QUOTE(Thumpy Ick @ Sep 5 2012, 02:32 PM) from the looks of it, not many play electric drums here? Wow, its been sometime i haven't posted in here, SPM trial just finished here how do you guys sustain stamina for your kick drums? i'm only able to sustain for half an hour and then i'll start playing off beat. one of my pro friend places his whole feet down and raises only the front part of his feet, while i tend to have my whole feet up. his technique sustains stamina, but with his technique i find playing faster beats difficult. what should i do to improve my kick drums? should i focus more on the technique, or should i just exercise the whole leg more? For me, i used to heel up techniques, but i don't really like to use electronic drum. When I kick, the kick just bump back and made a "2nd kick" if i didn't press hard enough |

Guys, going to buy a electronic drum set (can't get an acoustic cause too loud)
I have 2 choices here: Roland TD-11k Yamaha DTX522 Which 1 should I go for? I've tried roland's mesh pad and i think they feels great but I haven't try out Yamaha's yet. Any yamaha e-drum owner here? Any feedbacks? Thanks |

QUOTE(siriusblack04 @ Feb 2 2015, 12:30 PM) I own a dtxpress iv special. imho, yamaha sound is better than roland (sounds real, not as synthesized as roland). but the downside, the pad acoustically sounds a bit loud, compared to roland's mesh.. have tried silicone pad, they bounced better, and the sound oso not as loud as it's predecessor. so I think i'd go for dtx522 ahh i see, but gonna find a plce with the drum set, gonna try it out first before i can land any conclusions. Thanks for the feedback though, appreciated |

QUOTE(fdcoiea @ Feb 9 2015, 02:01 PM) Personally prefer the DTX522. Tried two units before; a DTX522 and the DTX540 (older gen). The DTX540 technically sounds bigger, especially the Oak kit - there was much more low, same goes for their Gate Kit (the iconic Roxanne drum sound) on the DTX540 sounded big. I've actually went for the TD-11k, tried out both of them at Bentley, although I have to agree that yamaha's drum module sounded better, but i loved the meh heads a lot than yamaha's head, for me they sort of bounced too much. For me i guess feeling is more important than sound i guess, but it's just my personal preferences While the new DTX522 sounded more focus. Love the Maple kit on the 522, as well as the funky one-man drummer kit. Don't quite remember the setting but the sales person at Subang Parade Yamaha was very accommodating to set up both the 522 and 540 for me to try. For Roland, well I have a few bad experience with it (partly my fault), while experimenting how the mesh will feel like with lighting rods, it accidentally messes up some part of the mesh (wood chip/grain went in between) and had to send the unit for repair. The unfortunate part was, it was a friend's unit. He eventually sold his TD-15 and got himself a yamaha as well. Although the limit for Yamaha I feel is the midi fields that it can read - apparently if you downloaded other midi songs, some of the instruments in the midi song might not register with yamaha. Had a smoke on the water guitar part became flute -.- when i asked from the HQ, apparently the midi fields for Yamaha is unique for Yamaha, something like an apple .aac file compared to .mp3 files. QUOTE(fdcoiea @ Feb 10 2015, 01:34 PM) Hey! Congrats on your purchase! Hey thanks and will keep that in mind Well for my case, my lighting rods had some chips on the size. Used it for a couple of gigs so the side were pretty worn out. Then wanted to try out some experiment. Because Roland mesh is so sensitive, you can tap it with finger and it'll sound. So was thinking if I could cheat with a single lighting rod to get a double stroke since the individual stick will hit about mili seconds apart. After a few tries (about 3 minutes in) the mesh was not as sensitive. And eventually found out that some of the wood chips actually went in between the mesh. At first we thought it couldn't be the problem, but when we sent it for service we found out that it is. Something to do with the sensor sense the tension of the mesh to trigger, but if the chips are in between it may cut off the signal. We read about it, but did not find anything as what the service person told us - so for now, just make sure your drum stick isn't having any chipped while playing? |

QUOTE(Sammie7 @ Feb 16 2015, 09:35 AM) Which Bentley branch you went to? the one in KL town area? The Damansara's branch, but just for testing purposes, they don't have TD-11KV but TD3 over there so I just tested the mesh heads via TD3, since they used the same mesh heads anyway, they over charged me the unit a lot lol, so i head to drumstore avenue @ Paradigm Mall, but they don't sell yamahas' there.I'm having trouble to decide between Roland TD-11kv and Yamaha DTX 532k.. I would love to try both kits at the same time so I can decide whether the mesh head or silicone is better for me.. Appreciate if you guys have any other opinion.. Thanks ! TD-11KV and DTX532K its like choosing whether you prefer all mesh pads or swapping the mesh pads (or sponge pad for yamaha iirc) for real hi hats This post has been edited by boiboi95: Feb 16 2015, 10:33 AM |

QUOTE(Sammie7 @ Feb 16 2015, 12:12 PM) I see, Thanks ! Will be heading there and test it after work. Hopefully can make it in time. As mentioned on earlier post before, i prefer Roland over Yamaha because for me the sponge pad on Yamaha tends to bounce too much, i felt that the mesh pads have the feeling that i want; but Roland's module sounds bit more synthetized than Yamaha.Ya Drumstore avenue only sell Roland kits. I tried on the TD11-kv but want to try the Yamaha 1st before I make my decision. Exactly! lol |

QUOTE(siriusblack04 @ Feb 17 2015, 09:33 AM) haha. I actually felt the other way around. Mesh is too bouncy for me. I guess those who in dilemma can't make a conclusion out of mere talk. get your sticks in action. try 'em both haha most importantly choose the one you like not what other people like; and have fun! |

QUOTE(Sammie7 @ Feb 17 2015, 10:26 PM) Went and tried (thanks by the way). If only I have enough budget, I would've go for Roland TD-15kv. I like the mesh heads compare to the TD-11k/kv mesh heads. there are difference between the 11 and 15's mesh heads? i don't know about that and thought they are practically the same thing since the heads looks the same Snare : Yamaha HiHat : Yamaha (because of the actual hihat stand) Cymbals : Roland Bass Drum : Roland Sound : Yamaha I guess I'm slightly leaning towards yamaha for now since 1 of the store I went gave me better offer on the dtx 532k Which stores did you went btw? I'm curious This post has been edited by boiboi95: Feb 18 2015, 04:02 AM |
