Open RealTemp
Execute Task Manager > Performance tab
Launch Prime95 27.7
Choose custom, min FFT 128k, mem to use (see task manager for available mem)
Start stressing
Monitor the max temp make sure it doesn't exceed 105C (TJmax) - speed will go down (throttled) if TJmax is hit to protect the CPU from overheating
Stress it for 3 hours +
Don't stop priming & open CPU-Z
Take screenshot including Prime95 + CPU-Z + Task Manager + RealTemp

QUOTE(eXnikaru @ Apr 26 2013, 04:18 PM)
some tips for sandy bridge user..
U all can test the system stability in shorter time with prime95..
Just select custom and test with
1344fft 1344fft 1minute 80-90% available ram for 15mins
If can passed the test u can test with 1792fft 1792fft 1minute 80-90% available ram for 15mins too..

If passed 2 tests on certain vcore..then your system should stable for 12hours prime95 blend test.

the 1344 and 1792 fft is the extremely hard and best test for sb`stability

Normally,if your system is unstable..one of the workers in prime95 will stop/BSOD will happen within 10mins of both test

QUOTE
0x101 = increase vcore
0x124 = increase vcore
0x0A = unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore
0x1E = increase vcore
0x3B = increase vcore
0x3D = increase vcore
0xD1 = QPI/VTT, increase/decrease as necessary, can also be unstable Ram, raise Ram voltage
0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency or uncore multi unstable, increase RAM voltage or adjust QPI/VTT, or lower uncore if you're higher than 2x
0x109 = Not enough or too Much memory voltage
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)
0x7E = Corrupted OS file, possibly from overclocking. Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r

How to test max OC by Massman - hwbot

QUOTE
FYI, I found there is a way to bin the CPU on air. I tested it with this CPU and it worked like I expected. What you need to do:

- go in bios and set all VRM config like you'd do for extreme OC
- run 2c2t (to save heat)
- set vcore to 1.55~1.6V
- set bclk to 100

Now, increase the CPU ratio. In the beginning, you will be able to boot straight in to OS. After a while, it will crash at OS loading (for W7, it will lock at the ball swinging moment), but when pressing the reset button, the board will reboot. This means it can run this frequency with better temps! Once you lock and pressing reset doesn't work, you've found the maximum frequency of your CPU.

In my case, I could always reset from lock-up upto 55x. With 56x, I could not reset and had to power off the entire setup. The end result was 5510MHz for my CPU under LN2.

indeed, 5.5GHz+ is not for 24/7.
But this kind of chip usually has lower vCore at 5.0GHz, that's what we're looking for.

Nope
Those OC is done with LN2 or other method of extreme cooling, hence not suitable for daily usage

that would be a messy cluster of tubing there lol.
90' adapters + extenders should do the trick but I need to add another pump to take care of the restricted flow.

From memoryc bro... but now this model not available anywhere across the globe already.
your best bet is the 2133C9 kit or wait for the 2400C8 (not sure availability though)

Now i need to add one more PSU for the extra PCIE connector on the mobo. One AX1200 is not enough doh.gif

although Intel recommends 1.4v as the safe limit, 1.5v is doable & actually fine as long as you have a proper cooling. so it is more to the temperature as the main concern. SB-E limit is 91C.

Prime95 v27.1 Build 1
-(64bit)
ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v271.zip

From developer:
QUOTE
A very early pre-beta prime95 version 27.1 is available. It has support for most, but not all AVX FFT lengths. I have not done any of the 64-bit optimizations.

I've been using this version on my Sandy Bridge for the last few days without incident. You are free to do so too. I'm fairly confident it will produce valid results as it has passed some torture testing and QA runs. If you do not have a Sandy Bridge CPU (or maybe a Bulldozer) there is absolutely no reason to download this version. In fact it would be dangerous to do so as I have not tested the SSE2 or x87 FFTs to see if I've broken something!

No stock on the 2400, the next piece already back ordered by a customer. Wait time may be over a few months for the 2400. I recommended this to bro Norazam:
http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=450&c1=1&c2=3

with ready stock but I think he wants the other 2400 CL9 brows.gif

Since the CL8 kit already booked by you there is nothing else available besides the above ram.

<1.5V to hit 5ghz looks really sweet. Most of my customer's 2500/2600k needs 1.5V to hit close to 5ghz.

For me as long as it's binned at higher speed the blue 2400 is not really bad
RM600 cheaper than the black 2400C9, I'd use that extra money to buy an SSD brows.gif
Waiting for the 2400C8 kit, & hope the price is right as well hehe...
yalor there were only 2 out of nearly 15pcs of 2600K i've tested before could stable at < 1.5v.
2 of these were bought as used at higher price than a brand new unit

Oh yeah 3930K 5.0GHz at 1.5v hit 72c core temp when stressed with LinX at load. I will try to get a proper screeny later.

This chip is roughly 10c cooler than my golden 2600K at 5GHz. Btw my wc set is around 25c better than Corsair H5O, just in case if u wanna compare with a high end aircooler.

The Corsair H100 is a respectable cooler, but to get the same temperature as a custom WC rig would require the fans to run at 2k+ RPM which is extremely loud. Sooner or later Corsair will release H120 (low FPI dual rad using the same rad on H80 laugh.gif)

i manage to get 5ghz@1.49v setting but seems nt stable..

1) the error that occur at bsod is non related with oc..
such as 0xbe 0xc3 0x9c and 0x7e this error does nt indicate that i need to add vcore or vtt/qpi or ram timing..

so does this shows that i cant go for 5ghz?

What is your temperature? If it is below 80 and it BSODs that mean you can still go higher with higher vcore. A "stable" OC will run till almost thermal shut down temperature without BSOD.

Nah, bro Owi's rams are gray market, no warranty on those from us tongue.gif but his CL8 kit is from us biggrin.gif

The other 2400 CL9-10 kit happens to be reserved by another forumer here (not me, I cannot afford it...I can afford to see customer use them only doh.gif). You can still grab the CL9-11 kit and wait for the CL9-10 but it will likely be a few months wait for the second kit. Of those rams we received earlier, about 20% already sold out today brows.gif

again with question...its look like the chances for me to boot up on 5ghz are high if i let the processor rest..

so ive come up with this conclusion..

lower temp processor gives u higher success rate on lower volt per ghz?

vdimm? VCCSA? VTT? which mem profile are u using?

load normal oc profile to save all the hassle to disable all the options..
- use latest BIOS
- set bclk to 122 and memory to one step lower from 2600mhz..
- go into DRAM option, set to mode 2 and further, set main to 10-12-11-32-2t
- reboot and go into BIOS again to bring one step memory up to 2600mhz
- reboot and woolah pass code 62 and 96 then u are there
- voltages fine tune urself
- Good luck to ur hands! biggrin.gif

dun need such a high voltages.. 1.3vtt 1.65-1.7vdimm vccsa 1.2v should be enough. But mine was special kit.

F7 bios for some gigabyte board out that Improve protection mechanism to prevent overhating and destroying the vrms.

Other thing i noticed llc is back to 60% for max just like the initial bios, but overclocking is improved on my ud3 using offset instead.

Gigabyte Recalling X79 UD3, UD5, G1.Assassin 2 Motherboards

QUOTE
Gigabyte, in its latest press release on its Chinese website, noted the issue. Apparently it received several such complaints from overclockers where even moderate voltage-assisted CPU OC fried its VRM. The issue was found to be widespread, among three of its main socket LGA2011 products, the GA-X79-UD3, GA-X79-UD5, and G1.Assassin 2.

Apparently, the issue is caused by a cocktail of bad firmware to complement the board's PWM circuitry, and bad quality PWM components. As an immediate remedy, Gigabyte issued a BIOS update for the affected products. This BIOS, however, will cripple the board's overclocking abilities. The new BIOS will throttle CPU when subjected to extreme stress, to save the VRM.

EDIT: Other sources confirm the recall

Its not a recall the original article from gigabyte didnt say recall i think they mis translation.

http://www.gigabyte.tw/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1077

The press release simply says update the bios over the internet or call support line for help, but if anyone doubt the reliability of the boards listed they can refund it with no question ask. There is not a single word about recall like the p67 revision.

Strangely a few boards atm in question, a few site reported even with overclocking asrock board will throttle itself when under load and there is no option to change that.

i believe throttling is due to PCH/VRM overheat.
Most important thing is don't try anything we don't know to the mobo without active cooling.
Even an Asus board also can get burnt without OCP (OC protection) option enabled.

ram settings changes on every reboot so need to set manually coz i always failed to finish spi on auto.
multilevel LLC is better than Giga (Z68, i'm not sure how's their X79)
vcore etc are pretty much comparable to RIVE, booting time is as slow as RIVE sad.gif
anyway still too early to comment much coz need some time to familiarize with its behaviour.

Yeah that link seems broken. It is the one provided at rog.asus.com/downloads

But you can try the link here

RivE Product Page

Under the Download tab and select your OS. Look into the BIOS section.

Cheers.

Saw the following in foldingforum.com, not sure if it works for you guys. He is running a 3930k.

Quote : "Hey, one thing I figured out that no one else is talking about - open your computer on the other side where the back of the processor is. You'll see the silver square of the processor itself and a black strip of metal above it. If you cool that black strip of metal *from the back* you can lover vcore temp by almost 20 degrees if its over 75 - 80. I have an Asus Sabertooth mobo, and yours might be different, but that works for me."

GD65? PPL thingy is there on 1.4b3 as well.
Anyway the latest RIVE bios added this option already so it is still exist since SB.

The GD65 was cooled by cheapo XSPC RASA 750 RS240 kit i tried to keep max temp lower than 91c to prevent throttling. Now i keep the whole 2nd rig under my bed already until i get a better CPU hopefully a C2 stepping.

i mean this trick. https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=47416343
because i tested with gd45, it can wonderfully go beyond 5Ghz without the PLL overvolt trick i posted earlier.

depends on chip, some CPU might need this Internal CPU PLL overvoltage enabled in order to pass win logon screen at 50X or as low as 48X. Fortunately both of my 3960X & 3930K don't need this option to be enabled until 50X.

i think u got me wrong

From the vid i posted, you have to enable the PLL but disable it back in order to pass x48 but. that is why it called "trick".
Hope its clear

think so coz i flashed to Bios 1.3 right at the first boot. So this board GD65 is currently holding the WR for SB-E @ 5.8GHz under SS.

user posted image

Just that MSI bios engineers need to work harder to improve their bios. The latest bios has 12X ratio bug unsolved yet although there's a workaround for it.

QUOTE
One last thing. The current BIOSes have this annoying issue that whenever the board doesn't like any of your settings, be it temperature, bclk, voltage or anything else, it'll lock itself in x12 CPU ratio. I tested this board with ln2 and anything below +15°C caused the x12 ratio trigger. The workaround is rather easy though:

1) go in bios
2) set all the ratios/voltages/frequencies you want to run at
3) check if temperature is above 15°C
4) save and exit
5) the board will now do a hard reboot (shutdown and power up)
6) go back in the bios
7) drop temperature
8) exit without saving the settings
9) boot in os

As long as you don't have the board shut down (by changing a bios setting or hard crash), the x12 bug will not occur. Once you do have a hard crash, you're royally screwed though!

even gd45 has this.
it cant go below 0c. if the CPU temp (built in) go below 0C, in windows the speed will only 1.2Gz.
too much volt also will trigger the x12.

good thing is there is no more hard reboot if you change multi in GD45 in latest BIOS.
GD65 still got hard reboot thing?

Actually u can go to online wc store ie performancepc, frozencpu, sidewindercomputer.com to check. I assume that ure refering to RIVE. So far there are only EK and Koolance wb for RIVE. DangerDen can custom make it for u but that would cost u a bomb. Due to complicated PCB design, X79 wb wont look nicer than X58 ie R3E. Pls proceed to the existing WC thread for further discussion.

my bad..sryy..btw out of curiosity..

what factor could make ur processor lifespan decrease?

is it heat or the voltage being supply to it?i mean 2011 by right should withstand better than the normal sb-E? since nowdays i often do video rendering and setting up my proc to 5ghz @1.48 ..kinda worried about the lifespan of the processor..

second is my x79 temp is at 41-43c on 5ghz full load..is it safe? currently just blowing the heat sink..

Common sense. High heat n voltage might degrade your proc. Dont stress your CPU 1.54v or higher on air cooling or low end wc kit.

X79 chipset, which has nothing to do with CPU degradation, is already hot at stock during load. Your 40c + is actually normal, dangerous level would be 80c+ until bios throttles down CPU speed.

Google for "SBE safe voltage" & and see.

LOL... it's not easy to kill a CPU & unethical.
CPU speed will throttle whenever you hit the TJmax.

So did u notice that your CPU speed becomes slower & temp drop after TJmax is hit.
that's the OC Protection feature provided by your mobo to protect the CPU & mobo from caught on fire.
Hence only hard mod can kill a CPU or accident during extreme OC e.g. short circuit caused by condensation which might take it together with your mobo. laugh.gif

For some reason, throttling still happen even though OCP is disabled.
At least on my boards.

your low GFlops showed that you're as slow as a dual core chip. biggrin.gif
So no surprise that you could finish IBT on air.

Hi,

Anyone custom water cooling their 3820? Can you share your idle & load temp (gaming & prime/folding)? Please specify ambient & whether you use A/C or not. Also specify how much radiator space you have.

This is mine with Hardware Labs Black Ice GTS360 360mm radiator & XSPC EX240 240mm radiator. Cooling CPU & GPU in one loop. 3820 @4.5GHz & ambient 32C. Prime95 blend for one hour.

wow! Nice office rig you have there.
You might wanna try Intel Tuning Utility (XTU) to overclock.
