That's one of the solution but I believe even DC2 or lightning won't be able to beat this Accelero xtreme performance. Furthermore, once you've purchased reference 7970, you dont have any other choice to upgrade for better GPU cooler unless you watercool it or find aftermarket cooler like Accelero etc.
*
on the dc2 not sure but i recall my matrix 580 temp was around 62C, so should not be too far since accelero fan was at 100%

that's the problem with reference boards. Basically early adopters of the new cards are screwed, you get all the problems of a new card, its more expansive plus you need to buy a cooler for it. i guess not much hype yet on the gtx680 due to this issue.

Guys,

I have a question on how do we check our 7970's RAM temperature? Any application that allow us to read those values? I' using HWinfo64 and saw 2 CHLL.... with a temps VRM temp1 and VRM temp2, what does it mean by that? can anyone explain, TQ.

asus software shows the temp of the ram. i think it should be the highest temp of all the ram. I guess if you are running stock should be of concern
most of the time at full load under waterblock ram is about 5C more than gpu. for max load CF is 48C first card

Thanks bro, will try to download and use it if possible. anyway, here's my latest benchmark at 1300MHz core and 1750MHz Memory, CPU only at 4GHz. try out extreme preset and scored X3624. I think the Memory and Core clock can be OC'ed even higher but will do it later.

Thanks for your kind advice bro, Like I said in my earlier post, Extreme OC is only for benchmark and not for 24/7 or during Gaming. Furthermore, we dont need to OC the HD7970 to play any games smoothly at 1080p right now. It will not cause your card to die immediately or significantly reduce it's lifespan if only for benchmark since we're taking a good care on heat dissipation and max temps on our card which we also bought it with our hard earned money smile.gif.

FYI, i even downclock my hd7970 to 700MHz core and 1000mV vcore to play games and temps never past 60degC during daily gaming...but thanks anyway.

I wonder why your CPU name and speed got erased, so it's a 3570k after all (New cpu?? rclxub.gif ). Btw, I think you should be able to hit 11k+ once your GTX680 OC'ed. How come only 9.6k since my 7970 can achieve 10.3k on stock HSF? Maybe its a cpu bottleneck?

Ran 3dmark11 performance preset again today with HD7970 clocked at 1300/1750 and 2600k at 4.8GHz, my best 3D11 score so far:

Now 3DMark Vantage with HD7970 @ 1295/1750, 2600k at 4.8GHz, somehow Vantage crash at 1300MHz so I've to lower the core to 1295MHz and it survived smile.gif. Best Vantage score so far:
