i used to love hm, but hm is always best looking in picture than in real fish. especially when they dont flare. a few i have had cant even open their tail perfectly, like the tail is collapsed. and hm seem like more weak compare to hmpk. what is even more dulan is that, it is always harder to find a good quality hm compare to hmpk coz people tend to breed and maintain hmpk compare to hm. hm is just too much work to maintain. so they say. lol
*
Guess what? I love HM a lot but fin rot was something I cannot handle at all. Tried salt treatment and it didn't work at all, in the end gave up keeping betta. Plus, they need higher water temperature too.

Anywhere i can find pretty halfmoon in subang area?
*
Depends on your taste on what "pretty" is.

IMHO most pet shops have halfmoon but 99% of them are not nice at all. The really nice halfmoon I got was from Betta Nature in KL, I got it when they got fresh stock so I could choose which I want. Quality is quite good. You can refer to pic:

Planning to get this

http://www.ocreef.com/betta_cube_kit_glass_with_led_light

But the problem is

1 can bettas survive without a filter?
2 is that Small tank sufficient for a betta half moon ?

It's cruel to confine any fish in such a small aquarium. Get the biggest you can afford smile.gif

I used to keep him in a bigger tank with one chinese algae eater until i find him sick yesterday night, the i move him into a small individual bowl to monitor him.

the bigger tank come with a filter so i just changed 30% of the water last week(first time WC after i bought the tank and fish 1 month ago).

I feed the betta pallets and some bloodworm alternatively.

Not sure why is it like that suddenly tho.  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

How long have you been keeping the betta in your bigger tank?

Is your filter mature already aka have enough beneficial bacteria to break down ammonia & nitrites?

I'm suspecting ammonia poisoning..

There's no need for lights.

While bettas may be hardy, still it is not humane to subject them to various unhealthy living conditions such as:

1) Unfiltered aquarium
2) Super small aquarium. It's like forcing a cat/dog to live in a cage. They need big space to live too.
3) Unsuitable temperatures
4) Poor water quality
5) Ammonia poisoning <--- I think you better read a lot about this.

http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/biologic...trogencycle.htm

Please read!!

Regarding your fish:

1) How big is your tank?
2) Do you have a filter? Is your filter properly cycled?
3) Any signs of diseases?

About one month already..what do I need to do with my filter then?

Bought it from one of the shop from jalan pasar and set up with the tank right away.

Make sure your filter is properly CYCLED first. This is the most BASIC and most important step to know before rearing any living creature in an aquarium:

no worry about the ammonia stuff la, it will take years to get ammonia poison to the fish due to the amount of shit in the tank. betta r quite hardy fish.

i dont really care about those stuff. just make sure ur water is not contaminated then shud b ok.
*
Any amounts of ammonia is still dangerous to fish. Even though bettas are quite hardy fish, that does not mean you can subject them to various irresponsible and ignorant acts that will harm the fish in the long term.

And mind you, ammonia is also released directly from the fish itself. The smaller the tank you have, the more frequent you have to water change due to the accumulated levels of ammonia in the water.
