QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Jan 3 2013, 11:46 PM) Historical performance looked decent. But I prefer Hwang AQ to ASEAN Fund as AQ can invest in HK equities. I never liked funds with a narrow region focus. Well, it's just me. I don't want to have Greater China region. I have two funds in my portfolio that invest in HK. This post has been edited by David83: Jan 3 2013, 11:48 PM

QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Jan 3 2013, 11:51 PM) In that case, don't u think u might have too many funds investing in similar region? Well, I read from an article in FSM. Two regions in focus: 1. China or Greater China **even though I'm not quite convinced and I still have phobia from PCSF** 2. ASEAN This post has been edited by David83: Jan 3 2013, 11:59 PM

QUOTE(aoisky @ Jan 4 2013, 07:43 PM) I lost alot in PCSF too. But China / Greater China Fund are in uptrend but not for PCSF hopefully this year will see a steady recovery for this fund. I carry several ASEAN / Indonesia fund all performing better than my China Fund I also have PSEASF from PM and it's doing extremely good. ROI > 20% as of today!

OSK UOB is really testing my patience.
I know you guys are going to say that well, what do you expect since it's a BOND fund but seems like I bought it at the wrong timing.

If want to include time factor, then you need to include NPV coefficient right?

QUOTE(howszat @ Jan 10 2013, 09:12 PM) Not familiar with Maybank, but if you can deposit directly into a third party account, you don't even need need a Maybank account. As a new customer, you should provide loud feedback to their customer service that you would like to request for direct bank transfer via RHB. Yes, you don't need to have an account with MBB for that. This can be done over the counter or CDM but FSM requires proof of transfer. M2U is the easiest method. QUOTE(Kaka23 @ Jan 11 2013, 08:09 AM) I am looking to put more exposure at pure Asia ex-Japan funds. But only performing fund for this category is Hwang AQ which is small/mid cap.. which i am having now. Where you see FSM cautioned on this fund? QUOTE The Hwang Select Asia (ex Japan) Opportunity Fund (formerly known as Hwang Global Opportunities Fund), which invests in equities in the Asia ex-Japan markets, delivered a 23.9% return in 2012. The fund changed its investment objective effective from 15 June 2012. Prior to that, the fund invested in equities of global developed and leading emerging markets. The strong performance of the fund may be attributed to its country and sector allocation. As of 30 November 2012, the fund invested 46.6% of its assets in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand, which were the top three performing markets in 2012. Furthermore, the fund also invested 49.8% in banking, consumer goods and services, and telecommunication sectors, which are sectors that generally pay generous dividend to investors and fared well in 2012 as investors were on the hunt for yield.
The potential drawbacks of the fund are its high cash level and that its country allocation is somewhat concentrated in the more expensive South East Asian markets, namely Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand (28.7% in cash, 12.3% in Malaysia, 8.1% in Indonesia and 4.2% in Thailand). After a relatively poor 2012, we expect global trade to rebound in this year, which should benefit the export-sensitive economies (such as South Korea and Taiwan), markets which also sport lower (and hence, more attractive) valuations. Lacking exposure in the North Asia, especially in the attractively-valued markets of China, Taiwan and South Korea, could cause the fund to lag behind. Nevertheless, we believe the fund manager is likely to trim the high cash level and increase exposure to the North Asia going forward, which could help the fund deliver another strong year of performance.

QUOTE(Pink Spider @ Jan 18 2013, 04:46 PM) Simply because they have zero exposure to financials/banks which are generally quite volatile And must be in Halal business/industry/sector. Gambling, brewery, tobacco business are excluded from their portfolio consideration.
