Higher engagement points is good for tech climbs when one needs to rachet the pedals lo... Also good for trackstanding.

Hey all,
Went by a shop this evening and saw some Lapierre bikes. Store owner said that Lapierre is in the high-end category of bikes whereas Giant is in the middle-end category. Also mentioned that Giant is more common nowadays compared to Lapierre and that Lapierre is better going uphill compared to Giant. Showed me the X-Control 210 and 310, and I must say that I liked them. Didn't get to test ride the bikes, but like it just for the looks. Anyway, couldn't find many reviews on these models so want to ask if anyone here has either the 210 or 310 and how is it compared to a Giant Trance or Anthem (my first choice is the Trance). |

What's the price they quoted you for 210 and 310? Of course I thought he said that just to make the sale happen. Only thing about these 2 models I've read is that the absorbers uses Lapierre's own stuff and doesn't perform as well as others. But this is just reviews off the net I found a while ago. Having said that, I am hoping someone here owns one and can give better insight compared to the Trance or Anthem. |

BETTER stuffs/components than 310 or 210. Fox fork and rear shox some more. Not propriety rear shock which looks like a Raidon/Epicon Of course I thought he said that just to make the sale happen. Not to bad mouth Lapierre, but, I personally think the brand is a tad bit expensive. |

If the parts on the Anthem X3 is better compared to both the 310 and 210, then I'll just keep looking out for the Giant bikes. Giant is proven. Not to bad mouth Lapierre, but, I personally think the brand is a tad bit expensive. |

QUOTE(s6xs9x @ Mar 24 2012, 11:21 AM) How's the engagement comparison between chosen to CK. if it's half as good should be ok to try, cuz it's lesser half the price. The sound and durability I'm not sure But the smoothness is almost the same Smoother than Hope hub. Maybe the durability is ain't good as Hope. Chosen XC hub around 550. All mountain is around rm 660 I think |

Giant, merida, scott, Lapierre is mass brand. Lynskey, Yeti, SC is boutique brand. Go for Giant in this case cause Lapierre is expensive because the importer mark it up. if u go UK or EU, both Giant n Lapierre is same category. |

QUOTE(dvng @ Mar 24 2012, 08:22 PM) After keeping a set of CK which i have bought a year back, i decided to slapped it into my SX trail after replacing the 9mm axle with a 12mm axle. I was using a MVR which is a rebadged Chosen hubs before changing to the CK's. First impression, the sound is a real turn on if you happened to hear how a CK hub sounds like. It has 72 engagement compared to the MVR 36 engagement. Verdict, the 72 engagement hub is really draggy. I repeat draggy as though you are pulling a sandpaper on a smooth floor. The hubs doesn't coast very well on a flat trail. It will come to halt if you do not keep pedalling especially if you are looking for a breather to recover from a hard climb. One thing it does really well with 72 engagements is that it does engaged much quicker than a normal 24 or 36 hubs. Very good for steep and quick climbs but not so good for long extended climbs i.e twin peaks or lung buster. For downhill it is quite good if you are trying to spin out from a low gear as it engaged quickly but it does wear you out due to its resistance from the extra engagements. In terms of build, it is solid and precise and requires minimal maintenance. On a personal note, for trails like Kiara, 24 engagements is best or 36 engagements if you can find these hubs. CK's ie really suitable for XC rides in non technical terrain or flat fireroads with mild steep climbs. As for Kiara stick with Hope or other 24 engagements hubs. AS for me, i am now contemplating on returning to my trusty MVR hubs. bro dvng, any idea I can get replacement pawls for MVR too? Mine kinda worn out a bit..Added on March 25, 2012, 10:47 pm QUOTE(Odinn @ Mar 25 2012, 09:39 PM) Thanx for the advice. The pawls are non serviceable parts especially for budget hubs. So i guess you have to replace the whole hubs. ouch...
