Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR
Budget: RM3k+- with kitlens
Your Location:  KL
Preferable brand :  Canon or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Mainly for Video, since brother has D90 for photo. Landscape
Any specific models in mind? :  D650 or D60
Any specific features u want? :  Any feature that aids video capturing.

I'm new to DSLRs and looking forward to buy one mainly for videography. Don't really need to be fully user friendly. I have been looking at Canon models, specially the D650 and D60 as I heard quite good reviews on them, but I don't know which to choose between(or even if there is a better one within the budget range that sifus here can recommend laugh.gif )

I've checked on the canon website and there are a few things that the D650 wins over D60, but I'm not sure if it matters. Hope to get some advise biggrin.gif

I think you meant 60D and 650D.

To keep it short... advantage for 60D is the grip is more suitable for bigger hands, top LCD display, bigger viewfinder etc. But that's more for photos.

650D for video can do everything that the 60D does and in addition, can autofocus for video (though its still slow even with the new STM lens so not suitable for running and gunning)

Ah yes, 650D and 60D, sorry about that. Was pretty blur biggrin.gif

What do they stand out from? They are pretty much the same apart from the things you mentioned about the 60D for photography. Or are you saying that the 60D is a good camera for Photo and Video, while the 650D shines on the Video part only by comparing the two?

Also, I heard 60D is launched pretty long ago, which I have no idea when. That kind of concerns me as I have no idea when the 70D(or so) launches biggrin.gif I know it's a bad mentality to have, but is there a (an estimated) release date for the 60D successor?

Rumor has it that 70D is going to consolidate both the 60D and 7D models so I think can expect it won't be cheap.

Nevertheless, I think you already know that 550D, 600D, 650D and 60D all offers the same image quality (heck.. the never cameras could even have better jpegs) so the difference between them are just conveniences like swivel screen, viewfinder, top LCD etc. None of these camera body can do something that another cannot do.

If I were to start all over again... with that 3K+ budget.. I'll think of what lens to get first... then only think about body.

In my case..I'll go with a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 + 600D even if one of it is second hand.

If that is true, I wouldn't mind choosing between the 650D and 60D if the rumored 70D is selling above 4k(at least with kit lens). If it's around RM3k when it launches with the rumored features, I'll have a Skrillex hairstyle in an instant. However I don't think in the camera world there is a fixed date for model launches unsure.gif

I was not very sure of that, but the reviews through DigitalRevTV does sort of show the way you mentioned them biggrin.gif Is it the same for video then? I don't mind the Auto Focus technology cause being around machines I wasn't really a fan of automated features, even car transmissions. Also by any chance, do you know how it will perform compared to the Nikon D5100? I got a friend who has it and it shoots videos pretty well biggrin.gif

The only thing I remember that 650D wins over 600D is the touch screen, other than that I have forgotten cause I just narrowed down between 650D and 60D.

Hmm.. thank you for that advise, maybe I should start researching about the lenses too then. I've only been researching about the body blush.gif noobish mistake

There's really nothing much between Canon and Nikon... one can argue till the cow comes home but at the end of the day, its just which brand's interface and ergonomics that you prefer. I don't shoot video but seems like a lot of folks go either canon, panasonic GH2 or NEX's for video.

Anyway... at the end of the day, getting a 550D or a 7D, a D5100 or D7000 or a A77 won't make your pics, video or low light performance any different but a different lens will.

Thank you biggrin.gif The last thing I have to do is just try it myself
