good win today. drogba is good, juan mata MOTM as usual
sturridge is harassing their defense all the time but imo, he is a bit selfish sometimes. nevertheless, he deserved that goal after so many tries.

lastly, thank you alex and anelka for contributing all these while..good bye

I prefer Iva on the right side but I think it wont happen because of Luiz yellow card..
Juz afraid that Bosigwa will go forward too much.

Yup, especially CB. Bruma already said he don't want to return to Chelsea from loan just to warm bench.

Somehow, the more I watch Gary Cahill play, the more lousy I see he is. Don't know why he's linked to so many big clubs.

lol, AVB's words.
“David is the No.1 central defender for Brazil and they have six world championship titles so I think he will be one of the best central defenders in the world and in two years’ time he will be nominated for the best football defender in the world. I have that much confidence in them.”

Alex gonna leave, and Luiz is actually very good bar a few concentration lapse.

Don't listen to media and commentators too much, they'll make you think Luiz is worse than Malaysia League standard.

When Luiz go on a bombarding forward run, they'll say Luiz is mad. But when Man utd's Phil Jones does the same, they praise him as though he's the best defender on earth.

I really like Luiz. I like it when he does his forwards runs if there's someone like Iva covering him. He just need to get his head straight and have strong mentality like Terry. Luiz-Terry is still the best center back combo for us.

Yup. Luiz-Terry our best combo now if Ivanovic covers for Luiz when he attacks.

Wonder all the pundits who say Luiz should be DM got watch Chelsea play before or not?
If you watch Chelsea play, we all know our DM never goes forward and always covers for attacking CB like Terry or Luiz.
If Luiz becomes DM, then his attacking capabilities will be further limited.

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has rapped Andre Villas-Boas for trying to change too much too soon.

Out of the Carling Cup, way off the Premier League title pace and with Champions League qualification on a knife-edge, the pressure is mounting on AVB.

And Burley is angry with the Chelsea boss for what he believes is a constant shuffling of the side’s attack – and mistakes in setting up how the team defends.

Burley told the Daily Star Sunday: “The manager has to make a decision with regards to his strikers. He has to go with one of them. He can’t keep changing.

“Why does he have to give Drogba a run in the side? The manager can do what he wants. Villas-Boas needs to do what’s right for him.

“That doesn’t mean having to play someone because he is Didier Drogba, John Terry, Frank Lampard or anybody else.”

drogba should start every game. during 25-30 minutes remaining, sub him with torres. at that moment, opposition's defence must be quite tired. torres can make some trouble with his pace...

Chelsea will play at home against Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup. The tie is to be played the weekend of 7 and 8 January.

The tie, which is a repeat of the 2010 FA Cup Final, is to be played the weekend of 7 and 8 January.

later when your so-called best eleven doesn't perform you'll blame him for not giving chance to others and youngsters pulak.

stop asking what he should and should not do. believe our manager, believe the players and believe Chelsea.

Hulk is an incredible player, but I don't think we will spend the money to buy him. Sturridge is offering some Hulk's capabilities, AVB said that too.
We need a RB/CB and a left wing. Mata can play as playmarker role in the middle with a new left wing running down the left side.

AVB didn't choose Drogba because he's Drogba, Drogba is chosen because he is the better striker for AVB's formation.

Read the news about Anelka & Alex leaving chelsea..... a bit shocked on AVB leaving them on training and barring them from entering the training facilities.... cant blame AVB on that one.... since he have to protect his 1st team mindset & mentality....

anyway, thank you Anelka & Alex for your contribution......

P/S: to Alex, ur stunning strike against Liverpool and Arsenal will always be remembered....

Agree with your first part, but I wouldn't say Torres doesn't fit in AVB formation.
Clearly,Drogba is a better player than Torres at the moment.
I would love to see Drogba to start more games. If we're given a choice, I would like to see us keeping Drogba at least for this season.
Drogba is a player who can offer, it's not just about scoring for him, it's about the contribution for the team.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying Torres is a player that can't offer, but his contribution is clearly lesser than Drogba. They are different player.

Drogba can't start every games, he's old now. But, when we got our team settled, then we can start Torres. I can see we're delivering some through ball for torres to run against Newcastle. This is what Torres need. In next few games, or in february when we're done with our shopping, Torres should be back. Believe in AVB, believe in Chelsea.

Added on December 5, 2011, 11:44 amOh,no one here mentioned about Lampard? Honestly, I wasn't happy to see Lampard fuming on the bench. You had a bad second half, you're subbed off, you must respect the manager.
What are your thoughts guys?

Drogba is a legend for Chelsea.. it's a sad news he leave soon~

Anelka maybe he got not much of playing time so he have to leave, but i hope Alex can be here as he can always change formation with Luiz..

i like where this is going. slowly, the older players are going to leave and there is more youth in the team.

i think AVB is building a solid foundation and it takes time, he's been with the club for not over a year and we're not Porto, no disrespect. he also has brought in some exciting players like Mata, Romeu and Luiz.

i believe in what AVB is doing, he is a very intelligent manager and he has the trophies to back him up, recent trophies. who are you to say he doesnt know what his best 11 is, what he is doing. im already satisfied if we can get top 3 in the league this season and win the FA cup.

would u rather not win the league this season and 3 in a row in coming seasons! lol.

Always believe in your manager. I believe when AVB just took over Porto, most would had said he was stupid for let Raul Meireles leave porto. But he delivered for them a treble.

Can't wait for Valencia game. smile.gif

"Contrary to reports elsewhere, Chelsea are not guaranteed to qualify with a 0-0 draw. If Leverkusen lose in Belgium then Chelsea would be eliminated with any draw, including 0-0."

That means if Leverkusen lose to Genk and we draw 0-0, we will not be going into knock out stages. Oh god..please let it be a win this Wednesday morning.. believe in AVB

+1 for DROGBA flex.gif time and time he have been bench in favor of another striker, although age is catching up but he has not stop proving to CHELSEA fans he is still the best striker we got now thumbup.gif

But worry not ANC coming, TORRES will have a whole month of games to prove himself, i will be real disappointed if LUKAKU outperform him and get the starting line up.

later when your so-called best eleven doesn't perform you'll blame him for not giving chance to others and youngsters pulak.

It's impossible that all the chosen eleventh were rubbish all and at the same time eh? We need consistency and by rotating players, it's hard to get a consistent result week in and week out unless it's for strategy agenda. Did you call up Ranieri? I bet he still do that rotation thang at Inter eh? brows.gif

Actually, AVB don't even rotate much. If you look at his selections, only two spot is not fixed.

----Cech-----
Iva--Luiz--Terry--Cole
--Romeu/Mikel---
Ramires--Lampard/Meireles
Danny--Drogba--Mata

Only our holding midfielder and 2nd midfielder constantly change.

As for Forward, Drogba's clearly number 1. No doubt judging from AVB's action.

I know we all want Torres to regain his form by playing a lot, but can you blame AVB for not choosing Torres?
Torres not even performing well, and if he doesn't, us fans will starting calling for AVB's head when we don't win.
I don't think that's a risk worth taking.

Yup, especially CB. Bruma already said he don't want to return to Chelsea from loan just to warm bench.

Somehow, the more I watch Gary Cahill play, the more lousy I see he is. Don't know why he's linked to so many big clubs.

im sick of it. torres got to buck up and start giving back what the club had paid for him

we seriously need a striker who can score when drogba leaves. and for god sake how many times do i have to point out some bloody wingers!!

From now on, I want AVB to start Drogba, then we maybe around 70minutes on,especially when opponent is looking for a goal, they're going to leave a big space behind the defense. That's the time to unleash Torres. We have seen this against Newcastle. This enable Torres to score easier and might be the KEY to build his confidence again. But of course, if the opponent still keep their defense tight, no point subbing Torres in for Drogba.

Say it in a simpler way, we need to look for the RIGHT TIME to play Torres.

I'm very sure AVB just subbed out Drogba because he too tired to press enemy defense already, not to exploit tired defence.

Yes, that's one of the reason. But what I meant just now is, we should start finding the right time to play Torres so that we can build his confidence and his sharpness again.
With Torres current form, I don't think he can break any fresh defense, so subbing him in might be a better option.
Drogba is a good player if he can play 90 minutes ,but too bad, he can't. Subbing Torres in for Drogba every match is not a good thing, it became a definite sub, and the 3 subs eventually became 2 subs.

luiz have a bright future in chelsea, with a good decision-making if he really need to go for attacking and clear ball very well. but as a young player, he often made mistakes in keeping posession ( one of it cost us a loss to MUFC wink.gif ).

as for now, the only young lads that i see will give a great foundation for our club is david luiz and sturridge. but before that, they need to learn from their seniors.

Alamak... Kalou lah. Our super sub (hee) gogo 0-2!
*
haha super-sub indeed! i think sooner or later kalou has to accept that this is his best role. judging by the lack of a transfer request, i'd like to think he has. salomon made quite an impact with a neat defence splitting pass and a goal. studge must've been a little miffed as he tried to break krul down with countless shots, and kalou nonchalantly puts one in with his first on target. priceless. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(SlomoX @ Dec 3 2011, 10:38 PM)

Anyway crossbar really in form today  laugh.gif

MOTM was a close fight between mata and the crossbar. i'm leaning slightly towards the crossbar on this one. laugh.gif

QUOTE(HumbleCMY @ Dec 3 2011, 10:45 PM)
Perhaps lucky abit that Luiz wasn't sent off (albeit Ba was offside), and that Colocinni injured.

But good job to the team for such a good performance. Great job kalou, I knew he was good enough for us.

Now I get why AVB use Torres as sub, when enemy tired, then we play a few long passes for Torres to chase. biggrin.gif

Good game to Newcastle, Tim Krul was a really good keeper, no wonder 1-1 with Man Utd.

Anyways, JT most definitely man of the match.
*
thank you for pointing that out! he was offside, and any linesman with a good eye would have put up his flag and luiz shouldn't even be booked. how convenient for alan pardew to leave that part out rolleyes.gif i think after that luiz had another bad mistake where demba ba barged him off the ball, but from then on he was very good. not as good JT on the night, but still very good.

Studge got the goal he richly deserved, and AVB's plan to turn him into the hulk seems to be working. He was thorn in newcastle's side for 90 mins and if not for krul, could've bagged a hattrick. Such a tantalising performance by the lads vs newcastle, and i was most impressed by their confidence in attack and in possession. Yes the defence looked a bit shaky at times, but a cleansheet at st.james is by no means easy. Remember this is the team which snatched a point from old trafford.

If we took all our chances it could so easily have been five or six and anybody who watched the game would know it wasn't a scoreline that flattered us. Although we're out of the carling cup which is such a shame for our youngsters (haih kesian josh), for me this result makes up for it and will have a huge impact on where we finish this season. Meanwhile, all the best to nico and alex at their future clubs. They've contributed a lot and their time at chelsea will be remembered fondly.

p. s: to a certain extent i agree with jovi, it would be good if AVB settles on a starting line-up, particularly upfront. but u can see he's managing torres carefully now, and the way our spaniard celebrated his assist for kalou fills me with optimism, because it shows deep down he knows its about the TEAM performance. when u have that mentality, half the battle is already won. apart from that i didn't like how lampsy reacted after being subbed.

Alan Pardew is a moron, when his team is in the good end of decisions, you never see him complaining. we were the better team on that day and we won. its too bad his defender got injured and we capitalize on that to make the scoreline worse for them.

what Torres needs is players that plays to his style and provides him the assist he needs. the african gang in Chelsea is definitely not cooperating.

and to be honest, another thing lacking compared to the old Chelsea is our talisman, Frank Lampard. the 20 goals a season he contributes is gone and its a huge blow to alot of our title chase. i used to remember everytime we needed a goal to win, sooner or later, Frankie is gonna give it, the superman headers, the well timed runs, the 30 yard curlers, the ever reliable penalties and the free kicks.

LOL what that have to do with the african gang ? When TORRES on, DROGBA does not start, KALOU rarely play, MIKEL is a DM, ESSIEN is injured. Stop defending TORRES blindly, he need to adjust to how AVB want him to play, you dont buy a 50m striker that require to buy another 100m worth of player to suit him. So far we already bought MATA and MEIRELES combine worth around 40m, yet TORRES still sit on the bench. Dont come telling when TORRES start MATA and MEIRELES does not start, that why he cannot score or perform. They have countless of training together, i believe AVB definitely see a lot better than us.

Kinda nervous for tonite "do-or-die" match!!!! Hopefully ChelseaFC prevail....

P/S:- knock out or not, in AVB we trust!!!!
*
indeed bro. i'm really worry since our defense keep leaking goals especially in UCL.

For much safer option, we can put Ivanovic partnering JT while Fereira deployed on the RB. he definitely not giving much service to attack, but very reliable at the back.

but, my intuition says AVB will choose the same back four from the previous game.

pretty sure that AVB will deploy the same formation as NU game since we have the habit to give away silly goals in UCL. But that going to put pressure on both our makeshift winger as they have to work twice as hard covering what has been left by our fullbacks.

Hope Oreo get a start ahead of Mikel, since he provide more option (tho sometimes prone to mistake as well) than Mikel.

*
im not blindly siding Torres but he will be our main striker when Drogs leave. would i call Torres a Chelsea legend? no. Would i call Drogba a Chelsea legend? yes. but unfortunately Drogs isnt going to hang around for very long but Torres is.

but its so friggin obvious that the players around Torres are not helping him when they are playing together. Look at Kalou, he scores from a Torres assist and what does he do? he goes off to the other side to celebrate. you dont see Mata doing that after getting an assist from Ashley.

i memang dont agree buying 50m strikers but buy already what to do, obviously have to get in a few players to complement him. or would u rather sell him and get a cheaper striker, we're obviously gonna lose more money selling him and buying new players.

I guess who want celebrate how is their problem. Even the great Balotelli / Wayne Rooney run off alone and celebrate in front of crowd.

Btw, since this weekend no Luiz, if Iva something happen( hopefully no), then we have no central defender right? Alex not training with first team.

Hope nothing happen in dressing room because how the team celebrate when TORRES score his first goal still deep in my mind, everyone rush to celebrate with him like we won UCL biggrin.gif

Seem like a new striker and right back coming soon, coz i am not too sure whether IVA is happy playing at the right all the time. But touchwood is something happen, we got FERREIRA to makeshift (that time we will all be glad he is still around instead of selling him just because he is old), CAHLOBAH from reserve ? even DROGBA if we run out of subs. They all have done it before in the past to help the team in dire times, oh not forgotten the injured ESSIEN.

Adding on to the Kalou seeming to celebrate solo thing, i do think our team need to have more unity. We dont know how it is in the dressing rooms but they dont seems to have very strong bonds with one another besides during goal celebrations. Like before the kickoff of the Newcastle game, i saw the newcastle players circled around, and the captain was giving a motivation speech. in conclusion, If we want to play like Barca, we have act like Barca. biggrin.gif just sayin

lol.. u like those African very much? racist ah? stop defending them blindly also. Kalou doesnt not play well with Torres is a fact, even malouda doesnt seem to help Torres much, but he is not African tho.

Training =/= real match, that why it is call training. i believe the so call 'African' will want to prove themselves worthy compare with Torres, sometime when you try so hard to prove yourself, you will be selfish, you wanted to get shot on goal, you wanted to out perform others, everyone is playing for their future, no one want to be outcast, it is understandable.

Clearly you cannot read, i am just stating the fact that they rarely play along TORRES that warrant they are not helping. The main player will be LAMP, MEIRELES, RAMIRES, STUR, MATA, MALOUDA and there are no african, so the accuse is uncall for, defend blindly ? doh.gif If you want to blame those starting eleven for not supplying enuff for TORRES go ahead but i guess even a team with XAVI, FAB, INIESTA, SILVA, MATA are not supplying enuff also. For me clearly is down to TORRES to adept AVB plan.

To a manager training are equally important or even more than actual matches, in training is the only way manager can convey his message, tactics and formation. You work on a tactic for next match, so you pick the best eleven that work well with your tactics. On the match itself will be too late and there is nothing much a manager can do by shouting at the sideline. All the hard work you see on match day comes from training. With exception if the player is on form, like STUR banging goal which is a gamble every manager willing to take to put him on starting like up but clearly TORRES is not on that form.

Superb first half 2-0 win against a well organized team.
I love how Danny, Ramires and mata combined during counter attack, very effective. Drogba is doing what he was doing for years in Chelsea. Very good.
Luiz is using his speed to make interceptions and headers, with Terry alongside, they looked comfortable.

If not only looking at Mcy match in this weekend, I wouldn't take out anyone. Everyone is having a good match.

anyway, i think sturridge is a bit selfish imo.. he might be banging goals and is our current top scorer, but when the angle is too tight, no point shooting towards the goal. it's better to pass..

Oh, just brilliant performance. Brilliant. Attack well, then defend enthusiastically.

I love the team spirit, the managers and the staffs. With a look at the bench, don't you think the spirit is fantastic? Youthful, cheerful and ambitious staffs. They look like a team, just like what AVB said, The Group One, instead The Special One. As some of you guys mentioned, with an addition of hot girl too tongue.gif

Oh well, back to football. SO, WE WON THE GROUP E! TOP SPOT. Great confidence boost for the team to face City in the weekend.
Drogba is fantastic, 2 goals scored, assisted 1.You can't ask more than that. The stadium's fan are doing their job well, giving great atmosphere and I love the feeling when Drogba was subbed off. I hope this man can stay.

I was streaming and Gary Nevile was the commentator. I was surprised that he loves David Luiz! Yes, our pastor Luiz! There were some wise words from United ex-captain. Luiz was doing his job well today, going forward at the right time, making right decisions, good defensive skills. Our defense looks solid today.

Three consecutive 3-0 win is just fantastic. Well done Chelsea!

the most solid defense display ever since AVB was in charge.

very effective infront of goal by both providers and strikers.

Danny needs to learn to square the ball when the angle gets too tight.

Missed the 1st half action.... i overslept.... anyway, congrats to our Blue Army marching towards the knockout stage.... plus topping Group E.... Our lads can concentrate on this weekend match, against Citeh!!!

Not surprise with the exclusion of Lampard though... well, he have to admit that he is not young anymore.... and he have to know, WHO'S THE BOSS.... come on Franky, give ur "junior" mates a chance to shine.... playing or not, u already a Living Legend to all of us....

To D-Drogba.... just 1 more goal, and u will have ur 150th goal for Chelsea in all competition....

Whatever the result this season, i hope RA will give AVB a chance in rebuilding the squad.... its not an easy task in replacing the "Old Guard" that has established their reputation since the glorious "Special One" era.... and i think its the right thing to do for AVB in reducing the influence among the senior player that might disrupt the harmony of the dressing room and even questioned the decision of AVB...

Remember guys.... Rome doesn't build in one day.... this is the 2nd rebuilding for CFC.... i hope to see a youthful squad for the Blues Army next season.... with the current youngster that we have (Josh, Lukaku, Bertrand, Kakuta, Van Annholt, Sam Hutchinson, Bruma (if this fellow want to remain at SB lah), and off course Cortouis (i hope i got it right).... we can challenge or even conquer Europe in years to come!!!!!

All i can say..... In AVB we Trust!!!!

Our form is looking good at the moment.
We were pretty much flawless today.
The whole team is under immense pressure and i think it was down to the mentality of the players that we were able to secure the win.

Onward to our next match, City at home.

All i can say is..this is the best defensive game from AVB so far..even our Luiz never bombard forward as he like..but of course, he was extremely solid together with JT, plus few world class saves from cech. thumbs up for the team smile.gif

One point to highlight is Romeu mobility. He was really solid for previous games, winning the ball early, distributed ball well with either foot. Cant wait to see him create a formidable partner in the middle with Josh. He was unfortunate for the yellow card last night. That to me was a clean tackle.

I hope he will not go back to Barca next season. cry.gif cry.gif

Is really Torres get the same through ball as Drogba get last nite? If yes, im sure he also can score form that situation. Combination of mata, meireless, sturidge suit well with Torres, but Torres never get a chances to play when this combo play together.

i dont get it why u guys still defending torres.

if he did well in training for sure AVB will start him.
what, now AVB suddenly chose drogba over torres because he is simply drogba? come on. the gaffer mustve been analyzing their training level, plus how well the player can make himseld comfortable with the boss's tactics.

its been a season and a half and he still cant settled in? that is a load of crap

you'll never know actually... after drogba left whos gonna fill his void if not torres?
lukaku? hes too inexperienced i might say
sturridge? hes best suited as a second striker not a target man (like hes been playing in bolton, if he plays in drogs position he would be like torres as well - blanks, like recent games when he played central role)
kalou? hes never been performing when he start a game didnt he

nvm the rest where they're just inexperience enuf to fill drogs shoes

some may take longer to adapt to a new team.

Pretty solid performance from chelsea last 4 matches, score 10 goals and conceded only once.. it time for next monday BLUES Shut Down...

A win against Man City will definitely solidified chelsea confident...

Pretty surprise that just after newscastle match, drobgra return in significant form. Just wish that drogbra continue the very good form until African Cup..

Nevertheless, David Luiz did improvement on his movement, discipline and positioning. Some how we saw 2 sided of Luiz. Good partnership with Terry, and another side is technical and skillful attacking ability.. It look like paradox. We want solid defence in the first place. As a fan we as well wish to see attacking football Luiz brought us last season against both manchester team.

From the beginning of the season.. Torres was preferred until 3 matches ban and afterward drogbra ban. hopefully both striker able to provide good cover for the team when each or another one unavailable. Im abit worried on January.. will Torres stand up when drobgra on national duty? Perhaps, AVB already have a striker list from transfer market.

And at last KTBFFH!

you think torres is the coach's choice?
its abramovich's. i wouldnt be surprised if he is being sold by next season or next year's january.

and just how many more season will he only be able to settle in?
admit it, he's just another flop just like sheva
even if he scores, i wont say "wow torres is finally showing his true form" and support him. he will never settle in and will not even be a consistent performer while he dons the blue shirt

sturridge is the man to lead the spearhead, and he did ask for a central role as i recall
after drogba gone, i reckon he will play in that position left by drogba, until we find a replacement that is dangerous enough

nah, I guess if a player still plays for us, we should back them no matter what. Whether it's Kalou, Malouda, Torres, Ferreira or even Bosingwa.

Who knows, once injury strikes us, they could be our only option to rely on.

well that wasnt the case, it is normal for fans and even manager to have problems with players. did they got the backup? i dont think so, its just the problem is not made public or is being covered

and often i see malouda, bos, nico n kalou got their "warmest" back up here

Spot on. January windows is always a risky time to overhaul a team. I will only allow Anelka and Alex to leave our team. Kalou, Malouda, Drogba, Bosingwa should be useful for the season. At least as reliable backup.

Those who watched Valencia match, did valencia really keep the ball so much?, just saw the possession stat, Valencia's 69% to Chelsea's 31%

Now we must prepare for the most important part of the BPL season. 6 consecutive league games in 20 days. This is where we can make or break our title chances.

I'm sure AVB just used mind game on Valencia coach.

Before the game, he said he won't play counter attack, only focus on quality short passing possesion game.
Then when playing, Valencia must be expecting an offensive Chelsea instead of defensive one.

Btw, our round of 16 opponents :
Napoli, CSKA Moscow, Basel, Lyon, Marseille, Zenit St Petersburg, AC Milan.

Easiest would be Zenit or CSKA, but need to travel to Russia. Just hope we avoid Marseille or Napoli.

And AC Milan too, they're pretty strong.

AvB is like a mini-mourinho.. so if we progress to meet Real Madrid, it can go either way. LoL

AvB used to do the details for Mourinho, so AvB should understand Mourinho's style/tactics better than most managers? AvB to +1 over Mourinho if Chelsea clashes with Real Madrid happy.gif

LOL. definitely a slap in the face for the media. they keep talking about Chelsea's slim chances to get into the last 16 but and they are so optimistic that the manchester clubs will definitely proceed. if we start playing like how we did against Valencia, i think we will be able to get a string of wins.

Valencia might have loads of possession but they were around the center of the field. they werent very threatening compared to our counter attacks. maybe the early goal helped but our defense was definitely rock solid. if we can beat City in the league, that would be a huge confidence boost for the club.

Added on December 8, 2011, 12:17 pmthese are the teams that we might go up against.

CSKA Moscow, Zenit St Petersburg, AC Milan, Napoli, Marseille , Lyon, Basel.

who would you prefer we get?

LOL. definitely a slap in the face for the media. they keep talking about Chelsea's slim chances to get into the last 16 but and they are so optimistic that the manchester clubs will definitely proceed. if we start playing like how we did against Valencia, i think we will be able to get a string of wins.

*
i personally prefer milan. smile.gif

Napoli, Marseille and Lyon could be a bogey team.

CSKA, Zenit and Basel: i strongly believe we can win against these team.

sad to see both mancs team crash out. would love to see all 4 english teams in QF like few season ago. Both Mancs club will be focusing on league from now on i guess.

And AC Milan too, they're pretty strong.

Oh, interesting, did AVB say that? We played wonderful counter attack football against Valencia, one of the best for years.
Both Manchester went to Europa to bully small teams. laugh.gif
AVB>Mancini and Ferguson? Oh well  blush.gif
*
Yup, these are his words before Valencia game:

"You've seen us play enough to know that we always take the initiative,"

"We won't change our strategy. We want good quality possession football."

AC Milan ... hmm.gif If fight Milan, all we need to do is give ball to Robinho. He this season all sitters also miss like mad. brows.gif

so both manchester club not qualified for round of 16 ? oh well... doesnt really matter to me actually.. we should just focus on our beloved chelsea. furthermore, there are still strong teams out there like real madrid, barca, bayern, inter, milan etc. dun expect to get ucl trophy unless we beat one or two or even three of all these teams. ktbffh

top of the group and carefree!

so finally the high line is converted to a more conservative back four, and valencia as well as newcastle couldn't break through. what an efficient and controlled performance, with some frighteningly quick counter-attacking football! i'm telling u, the speed at which ramires, studge and mata cover the pitch would be enough to make any team think twice of going gung-ho against us. i feel this is the strategy we need to adopt vs city as well, and its good to see a manager who isn't too 'stubborn' in sticking to a formula which evidently lacks some key ingredients for it to work.

drogba was a beast, i'll give him that. he did the business when it mattered most, and don't forget the supporting cast was crucial in helping him dispatch those two goals. studge had less space to run into, but was still involved in most of our attacks and he supplied that pinpoint cross-field pass for mata that lead to our opener. oreo is another monster who has literally kicked mikel to the bench, and our young nigerian will need to show a different side to his game to usurp our new DM master. the key to oreo's brilliance lies in the speed and accuracy of his challenges imo, and who knew they taught u the art of tackling at La Masia! juan gave the assists when it mata'd (sorry couldn't resist tongue.gif ) and the rate of which he's adapted to our football is astounding. even city's silva wasn't this good as i recall in his first season, so if mata continues in the same vein, in theory he'll evolve into an even better player in the future!

our defensive line held it together even better than when we faced newcastle, and i do believe valencia are the better team. there were some nervy moments but overall AVB has shown he knows how to organise a solid defensive wall which suit the characteristics of our players. bring on the city slickers!

p. s: special thanks to genk for getting a draw vs leverkusen which enabled us to emerge group winners. who would've thought it eh? laugh.gif

the gaffer is spot on about the media singling us out for special treatment, and as both manchester giants crash out in the group stages of the CL its really satisfying to deliver a double, extra hard slap to all those chelsea-hating rags. as madfag pointed out they were so damn sure the ONLY club in trouble was us, and all utd and city needed to do was turn up. i for one am going to enjoy all those extra small headlines about the red devils dumped out of the easiest champions league group, and the extra large ones about how AVB will be sacked and chelsea thrown back into the dark ages if they fail to secure all 3 points vs city rolleyes.gif

They all have the confident n they deserve it.
Then after City, we can rotate the squad.

After city is Wigan then Spurs, if I remember clearly.

Wigan game hope our players don't complacent.

Too be honest, City game I just hope for the best, our record against strong teams this season isn't exactly marvelous. I just hope it's a positive performance, and hope for City to have some sort of European knock-out hangover.

Off topic a bit, I really pity Luis Suarez. He's just new to the EPL and already a bit unfairly abused as a cheater. Strikers going down easily is understandable, in fact, the only striker who doesn't fall over easily is Messi. I don't remember Drogba ( few years back) , Nani and Ronaldo getting as much stick as Suarez.

didier still gets derided for a tendency to 'overreact' in his first couple of years with us although he's cleaned up his act. unfortunately once players are labelled as such, there's no turning back really. usually the tag lasts for the rest of their careers. trust me, didier got just as much, if not more stick than the others.

oh. Guess Didier is experienced enough to understand referees in England won't give away soft penalties easily.

Erm, just asking, why is David Luiz suspended for Man City game?
Fantasy League showed he only have 4 yellow cards in league (Bolton, QPR,Liv,Newcastle), but suspended .

that one incident that's been forever etched in football blooper history, is the exchange with jens lehmann. as far as i remember, didier doesn't go down looking for penalties. he only tends to 'milk' things a little too much whenever there's a foul on him, in the past. don't tell that to rival fans though..they won't believe u tongue.gif

hmmm it looks like luiz has five then. the next best thing is terry and ivanovic? alex has been reaaaallyy error prone lately. hope city are tired from their champions league exertions. one thing's for sure, without the high line we look much, much more composed at the back. i wonder how long AVB is willing to drop this philosophy of his. hmm.gif

of course playing high line would be suicidal for slow players like terry...hes incredible when we defend deep thou... lots of hi balls get filtered out and smaller area for him to run and cover.... instantly we see his perfect positioning and good game sense(remember that goal line clearence?) ....i remember the newcastle match he gives man of the match worthy of performance in defense as well... i hope AVb maintain this.... defending deep has always been our hallmark defense.

i do believe that's what we're doing now. under carlo was their last hurrah, although the cracks were beginning to show. our evolution was always put on hold as the seniors continued to show flashes of brilliance that won us many points. thankfully, AVB has decided to stamp his identity on the team without being too drastic. maintaining the trust and respect of several senior figures such as terry and drogba has been key to this.

anelka has come out and publicly commented that he's accepted the manager's decision, so the journos are doing their normal make a mountain out of a molehill routine. it was all probably a mutual agreement, or else i'm sure nico would have some much harsher words for the boss.

you know that we are in trouble when one of our top scorer is a Centre Half... we should start scoring goals to win games.... I missed the days of Robben and Duff terrorizing the defense from left and right... Chelsea those time can score at will

I really like if we can bring a midfielder or a left wing. Preferable left wing so that Mata can play behind the striker. We got one of the best midfield in this world, I expect Mata to take Silva-like role in our team soon.
Kevin De Bryune should be a good buy under 15m, he on the left, Mata behind the striker. Sounds good.
I never watch Moutinho play before, but should fit AVB system pretty well.
I hope we can buy either Kevin De Bryune or Moutinho. Or modric? laugh.gif
David Luiz,Lampard will not leave for sure. Drogba should stay until the end of the season.
I really got no idea on centrebacks and right back, but we really need to buy at least one defender now. Right back should be better. Bruma should play first team football in very soon.

interesting list! i'd say the sensible ones would be de bruyne, ilicic and sergi roberto. one of them you missed is parma's giovinco. of course we're not going to get all of them at once this january, but one or two would be possible. my guess is de bruyne and maybe vargas to replace nico. my heart wants kakuta to come back and be the one to fill in for our departing frenchman, but considering AVB has spent little time with the youngster i'd say its unlikely.

Can't blame AVB for not using youngsters now, he can't risk youngsters not performing and getting the sack.

Btw, that Eduardo Vargas dude scored the only goal for Universidad Chile yesterday. I guess transfer talks should be shelved to next month.

This is a crucial month for us. Our seasonal blip usually happens in this month. Hopefully it's already over this season.

Found this on internet : I guess Gary Neville would have preferred to be in Manchester United's dressing room before having lost to Basel and getting eliminated from the Champions League.

AVB has launched a staunch defence of luiz and chelsea fc as whole. i'm picking up hints of a siege mentality being built, with an 'us against the rest' principle being formed around the group. there will be some serious backlash from the media after his comments, but i say SCREW THEM because we've never been favourites of all those biased journos so there's no reason to start now. it will serve to unite the team, and that's the most important thing.

*
agree about de Bruyne, he is very good left winger, really fast and quick. Only 5m, cheap and good

Just read from official site. AVB said Romeu can't be sold to Barca if Chelsea doesn't agree. Now no need to worry about him anymore.

Btw, to transfer talks. AVB just dispelled rumours about Modric, Perreira and Cahill, so that's 3 out of the list.

'The buy-back option states that Barcelona can only buy back if Chelsea are willing to sell,' clarified Villas-Boas

Then why is it still called 'buy back option' ?
Excellent great news!

I heard rumors about Martin Kelly, I watched him couples of games, he's a great player,a young RB(21 only!) that has lot of potential,I would even pay up to 12m for him. I love to see him joining our squad but Liverpool fans will be pissed again laugh.gif

If Chelsea WANTS to sell Oriol Romeu ( which won't happen), then if lets say 10 teams offer for him, Chelsea must prioritise Barcelona deal, even if they offer 5 million and lets say Man City offer 100 million.

I think that is the FIRST option not the BUY BACK, well is a contract, they can write anything they want as long both parties agreed on it. Glad to hear that we wont be force to sell him back for cheap after developing him but hopefully no FABREGAS dramas happen later.

great news on oreo and i'm sure he's a smart kid. he knows he won't just magically usurp busquets and mascherano, and we can assure him he'll be a big part of the future of CFC. by the time he's firmly locked down a first team position, the clause would have expired and we can put a 40 million price tag on him to ward off barca.

i really like the way AVB is handling the rumours. if its true none of them are chelsea targets, then its really going to be tough figuring out his plans. he might unearth (with the help of our scouts) another young gem like oreo with little competition from other clubs. the pato and robinho rumours are still interesting though. too bad the duck has glass legs and robinho has gone backwards since moving to milan imo.

anybody watched kakuta's cameo for bolton? i woke up in the middle of the night with the tv still on, and caught a glimpse of a fantastic dribble down the right which he made. missed the other minutes though tongue.gif

Of course, it's a bit lame that a manager say it in this way, 'when you score, come celebrate with me and the staffs'. It sounds awkward and weird.
Some motivation must come together so that it sounds better and so it can make senses. Something when the team is cheering up, building some confidence, and spirit, then the manager will speak out the suggestion and the players who have high spirit will agree with him.

Thanks HumbleCMY for clearing up the confusion, that means Barca must be the top of the list if we decided to sell Romeu which isn't likely to. I am so- so relieved to hear this news, because, we all know, we got this gem, we can't let this go so easily. I always worry Romeu is performing so good and Barca will buy him back, but now, every worries cleared smile.gif I love how AVB handle his press conference, he's tough with media, firm with his opinion, and has great language ability too, his english standard is one of the best in England, even a lot better than english too.

I don't really expect much from this game. We never really had luck against Man City. But hopefully some magic from Ramires and Luiz like last season will come to us again. Too bad, we will not see Luiz in this game and that's a huge question to our defense. Alex is so called 'banned' and Bosingwa back to right back? Anyway, we need to have faith on our player right? smile.gif

Mata Drogba Sturridge
Meireles Romeu Ramires
Cole Terry Iva Bosingwa
Cech

Tactics that I would like AVB to use:
1. Defend deep
2. Counter attack
3. Exploit their wing backs with our fantastic wingers
4. Tackles all around in the centre of the pitch
5. Midfielders track Yaya and Silva run

I would say these five are the most important one.
I prefer Meireles over Lampard because he can press and he can track the MCY dangerous midfield run.
Romeu will be the man to do job number 4. Look at Lucas at Liverpool, made countless of tackles and Liverpool managed to stop City. I believed these are the only ways we can stop City.

Anyway, brace yourself tonight guys, 3.30 am and the blue flags will be flying high!

AVB favorite player during the pre-season was Rajkovic..i dont know that we have the buy back option for him..Good! If he can ge the work permit then bring Rajkovic back AVB!!..Bruma..I dont think we should disturb his development..Hutchinson..if AVB confident about his fitness then we can include his into the squad this January.. nod.gif and I think we will..already a regular in the reserves..Chalobah is the next big thing for us..but maybe not this season...

Also good for Hamburg, their best senior central defender ( Westermann) can go back into central of defence to partner Bruma there.

Don't know about work permit issue though, maybe he needs to perform better for Hamburg first and break into national team, then got chance get it.

*
For god sake pls defend deep this time around.... with so many playmaker in their teams, i don't want David Silva to rip us apart like what he did to Man Utd with his defend splitting crisp pass....even Aguero has the ability to create chances for his teammates...i dun even want our full backs to overcommit flanking.... hope Sturridge can capitalize on any crosses...hes our golden boy at the moment.

Sure you want us to defend deep?

Teams who did well against City attacked them without deep line. Napoli, Bayern, Man Utd ( Before the silly sending off), Liverpool, Man Utd ( Community shield).

Players like Silva, Nasri, Mata , Fabregas , Xavi actually gets more time and space to pick the pass when teams defend deep, that means unless our players are 100% focused for 90 minutes, there's no point in defending deep.

High line..hmm always the dilemma with Luiz fifth yellow...we cant really play two pacey defender now... hmm.gif thinking...cant really digest anything..must see the lineup first hahahaha

The reason why I chose to defend deep isn't actually for the sake of defense. With City strike force ability, they can score against any teams, high or deep defensive line.
But with deep defensive line, we have much more space in the midfield and some quick thinking from midfield(Meireles,Romeu) will surely provide some counter attack threat. We got numbers of great counter attackers, Sturridge, Mata, Ramires will be the trio to counter attack. Remember last season, where Carlo said, 'Counter the counter?' We didn't have fast wingers that time, we couldn't do our counter attack job well. But now, we have seen a lot this season, Sturridge+Mata+Ramires counter attack has been pretty effective.

I just hope that we can hold our defense and hit them when counter attack, because City wing backs are always ridiculously high up the pitch.

to cope with a very solid side like City/ Barcelona..we need to learn from other team who succeed in doing so..recent example is Real Madrid, i admired on how they've manage to compact every department and pressing Barca players.

to shut off City, as someone mentioned here..shut their key player, they have very tremendous amount of talents at their disposal but the key person will always be Silva and Yaya Toure.

close them off, i think we'll do just fine.

Hopefully Mata can be our Silva tonite.... :s. Silva shuld be tightly marked and put some tough tackle agression towards him...sutrridge is gud by often times i see he seem to fade a little when being tighly marked at th4e flank....but his positioning to sometime poke a goal from a cross invaluable to us biggrin.gif

owh with the defend deep thing...i understand AVB philosophy of high line defense but with terry slow pace running and Luiz clumsy/error prone mistake sometimes it is a big gamble to play high line as we are not playing to the best of their style and ability. Think about it if we get counter attack and last line defense only luiz able to catchup and make a reckless tackle the risk for him to get sent off is high as well. dun wana things turn ugly...

MANC are good at counter attack and they have some good long range shooter too.

Looking at our player, yes we should defend deep and play on counter but the key for this match is to press fast, we need all the energy we can get from our midfield trio. If we get to score first we have a big chance but if we concede first then it might turn into a goal fest

just look at real madrid players in the el clasico. they started with energy and pressed up high on the pitch in the first half. if we gonna win today, we need to attack them from the first second of the match. don't give them so much time or space with the ball...

I dont think the first goal was that 'easy'. Not anybody can convert that oppotunity. Great pass from Aguero and balotelli finished. But the defence should have do better.

Lots of negative comments before that goal by our own Chelsea Fans.. sweat.gif

Bro,

In early 10 minutes, Chelsea defends really poor and at the same time, City should get another goal.

Watched the replay again, Bosingwa fault again? Oh fine.
Nervy game as expected. Thanks Meireles for getting us back.

The City two pivot behind the attackers are too dangerous for us. Yaya and Barry are controlling the midfield TOO easily. Meireles and Oriol need to get behind and block the two pivots. In liverpool match, we switched to 4231 to block Maxi and Lucas who were penetrating through the middle.
Same situation, we are currently 1v2 and we need to change something to make it 2v2.
With 2 pivots blocking City 2 pivots, our wingers should be more comfortable to cut inside. Look at Mata, he was struggling this match because yaya and barry are too strong for him.

This is one of the moments where i sincerely regret not doing regular cardio. I barely could watch the penalty. I kept an eye on the window in my room which is in the 3rd floor just in case.

Good win. Good win.
Other than the obvious key performances of players, +1 for AVB for not doing the Drog-Torres switch. We practically kept the score 2-1 becoz of him.

WOW !! Great comeback, great goal from Meireles and of course...great goal from the LEGEND Lampsy with his strong penalty kick...

1st team to beat MC in the league this season...great comeback.. and most importantly, we're 7 points adrift from MC already. hope to keep the momentum going especially this crucial month !

Never give up,and this is the reward. Thanks Chelsea.

AVB is a genius, look at the change at the half time.
433 when attacking, 4231 when defending, impressed with how he utilize these tactics.
As I said at the half time, I am glad that AVB did what I wanted too smile.gif Two pivots, Oriol + Ramires/Meireles(inter-switching) , holding Yaya Toure and Barry. This locked City movements and gave much more space for Sturridge and Mata to cut inside. Direct result, Sturridge caused a lot of problems and with Ramires run, Clichy red.
AVB, got this ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.

Speaking about the improvement of our midfield, Romeu really. Oh gosh, I can't believe we got him FROM BARCA, FOR 5 MILLIONS.
FIVE. FIVE. Is this a highway robbery?

Dont believe too happy of getting good player at cheap price from barca. he got barca dna as we, arsenal, already knew what had/will happened.

Dont get rid drogba, as he is one of the most consistent players in the squad

Chelsea are not like Arsenal, Chelsea have no urgent need of money so we don't usually sell players back. Unless, 100m offer came in.
There's a buy back clause, but, only if Chelsea want to sell Romeu. That means if Chelsea want to keep Romeu, barca can't buy him back too.

So right now, Chelsea midfield should stay with Ramires,Romeu and Meireless Combo. Defends no need higher because we look shaky when using higher defend

I agree with you..
Romeu passing abilty in tight space is very awesome..
Really bargain we got it from Barca..

I thought there's a clause, that Barca will be able to buy him back after idk how many years ? rclxub.gif
*
it's true. they insert a buy back clause at a fixed price within 2-3 years IINM.

Eh, I thought is Kompany..
Btw my mistake..

Wait, the incident I said are during the second half..
Where Mata drible pass two City players..
Then someone whack him from behind..
I thought Kompany..
*
I believe it is Kompany too.. event the commentator mentioned about it.
Yaya Toure is about another incident. Should pick on someone his own size as the commentator said..

Actually Kompany and Yaya Toure both had possibility to be sent off.
Yaya involved in mata incident and Kompany made lot of silly fouls that might get him the second yellow.

u got it right then, YAYA is early first half incident

anyway really big gratz for our players and AVB, we won a really important week which could have end our trophies challenge and AVB job, but CHELSEA score full mark for all 3 matches.

Did they celebrated with AVB after score?
*
AVB confirmed during the post match interview that it was a false story and somethg like the reporter misinterpret the message of "the bench shud celebrate as the same as the one who scored"

btw no need to so obsess with barca la...haizz their talent pool is big

no means to disrespect romeu..but still long way to go.what an excellent prospect

Credit must be given to Ramires also. He got smacked and tackled and beat up badly by City players, yet he still play with 100% energy.

i think that was one the key tactic.. Cole and Bosingwa held back to give more support to CBs.. Terry lack of pace would kill Chelsea's defence.. anyone of Balotelli, Aguero or Silva will easily outpace him.

great result..

First 30 minutes simply play lol. After that midfield got hold of their passing.

TBH, 2nd half was quite boring until Clichy sent off, everyone simply chop people's legs only.

Silva quite quiet this game even in 1st half. Good job to our midfield for reducing his influence.

*
With or without the buy back clause if BARCELONA do a FABREGAS drama eventually we have to sell. You dont want a half hearted player on the field anyway.

+1 he is the engine of our midfield, always burst with full of energy that can easily earn opponent a yellow too. If ESSIEN is back from his injury and to his best then we have twin turbo engine covering all over the pitch thumbup.gif

Another win to celebrate! Great!
A match against the league leader; they are the biggest loser today. And a very welcome to all the other teams.

A good win though I hoped Chelsea would win with a more convincing score such as 3-1 or even 4-1, then again a victory is a victory.

Grats AVB, I really like him a lot as a coach.
