Is there such a thing in football using toss coin to decide whos the winner?
my team went to play a tournament call Piala Dato R.Arumugam organized by Selangor FA at SUK today. first match won 1-0, second match drew 1-1, penalty 3-3, then referee decide the winner by tossing coin. I was shocked, in my entire life i never heard b4 winner decided by tossing coin.....

I thought the normal procedure is keep taking penalty until someone miss? I have seen one match where the penalty each team take goes on until the Gk.... 11th kick to decide the winner....

If I'm not mistaken, the official rule states that in the event of a stalemate but a winner needs to be declared... Both teams will take the penalty kick. At first 5 players from each team. If still draw, continue penalty kick until all 22 players have taken the penalty kick. If still draw, only then the winner should decided by a coin toss. But I've never heard/seen/read this (the coin toss) being implemented in real life.

Happened once in my university. They we're playing full 90 minutes, and then move on to 2 extra time. By the time they play the penalty shootout, its already 7pm, so its getting dark. Also, the drizzling rain was turning into a heavy downpour. In the end, the winner was decided by a coin toss.

Historically there have been alot of instances. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penalty_shoot...ation_football) under "alternatives" it is one of the reason ppl come up with alternatives to decide a match objectively. in knock-out stages, where winners have to be decided one way or another, then last (not preferred of cos) method would obviously be by chance eg coin toss. http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Tie_%28draw%29 Added on December 19, 2011, 8:11 pmQUOTE(FLampard @ Dec 18 2011, 07:33 PM) Is there such a thing in football using toss coin to decide whos the winner? my team went to play a tournament call Piala Dato R.Arumugam organized by Selangor FA at SUK today. first match won 1-0, second match drew 1-1, penalty 3-3, then referee decide the winner by tossing coin. probably happen in carnival -oriented tournament. heavy rain, no time to proceed the final, etc.
if im the organizer, i divide the prize equally to both finalist. if its involving (small individual) trophies, i /sponsor keep it for next year, or both sides share the (big /sponsored) trophy for equal duration.. declare both teams are joint -winner..

If i remember correctly, the toss coin method does valid in certain major tournaments.
As for your case, perhaps you might want to look back at the T&C stated for the tournament. I take it that the tournament is sanctioned by FAS and therefore, T&C is made clear to all participants.
Sorry to hear about your loss by toss of coin though.

QUOTE(jam_lennon @ Dec 20 2011, 09:24 PM) what if 1 of the team have lesser on field player? Good question. I donno the answer. Maybe the team with lesser field players lose automatically... Hahaha. Reason, more player(s) sent off, hence poorer fairplay.
