thanks for the reply. so from your feedback i suppose rather than getting one of those good for beginners Dj-in-a-box set, its better to invest in the industry favoured SL1200 decks and a good mixer. so i suppose based on that a used setup will set me back for 4-5k the least. appreciate the help, now i have a firm budget in mind. i dont think i can even consider a brand new setup now, coz money is tight plus i think it will be hard to find dealers locally rite. so thanks again. any advise is welcome. hit me up if you guys have anything related for sale.

the cheapest most accepted direct drive turntable after SL1200 is the NUMARK TTX1 ..... it's abit plastic-ky .. but it will do the job ....
in australia it was 650Aussie dollars each .. about RM1900 each ...

not sure what's the retail price in m'sia but I can find  out for you if you want...
mixer wise, you want to get a scratch mixer, ... westokan got one 2nd hand for sale if you want ..
so a good set that will last you will still set you back at least 3.5K and above..
so start saving

to organise a gathering is easy ...
to get the place is hard ...
to get some to lend their equipment is even harder ...
and the people  .. depends how cooperative ..

my idea of gathering ...

- everyone that wants to come have to some how "register" .. no sudden suprise of "friends" visiting .... for security reasons ....
- all turntable user  must bring their own needlez and records and so on (*.. hard to find some1 to pinjam turntables )
- all CDJ user ... erm .. bring own CD? .. not sure what can wear off in CDJ
- all newbies that want to come have to refrain from wanting to just jump onto the set and try to "breaK" something
- all DJ must be willing to share knowledge with newbies
- no food or smoking at the *tables* / CDJ .... certainly no dirty or oily hands
- lastly ... everyone must enjoy themself ....

.. oh yea.. and I myself ... play NOISE ..

seriously, should i even consider getting one of those dj packages (numark battle pak, stanton djlab2)? from what i read, they are good for beginners but after a while users will just want an upgrade. so its probably better to invest in good decks which will last a long time rite? in that case, sl1200mk2 would be top choice(mk5 would be awesome but too pricey). however, if 1200 was taken out of the equation, what would be the next best thing to get? anything cheaper then 2nd hand 1200s which are worth a consideration? what about numark tt200/tt500/ttx, or stanton t80/t90/t120? is it possible to find 2nd hand units of them locally?

other questions for the sifus:
-what is the advantage of having a usb port on a mixer?
-straight vs S-shaped tone arm? (pros and cons)

@westokan: how good is the pioneer M5 mixer? (honestly)
and how come its stussy edition? did you buy a pioneer X stussy set package?

i was quoted RM1.9k for a numark battle pak, and roughly RM2.3k for stanton DJLab2. for entry level decks, i guess they are priced rather high over here, considering in the states these 2 only go for RM1.2k. so therefore i dont plan to buy these packages brand new, and the only way i would buy them is if someone was selling a used set for CHEAP. so now its time to save up for the 1200s. what is the market price for a used unit in KL now? is it possible to get one for below 1k?

btw, any of you got any vids of your own mixing/scratching/beat juggling? would love to see the works of LYN killer DJs..

first of all you cannot compare with the US .. the reason why it's cheaper there is because the demand are higher hence the price is much lower..
places like in Malaysia... all electronic goods are expensive ..... and it's extra expensive if it's DJ related gears ...
it's possible to get 1K and below (*according to westokan*) but it will be like looking for a needle in the hay sack .. so good luck ...good bargain are hard to come by but it's not impossible ..

hey i got this from another forum. well from what i understand, he has a regular numark battle pak, and he changed his mixer to the same model which has an added USB feature. so when he says "so dunid use CDJ/vinyls currently, direct play songs from computer" does this mean he can directly scratch and mix songs stored in his PC thru his decks? is this possible? he will need a time-coded vinyl rite? if thats the case, then whats the use of scratch live,torq etc? if thats all we need then why not just get a mixer with a usb port, instead of spending on vinyl emulation stuff? or am i missing something here?    sorry if this is dumb. but you wont learn if you dont ask.

one more noob question, what does it mean when one says mixer equalizers suffer bleeding?

coz i just discover that timecoded cd will never work with 'ahem' copy of virtual dj....luckily it was a cheap noob setup. but i think that buying maya 44 usb now is a waste of my rm500 & time 

either i lelong the maya 44 usb, or looked for used original dvs system with timecoded cds or buy the virtual dj software itself from their website & still get the maya 44 usb to good use...

for scratching use vinyls with sl1200 or sl1210 with m44-7 carts for almost skipless vinyl manipulation.

cdj800 and 1000mk2 & 3 is okay with scratches but i think vinyls is better.

i realise you all here so rich... got cdj800 and 1000 the new 400 and all the fancy gear... not like me.. no $$

anyway any1 here familliar with the usage of sequencer with midi controller more like mixing and tweaking preset tracks using ableton live and does anyone uses the trigger finger or a midi controller cum mixer like the korg zero series or the djm800 or a&h zone 3d?

btw, do you guys have mixes uploaded to the internet which i can listen to? be it turntablism or edm mixes? or be it in youtube form or downloaded form...

it's not rich .. just that we can afford ... or willing to save just to get good gears

i took almost 3 years to complete my set .....
