What does it mean if a Blu-ray is "Diamond Edition"?
*
It's a 3-Disc combo pack that includes 2 Blu-ray discs with new and extensive bonus features, and one other disc that is a DVD copy of the film with minimal bonus features. It comes with 3D Blu-ray + 2D Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy.

It is not that, not means Wikipedia must be given correct information.

Platinum Edition - first release with bonus.

Diamond Edition - name as after the film had been release as Platinum edition before. More bonus include.

Special Edition - for release where include two film in single package and 2nd film is a remake, or any anniversary edition as well.

All release is base on any release media. Either DVD or Blu-ray.

If you can find all Diamond edition came with 3D blu-ray then I said Sky reply is correct. But in fact it was not the case, it also not means must have 3 disc.
*
Yes, Andrew is right. Actually i missed that part. It depends on the studio. And it can in the form of 3 Disc or 2 disc + digital copy

It will give you a hint whether it was your player's issue or something else.
