DiGi enhances prepaid package for youths
SHAH ALAM: DiGi.com Bhd has enhanced its strategy to capture the Internet-savvy youth market with its Easy Prepaid plan, which now provides 24-hour free calls, short-message service (SMS) and Facebook access for customers. Its unit DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd is focusing on providing “Internet for All”’, the latest offerings where consumers will be able to use both voice and data channels to stay connected. DiGi head of prepaid Ting Shiew Han said the plan would enable customers to interact with three “Buddyz” freely and easily at zero charges within their self-created “mini community of four” via phone calls, SMS and Facebook. Ting said in a statement that with 80% of Malaysian mobile subscribers being prepaid users, the company was taking the lead to address their needs by delivering the best value in the market with relevant and richer mobile features that customers could truly appreciate. “Starting Tuesday, Easy Prepaid subscribers could enjoy round-the-clock free calls and SMS to three ‘Buddyz’ as well as free Facebook access under this refreshed prepaid plan. “About 50% of the Malaysia population are below 25 and they are one of the most discerning, price-sensitive and mobile Internet-savvy people around,” he said. “We believe the new features of DiGi Easy Prepaid will further enhance user experience and empower customers to stay connected with their loved ones in the most affordable and convenient way – fulfilling our ambition to deliver ‘Internet For All’,” he added. The plan also includes SMS bonus. It offers free SMS to the subscriber and everyone in the “Buddyz” list after each reload transaction from as little as RM10. With every RM10 reload, the DiGi Easy Prepaid subscriber will receive 10 free SMS to all networks whereas all three “Buddyz” will receive five free DiGi-to-DiGi SMS each. Existing DiGi Easy Prepaid customers can migrate to the new plan from Sept 14 for a fee of RM5. |

Malaysia 3G Speeds not up to expectation, SKMM to take action
The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a stern warning to cellular companies that are providing 3G services on lower-than-agreed bandwidth, causing a deterioration in the quality of 3G services. Most of the 3G players are using the 900 megahertz (MHz) and 1,800MHz frequency bands to roll out 3G services instead of the primary 2,100MHz band meant for 3G. The regulator has given the players till the end of the year to come up with a plan to rectify the situation or face hefty fines, given the rise in the number of complaints regarding the capacity and speed of 3G services. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “We did an audit over three months ago and this has come to light. They have been putting up 3G coverage but not capacity and speed, and hence, the 3G services are slow. We issued the warning two weeks ago and have given them till the end of December to come back to us or action will be taken against them,” MCMC(SKMM) chairman Datuk Mohamed Sharil Mohamed Tarmizi told StarBiz. He, however, added that “some of them have taken steps, but a lot more needs to be done”. ______________________ no wonder nowdays digi prepaid mobile internet the speed is faster than last time. Just tested the download speed almost 3 mbps and upload 0.8 mbps. Took them long enough |
