Yup. Should have announced during LIMA 2011, but postponed coz not enough money..

hmm...seems legit..no wonder they promote kaw2 in LIMA recently...maybe they urgently need a foreign cash-cow to support their r&d..easy money i shud say...

Scrap the 4.5th gen fighter and welcome the future F-35. With the hefty price tag on both the EF Typhoon and Rafale, it makes more sense to purchase the inevitable future proof JSF.

With Japan moving in the F-35 group cycle, the economy of scale for the F-35 should be reduce significantly. We can place our order when money is made available in 2015. For the interim measure, trade those Migs for more Sukhois and split them into 2 squadrons.

the main contender before the the counter of BAE with T3+EADS+Parts manufacture locally+business deals+etc!

We still can trust them for now.
anyway we don't have to worry about embargo since they ensure us most of the maintenance stuff we can made it locally. "these is the parts that made me very interested with rafale. there will be no worries about embargo"

I still doubtful about F-35 performance.

Anyway if government want to go for F-35. not bad also. since the room for improvement in the F-35 is quite huge as well.

how many we need E2D to cover whole country? issit 1 is enough?

whole country would at least need "minimum 8units".
4units on standby another 4 on duty.
AEW&C can cover up to 400km IINM.
2 on duties 2 on standby for peninsular; 1 on duties 1 on standby for sabah; 1 on duties for serawak, IMO

4 is good while 8 is a bonus.

1 E2D is enough to cover the whole peninsular including SG, some part of Indon and Thailand



a pal of mine in C41SR says sometime they can detect the scanning beam of SG AEW until North or Malaysia.

That shows how powerful an AEW is!

I dun think the charlie going to replace anytime soon at least not until we received our A400M.
They will went through some upgrade though.

A400 project is going on schedule!

not to forget if we have E2D we also need another squadron as a escort, with current fighters i think it aint enough. another question does TUDM have BVR missiles in reserved for MKM?
