There's actually a few decent ones. Triox Trading, Gold Medal, Pertama Complex are few that I can name off the top of my head. Training centers like PJ Union and Elite Star also sells some equipment for players.

Well, if you put it like that, lets set your budget to RM400. That'll get you a decent bat.

First thing, you did ask how much you should set aside. Why don't you just say how much you intend of spending then we can offer suggestions? With the info you gave me, I could easily just recommend Butterfly Timo Boll ALC + Tenergy at both sides. Get what I mean?

And in the sweet name of Jesus, do not buy any bats from Jusco. It is never decent and will never be.

Well, I invested in a bat that is worth RM400 PLUS I eat 7 meals a day of clean food + regular sessions at gym + protein powder.

If I could make a commitment like that, how come you can't?

Not to be offensive in my previous post. Was in a pretty bad mood that day. My apologies.

Anyway, if you're playing a sq bat, I'm assuming its a J-pen styled bat. I'd still recommend you to put aside RM250 for it. Postpone buying it for a month or two if needed because it is more worth it in the long run.

In a way, learning and playing in a low quality bat will screw up your strokes and limit your progress.

P.S. Chinese rubber ain't cheap. (hint: H3 province= RM120 per rubber)

Don't know what kind of spin you're referring to, but yeah, a round bat would probably be easier as you can use the backhand. Then again, it bottles down to preference about how you like your backhand to be.

Well, I'd recommend you don't use hurricane 3 for forehand as YEO isn't the most powerful of all bats and you might have a hard time generating some good speed with H3. Go with sriver instead.

Edit: Besides, what's wrong with the STIGA?

Thanks for the supportive comment.  thumbup.gif  You are very knowledgeable too on the subject of Table Tennis. I've seen people with pretty bad play getting very good equipments, hoping their games will improve. Well, to a certain extent, yes, but it won't last. However, my experience tells me the bat is more important than rubber. You can still play fairly well with good bat coupled with cheap rubbers, but not the other way around. I tried before. It sucks...  sweat.gif

I beg to differ on this. I feel that a good bat can still feel completely awful with good rubbers. Take for example, Butterfly Mizutani Jun coupled with Acuda S2 and Tenergy 64. I've personally tried this setup and it felt pretty bad as I just couldn't feel the bat at all. The ball just flies out of the bat before it enters the sponge thus leaving it with little spin. It's more of how you play around the stiffness of the bat and the hardness of the rubber. You'll be surprised by how good a LKT instict+ feels when it is paired with LKT Pro XP. My first blade and it still has one of the best feelings among all my setups.

Lol.. Nearest to your area would be in PJ Union which is located in Taman Paramount. Can't think of any other.

Yeah, there's some ex-nationals there. Even the non-state players there are pretty high leveled. I'm easily one of the lousiest there to be honest.

Cheapest for decent balls would be Rm70. Double Fish 1Star. Bats at Rm20 are not recommended by the way. You should look around RM40-RM50.

ahlui, there's always BTHO and Uncle Ling's shop in Viva Mall.

thesun, well, that setup will vibrate a lot I suppose. It might be okay I guess but I prefer my blades having a more solid feel.

WRB means that the blade's handle is hollow which gives the user more feeling supposedly. It'll also make the blade's head more heavier. I guess it will vibrate a lot due to the hardness of the Chinese rubbers paired up with the blade. Just an assumption from previous blades I've tried.

If you are using a supermarket blade, please do not waste a decent rubber like Sriver on it.

I am a fan of China made blade YinHe especially and only choose 729 or DHS for rubber. I may get YinHe NE70 or PE-700 soon. I'm not able to get these 2 YinHe blades locally but I am able to get them to ship to me from China. The Chinese blades and rubbers are much cheaper than the European made rubbers and blades. The quality is as good if not better.

I am currently playing once a week every Monday with a friend in Taman Sri Sentosa near Old Klang Road. I wish to play more often and I hope to join the bros in their weekly session.

Quality of Chinese blades and rubbers varies much more as compared to other blades and rubbers. You might not get the same quality if you were to purchase the commercially available Chinese rubbers. Let's not forget to mention that the strokes are noticeably different between Chinese rubbers and other brands. However, if you feel that you can play better with these Chinese rubbers and blades, by all means, continue using them. To each and their own.

also, i want to ask,
is it me or does black rubber usually is faster than red sheet?

cos before this i use red vega pro, after using black vega pro, it does feels faster,
and all my opponents agree with me.
*
Well, there were rumors that black rubber had more spin and red rubbers have more speed. That mainly applies for Chinese rubbers though. Don't know if it's the same with Xiom as their QC are more consistent.

Any updates on this? If the timing is right, I'll like to participate. It'll do me good to brush up my rusty playing. =/
