hmm, I want to get some hands-on lesson with Djing ; I'm an animator and I really want to include Djing and making my own tunes for my portfolio in the future so let's say I want to learn but I don't want to spend 3k+/- on gears yet since I'm still totally new to this, where would you guys recommend... preferably somewhere near Sunway.

I tried a few sources already, but they are either quite far or just not free..

much appreciation  notworthy.gif

yea, I know about this guy as well ; thx for sharing, let's say if I'm taking the self-taught approach here ; what gear would you advice I get as a beginner? thx  notworthy.gif
*
you probably don't need turntables and mixer etc because you are looking to making own tracks etc
so i would recomended that you start off with music production software etc.
if you want to make music/beat etc .. go for audio editing software like Fruityloop,CoolEdit ..then you can arrange your sounds beats .. to make music

yea, Im currently learning how to use Cubase. Mind telling me what you do with your whole gear ? Aside from performing, isn't it sound manipulation you guys are messing with?

thx  notworthy.gif
*
as for me
i'm just making noise .. lol i don't make music
yes .. sound manipulation .... scratching etc ...
but depends what you want to produce..if you want to produce music .. means you have to arrange your sound/beat according to bar

how i was started was with one lousy mixer and two laptop .. running illegal software ... mixing ..
i first started to do beat matching ... as in same beat but not same bar ..
then i went on to learn to count bars with the beats..
so eventually i moved on to one lousy turntables and one lousy mixer ..
.... cut story short.. i finally got my proper setup after 2 years ++ smile.gif

my gears as in my signature

cool, mind sharing some of your tunes? Interested in the genre you mix out.  drool.gif
*
as i said i don't make music
i just make noise and alot of scratching
since i came back from australia i'm unable to set up my set in my own place ..
so not much happening... never really have a proper chance to do proper mixing ..
and i suck at scratching.. so i don't bother to do any recording yet ..

Im very interested in mixing songs. Where can I learn how to mix? Is there any school or academy somewhere in PJ?

Oh well. Basically, I don't know anything. Care to guide me? =.=''

How much are the equipments for mixing songs? Looking foward into it.
*
first of all .. learn the theories behind mixing .... beat matching, bar counting ....understanding song structure
go to youtube.com and look for DJ TUTOR ... he got over 1000+ videos..
and then once you got your theory, try using software to learn first...
hardware will come later when you think you got the theories right and would like to proceed...

depending on your budget and your style of mixing ...
hip-hop/rnb .. .you would want a hardware with vinyl control
other type of genre .... any job/vinyl hardware.. don't really matter as long as you can slow and speed up music ..

Added on April 11, 2008, 4:24 pmi just got words about IDJ2 from numark.
do your mixing straight out of an ipod or even USB thumbdrive
price about 2.5K-ish ... about 1 turntable price only..
very cheap indeed.

if any1 interested, please contact SMX at Berjaya Times Square on the 7th Floor for info
http://www.numark.com/idj2

anyone can answe me 1 question ? is there any way to connect my computer speaker with my mixer ( DJM600 )  without using any amp ?
*
if your computer speakers are powered by itself ... you can
powered speakers means those that need power plug to power the speakers
then you might need a RCA(red/white) cable to 3.5MM jack (earphone jack) ... depending on your speaker's jack
it might be RCA(red/white) at the back of your speakers/woofer .. so you need RCA to RCA

QUOTE
No u cant. Dj mixer has only inputs and outputs! It doesnt have a build in amp or pre amp. Mixer is just like a middle man. It needs the source, and the output. Its just like a translator and controller smile.gif Hope this helps.

how do you know for sure u can't ? unless it's not powered ... then maybe.. but still i'm sure u will hear "something" from the speakers but probably not loud enough

i think is okay for the price maybe ?

cuz the mixer is quite new and the shop owner give me 1 year warranty by him , all fader knobs are new , ofcourse i trust him cause i know him well , for the CDJ400 it cost about Rm1.9k each ...... i m trying to use 2 pair of Logitech X230 speakers ?

Added on April 17, 2008, 9:48 pm@deejay_krish

hey bullshit dude..... MKII now 5k per pcs everyone wants it
*
from what i can see from your speaker's instruction manual, your speakers has a hard wired 3.5MM jack for you to plug into your computer
if you want to use your speakers with your DJ setup , you will need these cable to convert that 3.5MM into 2 RCA
/http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1643821.

then you can plug into your main output of your mixer .. into your speakers

thx dude....... i m referring to this ....... does the sound will not so high ?
*
it's a powered speaker
it will go as high as your computer's sound ..
but do not output your mixer till it's in the RED ZONE ..
keep at just touching red ...

you can put full volume on your speakers .. but control it with your mixer ..
of cuz .. all speaker has their limit, don't blow it
