Acer Aspire 4752G-2432G50, i5-2430M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1899, 3 years local limited warranty
Asus A43Sj, i3-2330M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999[2.44kg], Colors:Red/Blue/Pink/Green/Gold/Black
MSI CX480X, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999, W7HP, 3 years warranty
Lenovo G470, i5-2430M + AMD HD6370M@RM1999, W7HP
Samsung RV420, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999
Toshiba Satellite L745-1138X, i3-2330M + Nvidia GT525M@RM1999[2.14kg], 2nd & 3rd year warramty; color: Grace silver

which one would be the best bet?
*
Basically
CPU: i5-2430M > i5-2410M
GPU: GT525M > GT520M > AMD HD6370M

Which one to choose depends on whether work or gaming is the priority..
Personally I would go for either the Toshiba or the MSI laugh.gif

hi all, lookin forrrr

1. Preferred Brand-As long as it's not Acer
2. Budget-3-3.5k
3. Usage- Gaming  brows.gif
4. Preferred laptop/screen size 14 or 15

Recommending 15" notebooks because gaming is of priority (better specs)~
HP dv6-6c19TX, i7-2670QM + AMD HD7690M XT@RM3099[Beats]

Or if you want Full HD but with slightly weaker GPU,
MSI GE620DX-FHD, i7-2670M + Nvidia GT555M + (1920x1080)@RM3299, 8GB, 2 years warranty

If can fork out a little bit more, then this:
Asus G53Sx-S1208v, i7-2670QM + Nvidia GTX560M (2GB) + 1920x1080 (anti-glare)@RM3999, backlit keyboard, gaming backpack &mouse

Performance would be the same nod.gif
The Dv6-6114tx comes with Bluray and Beats headphones though (at a higher price, of course) haha laugh.gif

Heat issues are a thing of the past for HP...

Slim and light? These:
Dell
Inspiron 14 (N4050), i3-2350M + Intel HD3000@RM1799
Inspiron 14 (N4050), i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM1999

Inspiron 14z, i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM2119[2.01kg], colors: Black/Red

Can consider this as well (althought its slightly smaller, but with longer battery life):

Screen Size : 11/12 Inch
Usage : Gaming / Work (Predominantly Gaming)

- Want something portable enough for travelling.
- Also a life span of at least 3 years.
- Able to play all current games.
*
11.6"
Alienware Alienware M11x R3 [stock], i7-2637 + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM3999[2kg], backlit keyboard

You might want to consider a 13" subnotebook instead, but it still won't be able to play all the current games.
Sony
Vaio VPCSA35GG, i7-2640M + AMD HD6630M + 1600x900@RM4499[1.68kg], colors: Brown/Black; 2 years warranty
Vaio VPCSA36GG, i7-2640M + AMD HD6630M + 1600x900 + 256GB SSD (64GB x4 RAID 0)@RM6499[1.61kg], colors: Brown/Black; 2 years warranty

or perhaps import the LG P330 with GT555M brows.gif

*whether it lasts 3 years or not depends on how you take care of the laptop..

Hi, sifus, bit out of topic here but can u help to explain how to check whether a box is factory sealed or stuck back on after been opened? Thanks so much.=)
*
The box should have a tape sealing it and untempered... and when turned on, you should see the 1st Windows startup smile.gif

Hey guys, please recommend me a laptop. I intend to use it for productivity (office use) and development, so i3 is definitely out.

Light gaming is okay. Budget is around RM2,800 (preferably by installments either 12 months or 24 months) and Lowyat Plaza is within reach. Would love to hear suggestions from you guys.

Edit: Forgot to add, I prefer something light for traveling, so 13" or 14" would be ideal.

Can consider these:
13"
Dell
Inspiron 13z, i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM2149; colors: black/red *No VGA port
Inspiron 13z (Lotus Pink Edition), i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM2249 *No VGA port, 3 years warranty
Vostro V131, i5-2430M + Intel HD3000@RM2199[1.82kg], W7HB
Vostro 3350, i5-2430M + AMD HD6490M@RM2536[2.04kg], W7HB, backlit keyboard, Belkin Radius 15.6" Backpack *capable of gaming

14"
Acer TimelineX 4830TG-2454G75, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2599[2.17kg]
Dell Inspiron 14z, i5-2450M + Intel HD3000@RM2119[2.01kg], colors: Black/Red

Can use the remaining money to extend warranty to 3 years nod.gif

Well, I know Harvey Norman (Pavillion) are offering half price for those 1 year old laptop that they have kept. U can give a try..
For example, Acer Timeline X i5 were selling around RM1,900 compare to original price at RM2,899.
*
TimelineX 4830tg's RRP has always been RM2499 only o laugh.gif

Wouldn't i7 run hot in a laptop?

Added on January 3, 2012, 2:28 pm
Are these prices based on LYN sellers or LYP stalls?

Added on January 3, 2012, 2:29 pm
Yea, can check it out. By saying 1 yr old, do you mean first gen Core i architecture? In that case I'll pass since Ivy is around the corner, wouldn't want to spend on something 2 gens old.
*
i7 will surely run hot when on load... whether it is kept cool or not depends on the cooling design of the laptop itself..

Prices are mostly based on official brochures... smile.gif

Yea, that's what I heard too. I've seen an i7 under load hitting 90C.

Thanks, I'll probably take a walk down Lowyat this weekend and see if I can hit some good bargains. More suggestions are always welcome. This thread will close this weekend.
*
Yea, so it all depends on whether you need the i7 or not nod.gif
A cooler laptop technically will tend to last longer~

You can check out Cycom, they do offer installments nod.gif

QUOTE(danco91 @ Jan 3 2012, 08:50 PM)
Hi guys. I'm about to buy my very own laptop. So I need some recommendations.

1. Preferred brand : Either ASUS or Dell

Friends telling me that ASUS has better performance while my sis kept insisting that I should get Dell. The only thing I find it good about Dell is the customer service.

2. Budget : By max, I think I can only afford RM2k

3. Usage : So far I need them for web browsing, downloading, typing, if possible I would like to try some new games available for the PC (at its top, not necessarily best) since my home computer's specs couldn't reach those new games requirements.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : Maybe 14" or more?

Thanks guys.  biggrin.gif
*
Dell does offer better warranty support, but then for your budget, getting an Asus would be the better option for your requirements nod.gif
14"
Asus A43Sv-VX264v, i5-2430M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2349[2.44kg] *can get at RM2.1k

15"
Asus A53Sv-SX791v, i5-2430M + Nvidia GT540M (1GB)@RM2249, 750GB (7200rpm), USB3.0

QUOTE(MieHanz @ Jan 3 2012, 09:12 PM)
hiya all. Can you help me choose the best laptop based on this?

1. Preferred Brand
- ASUS, Acer, Alienware, Apple (last resort) or any other reliable brand

2. Budget
- Around 3k-4k (can be higher a bit)

3. Usage
- Mostly for heavy graphic stuffs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Paint SAI, MangaStudio & maybe some 3D rendering), music, heavy Internet surfing & moderate-heavy gaming (Sims3, online games). Use along with Graphic Tablet.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- 13-17? as long as it's easy to travel with.
- good battery life

I was torn between between the gaming laptop spec & MBP (pricy~~), if you guys have better idea on the laptops it would be awesome!
*
Asus G53Sx-S1208v, i7-2670QM + Nvidia GTX560M (2GB) + 1920x1080 (anti-glare)@RM3999, backlit keyboard, gaming backpack &mouse FTW!!! thumbup.gif
Suits all your needs yo (apart from portability and battery life), nothing is perfect, you can't get the best of everything unfortunately
