It's very unlikely. The screen size of the tablet is not an issue as PSP and NDS had a much smaller screen size than tablet.
Games on the tablet are not as feature rich packed as the games on handheld system. Having that being said, handheld games typically last longer and the titles are more widely known. Hardware wise, touch gaming might turned down hardcore gamers as I believe they feels more contended if there is a feedback when pressing a button, which is not available on touch pad. In short, I believe tablet should serve its purpose as it should, which is a reading or entertainment device rather than a full fledge gaming device. Casual games is more like it. |

I don't see consoles & handhelds replace by tablet. I see it as next step in gaming evolution. Consoles & handhelds will be here to stay. But not sure how many varieties are still alive in the near future.

I'd say smartphones or portable devices like iPod Touch and iPads will replace dedicated handhelds for gaming, but not consoles.
It's just that time changes, and previously people switched from doing hardcore gaming on PC to consoles. It's just that it's more convenient, and they can always opt for computing on a far cheaper laptops (compared to gaming PC). The rise of netbooks and tablets (alongside consoles) tells us that. And transition from handheld console to smartphones has already started. Even the #1 nintendo guy admitted that iPhone and iPod Touch is a threat to them. It's just that the technology inside a handheld console isn't much different from a portable device. For tv consoles, they can have years of headstart on stuff like technologies and performance. But for handheld consoles, they are always fitted with the same technology (if not inferior) with the ones powering other portable devices. Price is a major factor too. The math of handheld console equals to tv console's price just doesn't work anymore. For TV consoles, the price is so low (subsidised) that it's just a fraction of a high-end gaming PC's pricetag. For handheld console, the price is much the same of a gaming-capable portable device. TV consoles gonna have their spot in living room for a very long time (being a media centre is crucial for their survival). But handhelds will go. Hey, the casual market for the Androids and iPeople's HUEG. Still, I don't see it replacing the console market, let alone handhelds for that matter. Games there are just too simple.

At least, in the Klang Valley (20Mbps UniFi, 30Mbps Maxis, 50Mbps Time). Though, quota will make it useless... Besides, game will only run at 1024x768 on iPad due to low-res screen. can they create a game like uncharted to be played on tablet? No, they cant. But they can do it psvita. That's the difference. Tablets and smartphone always cater for casual gamers, altho casual gamers does pretty much dominates the market share, but still core gamers owes prefer consoles and handhelds anytime, anyday. Android and iOS games are just meh... good to kill time, but there is no depth at all.

Tablets will NEVER replace consoles. period.
BUT... it might be part of the console in the future, like Nintendo's direction with the Wii U, part console, part tablet, with buttons and replacing the handhelds For hardcore gaming, I'll still go for my console, with HD graphics and surround sounds on big screen TV, which is the experience the tablets can never replace. and I hardly touch my handhelds nowadays, even the new gen of handhelds like 3DS/PSV doesn't interested me at all. As now I'm carrying a tablet most of the time, while doing my work on d go, it also act as my casual gaming device for few minutes of fun, unlike handhelds, there's hardly a "few minutes of fun" casual games, and i'll have to carry extra weight on top of my tablet for gaming? tablet wins oh yeah... to fix my button smashing crave? console is the answer |

if bandwith/jitter/lag is not a factor (yes, it always has been, and will be in many years to come), then gaming will just be on the cloud. then your consoles/handheld/tablets will all be "thin", meaning CHEAP. the future of everything digital, not only gaming, is on the cloud. is just the bandwith/jitter/lag issue we must eliminate for that too happen

Base on ur title, I dun think it will. Playing game is all about fun. The graphics on the tablets is still not as good as the pc or consoles. For example, the game - Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2012) is on PC, Xbox, PS3, Playbook, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad and Android tablets. I think the game in the handheld devices is rubbish. I play it with my pc, the effects, sound system and the graphics is so much better. The story line/matches in the pc version is longer than the ones in handheld devices. So, back to what I said earlier, playing games is all about fun with sound effects, real graphics and the feeling of holding the controllers or gamepad or joypad.

I dont think tablet-gaming would replace console or pc-gaming. Each is different. It adds to the variations in gaming, but to replace? Nah, never. I hate virtual buttons!
