QUOTE(karakuratown89 @ Jan 14 2012, 01:50 AM) congratulations @cowithgun for ur success on that custom rom... The slim version can be found in hotfile, uploaded by another tester: i really want to try it but somehow i can't download frm megaupload n evrytime i try it says limit exceeded or some error... maybe i'll wait when u or someone else decide to upload it to someplace else.. btw, i also tried the custom rom based on the europe 2.3.6...somehow not quite satisfied with it so i flashed back to the stock 2.3.5 DXKJ5 http://hotfile.com/dl/141564307/783ca8e/GT...d_slim.zip.html This version has been optimized for speeeed... I got more than 4k score in Antutu Added on January 14, 2012, 8:28 am QUOTE(and.inc @ Jan 14 2012, 04:34 AM) Successfully upgraded to .6 via SGH OTA I have not tried to root it yet. Should be able to flash to my cROM even if you are in 2.3.6. Provided, you already have RZ recovery. Is it true that is unrootable.....If yes I might as well flash the ori .5 ROM. Or could it possible to root it n flash the ROM by our LYN cook based on the same FW ? ![]() Added on January 14, 2012, 8:29 am QUOTE(infernoaswen @ Jan 14 2012, 02:43 AM) cow next time can upload at here http://www.multiupload.com/ ohhh... okie!it will auto upload to all the other major file sharing sites so if those who prefer megaupload/fileserve or any other can choose which they want Added on January 14, 2012, 8:48 am QUOTE(emkay @ Jan 14 2012, 05:24 AM) The different between stock 2.3.6 ROM and cow 2.3.6 ROM is that the later one doensn't have 2nd layer memory (internal usb storage) any longer. Could that might be case that cause yours to failed? Does having external sd during the procedurs make any differences? No lar, sorry, my ROM still has 3 layers memory. During flashing, only the device memory will be flashed. Both your USB and external sd will not be touched. But it does swap the internal and external sd mount point. So, you big external sd is not in /sdcard and the internal sd is now on /sdcard/external_sd. Among other changes are: 1. Rooted 2. Busybox 3. Deodexed - Meaning, you can now use custom Theme. 4. The following bloatware removed: - AnalogClock,Dlna,DrmProvider,DrmUA,Email,EmailWidg et,GameHub,Maps,MiniDiary,Memo,MusicHub,Phonesky,P hotoRetouch,SamsungApp,SamsunWidgetNews,SamsungWid getStockClock,SamsungWidgetWeatherClock,SocialHub, SisoDrmProvider,SnsAccountFB,SnsAccountLi,SnsAccou ntTw,SnsDisclaimer,SnsImageCache,SnsProvider, syncm ldm.apk,syncmlds.apk,Talk,Task,VoiceSearch,wssyncm lnps.apk (Warning: many many stuff will be gone. But your ROM will be very light) - You may still download it from Market or from backup 5. Mount point swap for internal / external sd 6. Better memory management (tweaked Task killer) 7. I also tweak the lowmemorykiller too. Should give you better Antutu score. Those fail to update in this forum, fail to update to stock rom 2.3.6 lar... QUOTE(jananan @ Jan 14 2012, 09:18 PM) haven't got to Antutu yet... still wanna do other stuff first... Nice! Will do that. I am now trying to make the ROM a little more non-stocky... I did the following:did you use the new roboto font from ICS ? imho it looks better than droid sans... just need to rename and drop into fonts folder rename the Roboto.ttf > DroidSans.ttf and RobotoBold.ttf > DroidSans-Bold.ttf and you shall have Roboto all over * i think the filename is case sensitive, do exercise caution... 1. YES! REMOVED TouchWiz! 2. Using Zeam Launcher 3. Go SMS Pro 4. ICS Wallpaper 5. Roboto font The memory usage is even lower! Now pending approval from Zeam and Go developers before I can release it |

QUOTE(CarroTT @ Jan 14 2012, 11:26 PM) You keep up the good work cow ! ! ! TouchWiz is good, but kindna heavy on the RAM. SGW has limited RAM... so, I decided to go for Zeam Launcher. It's really light! But i think, you gonna hate it! it's too simple! LOL. anyway, this ROM is now really light and fast! Like the way I want it!Its already 1.4 Ghz, dunno if this chipset can ov by how much more. Never try, never know Anyway, i really like Touchwiz its such a great UI so far i havent found a launcher that is better than Touchwiz cyanogenmod UI sucks SPB shell 3D looks great but too fancy and heavy for normal use ADW launchers are good, but i still like the samsung touchwiz the UI for my optimus 2x is not as good as Touchwiz too but Zeam Launcher seems promising Here is some SS. Device memory usage is only 86mb (with nothing but Antutu installed) This post has been edited by cowithgun: Jan 14 2012, 11:32 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

This is first time I try to mod a ROM... This post has been edited by cowithgun: Jan 15 2012, 02:15 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

QUOTE(jananan @ Jan 15 2012, 02:31 PM) APK files are basically zip files containing the resources needed for each app. when you launch an app it will open the APK file and decompress on-the-fly-in-the-RAM to execute the app. I check a little on this because I am really not sure if it will help since 0 compressions mean larger APK file and loading is slow in phone.using 0 compression means less effort for the processor and less RAM usage when launching apps. of course the final RAM usage of the app itself when its running does not change. in other words, apps load faster AND some tasks running in the background like music playing wont skip a beat when launching apps because the processor usage wont spike when decompressing > overall smoother experience when multitasking esp. on single core devices like ours. * the bigger the app size the more noticeable the effect. the downside, like you pointed out > will slightly increase APK file sizes. But that is not the main problem, there is Dalvik Cache. It is supposed to contain extracted .dex file of app / game that you have open before. So, once you use an app before, a cache will be created. So, I really not sure if using 0 compression will really help.... CONVINCE ME! |
