Nope, depends on my sessions. smile.gif Its usually a lot of shows in a row, then a few breaks here and there. smile.gif

Here's the kit for tonight! It's a Japanese Yamaha. I think its a Birch Custom. Soundcheck just finished. Sounds killer. Remo heads on it. biggrin.gif Can't wait to start playing.

Looks like Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.

One rack and 2 floor toms? Normally I see 2 rack and and 1 Floor.

Was at Ikea today and bought a piece of rug. Didn't wanna set up the drums first and then buy the rug tongue.gif

Me and my wife went to scout around for some cymbals yesterday. Was at Ultimate Music, I was keen on the Stagg SH set [Bronze], but they did not have stock for them. Ken recommended the DXK set for RM890, my wife liked the sound of the cymbals. It's obviously brighter than the SH. But the thing is it is Brass.

JS has their J Basic cymbals. But I don't know how they sound.

Then, today at IPC we saw Meinl HCS going for RM800 and Sabian AAX set for RM3780 shocking.gif

Whats the best-bang-for-the-buck-cymbals under RM1k? icon_question.gif

AAX are considered pro level cymbals, hence the obvious difference in price.

As you are starting out, probably can opt for the B8 pros from Sabian; not sure if it's less than 1k tho.

If you decide to seriously proceed down this path you can upgrade later on. Some people may lose interest later on and find that they have a bunch of expensive gear that they need to sell at a low price. But if you can sustain your love for drumming you'll prob know enough by that time to decide what you want with regards to cymbals, skins, etc, but this instrument can get really expensive - really quickly, especially if you've are infected with GAS aka gear acquisition syndrome.

Also, trust your ears, if you like the sound of the cymbal who cares if it's brass? As long as it sounds good to you.

Me and my wife decided to go with the Stagg DXK cymbal set. It's a brass set but it's clear and bright. We didn't wanna spend too much on our first set of cymbals. We don't know whether we are gonna crack it in the first few months tongue.gif

I think durability works for us for the time being while we learn drumming. The PDP Concept is already an overkill tongue.gif We can screw the heads and replace 'em later with evans. But the Cymbals will have to stay. It's too costly to have to replace Zildjian A/A customs, Sabians HHX or Istanbul Sultans.

A lot of rock/metal players now play with just one rack and one floor. You can play most thing with that set up already. smile.gif And its easy to setup and carry around.
And anyway, here's a bit more eyecandy from tonight's show. Everything else is on Facebook. HAHA.

Isaac, you can experiment with 'curves' and 'split-toning' to bring up your images.
No flash was used and the shutter speed was set too low in most of the images.
Up the ISO settings. Since you are gonna convert to B&W in your final image, grain should not be an issue.
Just do not over sharpen the final image.

I just got the cymbals Stagg DXK set. It's brass but it sounds quite decent. Retails for RM890 but since it's end of the year ... you have 20% discount. I got it from Ultimate Music.

Guys. Just curious. What do u guys think about Ludwig drums? Anyone carrying it in Malaysia?

About a month ago, I know nothing about drums/drumming. ZERO.

In the past three weeks, I spent so much time on the net and visiting shops here and there looking for a drum set with pretty much no inkling of what I was actually looking for. There are shops which I walked in ... browse for 30 minutes or so ... without a single person saying "Hi!" to me tongue.gif

I initially had a budget of RM2k for the drums set. But I have spent more than that. I had a lot of questions. And all were answered by a nice chap from whom I bought the PDP Concept series from.

Amongst the drums I came across in these three weeks, DW, PDP, Yamaha, Tama, Pearl, Mapex, Grestch, Sonor, Cadeson, Ludwig, Premier, Dixon and Stagg. And my wife's cousin has a DDrum birch. Can't remember which model.
I want to start with a 5 piece kit. And until today, even after I bought the the PDP concept series, I have to say the sounds from Gretsch Catalina Maple is awesome... esp from the bass drum.

You can find Ludwig, Tama and Pearl at Bentley Music Bukit Bintang.

There's a second hand Cadeson drum set at Amcop Mall basement. Retailing at below RM2k.
Attached Image

DW, PDP and Gretsch at JS Music Jln Imbi

Stagg and Sonor at Ultimate Music Jln Imbi

Mapex at Mahogany Music in SS2, PJ

Pearl and Premier at Ikano Power Centre top floor. Can't remember the name of the place.

Dixon Drums at Drumstore in Paradigm Mall PJ [Kelana Jaya]. They also have a Roland electronic drum set on display.

Music Master has a two sets of drums stacked up and a PDP Z5 in a box. Most probably for delivery.

Burgercis has electronic drums @ 7th floor Berjaya Times Square.

And there's a number of places online which you can search for drums.

Searching/auditioning/deciding for Cymbals is much more difficult. tongue.gif

Hope this helps if anyone wants to do some shopping for drums. And Merry Christmas everyone!!! smile.gif

I think good sound engineers look for good players as well. Otherwise it would be a nightmare for the sound engineers tongue.gif LOL

Beautiful drums. How do they sound?
*
Yeah, they seriously look nice. The handphone photo doesn't do them justice.

I don't really know how to describe the way they sound ... but they sound really nice.
My wife described it as Warm and LOUD tongue.gif
We muffled the Bass Drum with the supplied pillow and in addition we added a blanket. + a SoundOff muffler thingy on the batter head.

Here's a same set from youtube.

Added on December 28, 2012, 6:37 pmAnd I have heard a set with evans head ... it sounds even better.

We did try ... See the curtains to the right of the drum set? It rattled the windows !! blink.gif
Then we opened the Bass Drum and added the pillow and the SoundOff muffler. ... It was still loud.
Then we decided to add the blanket sweat.gif

I made a mistake ... it was a Grestch Renown set. The Kick is awesome. There's a set on display at JS Music. The Satin Black finish is quite a looker too.
