, which is over my budget sad.gif

Could you please share the different between D5200 vs D7000 vs D7100, in case you have idea on these ?
*
that's because of the white balance. the street light makes photo yellowish..can be corrected using photoshop.
maximum life spend of a shutter unit is around 100k.. if more than 100k, need to change the shutter mechanism

Hi guys/gals!  smile.gif

I like photography and I've been using the Canon Ixus 220 HS for a few years.  Now I would like to move on to something more advanced.  I've just started working recently which explains the low budget.  Anyway, I would like to practise more 1st before moving on to a higher tier like the DSLR.

Can help to recommend a good camera?  notworthy.gif

get a mirrorless..(much better than advanced compact)
either canon or sony.
canon eos M
or get sony nex 3n
both around 1.3-1.4k

Hi folks, green horn camera user here.

I love to take shots with phone but the quality of it starting to fail me - as I desire better photo quality  tongue.gif

Therefore I went for a search on what type of camera that can fulfill my needs and I think I am into Enthusiast camera. It is cheaper but better than point & shoot - balance between $ and quality.

However, with limited info I have on hands, hope Gurus here can shed some light on the direction I am going.

Thanks.

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  Enthusiast Camera (in between dSLR and Point & Shoot)
Budget: <RM1k
Your Location:   Northern Region of Peninsular
Preferable brand :  I know only Nikon / Fuji / Sony / Canon. Not particularly like anyone of them ~
Type of photography u want to do :  Mother nature / Sunset / Sky / Of course friends and families smile.gif
Any specific models in mind? :  Currently looking at Nikon CoolPix & Canon Powershot series
Any specific features u want? :  Pocket size and fast on getting the camera ready on shots as the moment might just slip away in split second ~

* Ps: I might not be able to understand some professional terms so please if you have time explain it in more layman term. Thanks again.
*
Cheaper : Olympus E-PM1
Abit more expensive: Olympus EPL3
other option: u can go for CANON POWERSHOT S110 or s100 (both are great small compact cam)

Nex series are not m43. They are mirrorless aps-c sensor. m43 usually has smaller sensor compared to aps-c sized sensor which are used in dslr..
Canon Eos M is also not m43. also it is a mirrorless..

so u want m43 or mirrorless?
m43: try find Olympus E-PL5~ thumbup.gif
mirrorless, it's either EOS M or the Nex 3n~ both are less than 1.5k now..

Hi Frends,

Good day, i still can't decide if I sud go for Nikon 600 full frame DLSR or D800 as im getting different feedback from varies ppl saying D600 having dust issue and or some sort of problem with Nikon and few recommend canon any advised.
*
what dslr n lenses are u using now? if u're not using any camera now, it's fine to choose either canon or nikon system.. if u dun mind bout no video capability and heavier, there's always the d700 (which has been a great cam)
if u want lightweight, there's this d610 (improved 0.5 shutter speed, changed the shutter mechanism so no more oil issue and one more thing i forgot.. i think is the white balance or something. these upgrades are quite worth it la anyways if u wanna go for a new body. new body d610 around less than 6k la.

bt if u talk bout d800, then abit headache, cz canon has this 5dm3, which are equally tempting~ haha..

btw d600 i think some units have some doesnt.. depends on luck. bt if u wanna buy new body, i recommend d610.

Any specific features u want? : wide angle zoom

Also, I would like to know if there's any place that sells camera at a lower price as compare to those retail stores such as Sony.

Thank you =)
*
wide angle zoom , u need to buy additional lens.. bt the 18mm on dslr considered wide already.. not ultrawide though.
Nikon d3200, canon 600d (since 650d n 700d only has additional touch screen feature and has no difference in image quality, better get cheaper one), or sony nex3n or canon eos M~
Olympus E-PL5 is nice cam too. bt be reminded it has smaller sensor. usually bigger sensor wins.

u mean 7d or 5dm2? for me i'd get 5dm2.. bt if u shoot sports, or fast paced shots, 7d would be better..
other than that, 5dm2 is a good camera as it has better noise control more bokeh~
well, depends on ur current lenses too.

But metering for 5D mark II max +/- 2 only, enough for landscape long exposure? 9 AF point only. Only IQ control is better than 7D right?
*
yeah IQ and low light performance is better. long exposure i think every camera can do it provided if u use an ND filter. im not sure bout this bt nikon D700 seems to offer better specs than 5dm2~
5dm2 only has 1 cross type AF point though while 7d has 9~

when buying camera, we usually take many aspect into account such as pricing, image quality, camera design, camera size, camera weight, and additional features like wifi and gps. not forgetting the type of cameras we want to find like simple compact point and shoot, advanced point n shoot, compact superzooms point n shoot, micro 4/3(which currently panasonic n olympus is using), mirrorless and dslr..
usually in image quality, the bigger the sensor, the better the overall image quality.. that said, full frame dslr/mirrorless have biggest sensor, followed by entry level dslr/mirrorless, then m43, then Nikon 1, finally the compact digicam.
u could check them out more by googling them out..above are just my opinion only lar.. maybe got some mistakes lar.

sometime auto focus point doesn't help much in getting the shots that you want. let's say you wanna focus on a baby's right eye to get that wow pic, AF point might not focused correctly. But using manual focus point will achieve that. So, in my opinion how many AF point there is, is not really important.

5dm2 is a full frame body and it works very well with L lenses compare to 7d.
*
ure right in that sense..bt not many ppl can manual focus that accurately n fast.. bt 5dm2 is definately the choice to go if compared with 7d. n yes, 5dm2 will yield sharper images.

below 5k+? a7 my guess would be just below 6k for body only.. with lens would be 6k+ to 7k..
olympus omd em1 i think is a micro 4 third camera.. smaller sensor than a normal dslr..quality good, bt not as good as dslr generally bt light.
Eos-M not bad choice.. just limited choice of lenses.
Nex would be a nice choice. fits just right in ur budget, u can get multiple other lenses. no need nex 7 though.. can get nex5r or nex5t or nex6L or sort of things. get a prime lens u're good to go.
