Hi guys,

Just bought a kancil 1996 (A) 660cc. Stock car. Recently just spent RM1K to replaced wear and tear parts.
Should need at least RM2-3K to fully restore it as good as new. Not including repaint.

Was looking for thread where all Kancil owners hang around. Would like to learn more
about this car and mods to be done to this car.

660cc. Lowest hp car I have ever driven so far. Kinda a bit not use to it and keep getting tailed by people.
A bit stress at times when someone tailing u behind just cuz they think you are driving too slow.

In fact, my car just cant go as fast as I wanted it too. Is stock 660cc. So, I don't expect it to perform like a kelisa.

Anyway, would have future planning for L2s or L5s engine transplant. After restoring it back to good condition.

Thanks bro. Engine is fine. Wear and tear parts would be like the brakes, suspension and tyres. The rest so far so good. Just thinking of L5s EF-RL conversion.
Saw a few in Mudah. Some quite high price some quite okay. Is more like PnP for L5s or L series engine except L6 for kancil right?

Have to fix important wear and tear parts since is my daily car now. Later crash. Still saving up for L5s.

Engine would cost say RM3K + labour would be around RM4K, upgrade brakes and adjustables would be at least RM2K give and take.
So total I need about RM7K IINM.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also btw, 660cc it doesnt have RPM, is it PnP if I were to replace it with 850cc meter? Thinking just buy a L5 Dashboard and repalced it totally.
Since 850cc meter cost is quite close in getting a Half Cut L5 dashboard.

Hi bro, thanks for the info. Is JBJL 4 cylinder engine PnP as well? I read somewhere, JBJL 4 cylinder is more comfortable and smooth while if I wanna sprint, EFRL is good enough.
Also L2s the engine gets overheat?

Some say L5 is better since is a newer engine than the L2.

Btw guys, any idea where I can find a replacement for the roof interior on the kancil? I search around an saw a few selling bumbung ombak from Mira.
Not cheap though RM200- RM250.

Stock ones seems to be common that the roof interior keep coming off.

How much for a JBDET? Seldom see it on sale though. Is it Plug and Play? Engine Mounting same?
But what do you mean by ups and downs? What is the downside for this engine bro? Sorry if I ask too many questions.

Kinda new to kancil mods.

Anyway, kancil is a small car, don't really think one would risk driving it up to 180km/h ma. Is more like a short sprint car.
Mod also I just want more pick up rather than the stock 660cc.

Oh. Didn't know that. 1st time heard of this. Cuz usually they say just buy and remove speed cut. But then in KL roads, can get to drive to 140km/h consider very good adi. Seldom have chance to hit 180km/h in KL/PJ. Unless Kesas or other wider highway.

JBDET is plug and play... like wise its more or less like JBJL but its improved version of JBJL... there are alot selling right now... sadly there are not much R&D about this engine....

power steering wise i dont think i will effect much... because when u going 120km/j it will start to feel heavy... but im using manual steering.... so i dont mind...

suspensions, tires and brakes are important if u wanna go fast.... so invest that too if u wanna go hard and fast.

yes u are right... they are good for pickups.... im using L5 LSD manual transmission and its good for pickups... long distant u need to really push the engine....

my regular rpm is around 5k-6k rpm.... sometimes can go to 7k if i really need for that freaking speed...

I think for a small car, manual steering or power steering will be fine. But didn't know that it has such function that the power steering will feel heavy on high speed.
Unlike modern normal sedan like Vios and Myvi, Power steering wont get heavier.

but parts wise JBJL will have more than JBDET since there are not much R&D for this engine.

Brakes you are using the one from halfcut? Or upgrade from stock brakes? Tyre wise, what size are u using? should be 14" since your car power is that much?
But if it is kelisa stock 165/55/14 tyre size, then performance tyre is very few choices. Even Michelin PP2 already discontinued. Can't find any performance tyre like PP2.

7Krpm, blink.gif can seriously imagine how far you can pull away from most cars...

Exhaust need to be upgraded to match the power as well right?

Really wish can see your ride haha! Can have K-Car TT.

Ya man, taking good care of the car is my priority too. Especially mod to such powerful engine, if don't take care it wont be good
for us also. Saw one for sale in Mudah JBDET. RM2300. Cheaper than JBJL? RM2800 blink.gif

How much hp your have on wheel? Dyno before? Enough to smoke Myvi 1.3 and 1.5L? brows.gif

But the thing is finding a Mira L5 is very rare. Mostly converted ones. Even if we can find one, it would be cover with rusty parts.
Though is cheaper than conversion. But is fun to build a car up actually :biggrin: Defeats the fun if were to buy the original one. icon_idea.gif

but i did recalculated back and if i just do the engine conversion i would spend around rm4k+- with all the correct stuff included.

but on the other side im considered lucky because i only bought the engine+wiring on a halfcut move.... the foremen sold the other parts so he only charge me with the engine.... heee...

Ya around RM2300 - RM2500. Labour still around RM500-RM800. Ya including the suspension, tyres and brakes should be around there RM7.5K and yet you have emanage to add on.

So you just buy the other parts to fit in? Now RM2300 - RM2500 is half cut..not engine alone. Guess is cheaper now.

Btw bro, do you have problems like mine?

After sending the car for full service, found out there is a problem with the wiring. Suspected.

1) Problem is during daytime, whenever I step on the brake, my small bulbs in the headlamp, will be turned on as well.
Let go brakes, it will switched off as well. Is like acting like brake light. All brake lights working.

2) this is another weird problem. When I switch on my headlamp, all my brake lights including 3rd brake light will be switched on.
Therefore, on the road is kinda dangerous where ppl behind me will be cursing me on why my brake lights on all the time.
Is like I'm driving by stepping on both gas and brake pedals.

3) mech try to remove the fuse to the brake lights when the headlights were on. But then after pulling out the fuse,
my brake lights are all still switched on as well.

Anyone facing same problem as me? Mech find it weird as well. Even accessories shop find it weird.
