Both APTbackup and PKGbackup works on the same principle. PKGbackup has an option to save the list into dropbox, otherwise it will save the list of tweaks in the contacts application (if you scroll the contacts, you will find one contact with gibberish name. )

APTbackuo does the same thing, it will save a list of your tweaks (the tweak name, the repo where the tweak is downloaded from) and it will save it in a note file. I am not sure where the note file is saved but I'm sure google will let me know.

This note file will be backed up via the normal iTunes backup process.

Once you wipe your iPhone clean and upgrade etc, your jailbreak will be gone. Once you restore the backup file the note (for Aptbackup ) or the contacts (for PKGbackup ) will be restored to the phone as well.

Now the next process is to jailbreak the iPhone (if there is a jailbrek for that particular firmware laaaa). Once the iPhone is jailbroken, cydia would be automatically installed.

The next process is to manually download either PKGbackup or Aptbackup. This is the only manual thing you have to do.

After either PKGbackup or Aptbackup is installed, the app will automatically look for the restored contacts or lists. Once it finds it, all you have to do is press the restore button and PKGbackup or Aptbackup will automatically try and download all the tweaks you had before based on the lists.

That is the concept for both program.

Err Fadil, you have side business on jailbreaking iPhone is it? How many iPhone you have meh? I think every week you try and jailbreak and downgrade iPhones. Heh heh heh.

Jaredleto, edit your post (I think about 6-7 post up) and remove any mention about piracy enabling app.

As for your problem, are you using in iPhone 4?

Cydia is not piracy but you mentioned the app ins**** in post #2126. That is what needs to be taken out.

My understanding on what you want to (you do not like the layout from the previous owner) would be to do a full restore but you are right that the firmware is no longer signed by Apple.

Do you remember if you have 5.0.1 SHSH saved?

Do this for me.

1. Download TinyUmbrella 5.10.9 (http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/)
2. Install it and connect your dead iPhone
3. Open up TU and in the advance tab, check mark the box that says "Request SHSH from Cydia"
4. Click Saved SHSH

TinyUmbrella will retrieve the SHSH from Cydia. Get back to us if you manage to get the 5.0.1 SHSH

That is also another option.

If I were to buy the iPhone used, I'd restore it to 5.1 and experience it without any jailbreak for 2-3 weeks and then jailbreak 5.1 tethered if you want to try the jailbreak experience.

You have the 5.0.1 SHSH saved in cydia.

Go to the first post and there is a link from Redmondpie under the downgrade section (re-restoring to 5.0.1 is basically the same steps).

You need to create a signed IPSW using iFaith and the 5.0.1 SHSH.

Once the custom firmware is created, you should be able to restore the iPhone 4 to 5.0.1

Technically yes. But a re-jailbreak only jailbreaks the iPhone (fixing the iBooks issue etc) but it does not automatically install cydia (that's why the guide keeps saying to re-jailbreak but to not re-install cydia). In the case for jaredleto, something is wrong with his cydia. If he installs cydia, I am not sure if this will fix his problems or make it worse.

It is very dicey to play around with the 4s jailbreak. At the moment, there is no path to downgrade/restore the iPhone 4s should anything wrong occurs unlike the situation where jaredleto is in (where he can restore back to 5.0.1).

I would not mess with the current 4s jailbreak.

I have had some ringtone problem as well. Sometime it is loud and sometime it's not (I have missed several calls). I have not really compared the vibration of the 4s vs the iPhone 4.

Some people who have created the custom firmware can downgrade to this custom firmware anytime they want so that's why Suntzulee mentioned that you can try 5.1 and if you are not happy with it, you can always go back to 5.0.1

You cannot upgrade to 5.0.1 unless you have the 5.0.1 SHSH saved. Check the top of Cydia and tell us what SHSH is saved for your 3Gs.

Is your iPhone 4 jailbroken tethered on 5.1? Or are you stickin with the stock 5.1?

You have downloaded the 5.0.1 SHSH from Cydia or you have downloaded the 5.0.1 iOS firmware?

How did you download the SHSH? Using Tinyumbrella I assume?

Where did you get the 3Gs?

I think suntzulee had this issues before. Maybe you want to ask him how he manage to solve it?
