PingPang,

Woh! You've been a great help....

Initially, I thought you sell those stuff with ur avatar displaying them !!
*
No, I am no rubber salesman. Just that those are the rubbers that I used and some of them I buy on behalf for my friends and I thought of taking a picture of them and turn them into my avatar.

Hey all. I haven't played since the LYN friendly, keen to get in some strokes. Actually I need to learn how to hit a loop shot, anyways. I can be at Star Elite tues/wed/thurs if anyone wants a hit, let me know.
*
Likewise for me too.
Was not feeling well since the last LYN friendly due to coughing. Was out of breath when I went for my jog the next day after the friendly and have seen western 3 Dr.s but the coughing and running nose still persists. Went to see a TCM (traditional chinese medicine) physician last Friday and after 3 days my sinusitis was alleviated but the coughing was occasionally as compared with last lime.
I will try to make it tomorrow (Tuesday) evening for a light workout at SETTC.

Cheers.

pingpang - not sure if you made it later the other day, I was @ Star Elite from 6pm-8pm but was the only one there.

Anyone know an English speaking coach I can get 1 to 1 lessons with? SE seem to specialize in young students only. I really need to learn a loop shot, the technique and practice. I feel my game can't go much further without it.
*
So sorry Asica. I came at just after 8pm, also no one there.
Anyway, I was at SETTC last Friday, really out of stroke and out of breath. I will be overseas from this Fiday till the next week. Will probable be at SETTC the following Friday (6/4/12) 7.30pm.

Hello deadevil,

On the "rubber cancer", I think it is Haifu's QC problem. I used to play with Shark (version 1) a couple of years ago and found that their quality was OK. But lately, I found out from my friends that Haifu's rubber failed the QC 5/10 (meaning out of 10 rubbers, 5 did not meet the mark).

Deadevil,

Training the Putrajaya's youth team? The National Youth championship will be in end May at Wisma OCM, KL. This year hosted by Putrajaya Table Tennis Association. All are welcome to see our Malaysian youth (under 18 YO and 16YO) in action this coming May.

I'm not training in putrajaya , putrajaya team training @ kota kemuning
*
Wah! So early centralised training already. KL Team will have their selection in the following weeks.

About the different National tournaments, I do not understand the grouping.
In the National HOPES Tournament (for 10 YO & 8YO) and Youth Tournament, Wilayah Persekutuan is divided into 3 different teams - KL, Putrajaya and Labuan. But in the SUKMA (this year to be held in July at Kuantan) all these 3 teams are grouped as one under Wilayah Persekutuan. That means less slot will be filled by players from KL, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Last I heard from TTAM, SUKMA is under the Sports Ministry and they wanted WP to be 1 team. Whereas the age-group tournaments are handled by TTAM and they wanted to unearth new players, hence WP is divided into 3 teams.

Yes, Yeo (K2002) did a very good job in organising LYN 1st Table Tennis Tournament.
I may refrain myself from taking part in the 2nd Tournament as my health is still recovering.

Question!

Where's the best place to buy TT equipment/paddle/rubber etc. Any list?
*
I believe this question was answered sometime back before.

There is no best place to buy tt equipment, but the options are :
1) Gold Medal Sports (near Viva Mall) at Jln Loke YEw KL
(Also knowns as Ling's place)

2) Lucky Sports Trading in Pertama Complex - sole distributor of Butterfly Japan in MAlaysia.
(Owner is Tay Tong Kee and staff is Alex)

3) Trioxe Sports (also known as presports) at Jaya One, PJ.

4) ST Rapid Sports Trading at Batu 9 Cheras

5) Star Elite Table Tennis Center in Puchong Jaya.

Hmm.. the point system is just come out from my mind without referring to any point game system available in the net..Maybe coincidentally related.. not sure.

I will try get Union if we cannot make it to union then we will choose star elite as the place and it will be held during 15 April Sunday. You need to work during that day? PC fair...maybe you can join next tourney during June.

You can elaborate more on the ranking system of tiers that you mention. Maybe your idea is more suitable for our ranking system.
*
IMHO, firstly decide the venue - if many players feel that Union or SETTC or Ling's place is convenient, then that is the venue for LYN 2.0 game.

Next, league format or tournament format.
In view of the points accumulation and having the future games in mind, then a league format will be preferred. IMO, the pros (advantages) are everyone play the same number of games and can be measured against each other. This format will determine the players ranking. The cons (disadvantages) are all players involved must participate in all the games organised, whether in April or June etc. Else the ranking will not correspond to the participants as some may played in April & June, some April - August etc. or some may played in the month of April only.

Yes, interesting league format.
I was down with fever and flu on Sat night. Slept through the Sunday morning, woke up at 11am feeling slightly better, reached SETTC 11.15am. Played with 5 LYN "sifus". First match was toughest as am still fresh, played 5 games, deuce in 2 or 3 games, finally lost to En. Idrus. Next 3 matches lost, no stamina (& skill, perhaps). Finally won my last match before calling it a day at 1pm.

I need to change the date as the week of 16 & 17 i not able to be there. I don't know if anyone interested in this league. give some votes send me pm so that i can judge which date and time and which venue is the best for most of us here.

If the league tourney not that good idea maybe I have to ditch this league tourney format go for the elimination round tourney instead.
*
If June 16 & 17, not able, then I propose 23 or 24 or 30.

So far, only a handful attended the first league format game organised by K2002 as compared with LYN 1st Tournament which saw > 14 people participating in the elimination format. Dunno whether most LYN members shy from league format or maybe most of them not free on that particular day.
Hopefully members here can give K2002 the support for organising the first two tournaments. rclxms.gif

As for me, either league or elimination format also OK.
League format requires more dedication from members to play consistently in most of the "legs". Also, league format will push everyone to train regularly to improve oneself. During the league games, most players, IMO, will get themselves ready for the next game. Not much time to socialise among one another at that point of time.
As for the elimination format, IMO, is a good venue for members to catch up with one another or for those newcomers, get to make new friends and at the end of the day everyone goes back until the next tournament.

Whichever format the majority chooses, I will abide by it.

K2002, you have my support, and if you require any help in any area in the organisation, please let me know.

Cheers.

Near Equine Park is at the 3K Serdang Raya Community Hall. There are some people playing there regularly.
Another venue near there is at the MCA Hall in Serdang near the wet market.
Else, come over to Puchong Jaya at Star Elite Table Tennis Center.

Maybe you can try there or our Garage Sale.

The notable one in Pertama Complex is the shop run by Tong Kee, a Butterfly brand distributor in MAlaysia.
Agreed that many shops used to sell table tennis rubbers last time, now getting lesser and lesser as the price of rubber went up.

Has it come to your mind that there is a remote possibility that I may be poor and I am just trying to get the most out of what little money I may have left ?
*
I agree with the above comment "... trying to get the most out of what little money I may have left".

It doesn't matter what equipment you used, be it cheap or expensive.
IMO, If a good player (practices frequently), say name A, plays with a basic set-up against an average player, say B, using expensive equipment, for sure player A will be better than player B.
But if the 2 players practices regularly, then there are 2 possibility - either it is 50-50 chance irrespective of using cheap or expensive equipment OR the player with the better equipment (note : I did not mentioned expensive) knowledge and familiarity will win between the two.

I am also poor player, using Chinese rubber (because it is cheap) and practice once a week. If I encounter a player like Steven (who trains 3 X) a week, I am at a disadvantage due to lack of practice comparatively.

I know. The high end Chinese rubbers are on par with their European counterpart (like Stiga, Donic, Andro, Tibhar etc). My Chinese rubbers are limited to Palio (not the Macro Era or the "tensor" type) and LKT brands which cost below RM30 per piece.

My place here its normal to borrow someone who just got a new bat/rubber tongue.gif
Everyone wants to "feel" how good it is and then make conclusion. I think its a good practise cuz ur expose to different types of blade and rubbers.

Have to agree here it really depends on the player. Whenever we see some pro-uncle borrow some newbie blade, its amazing how wonderfull he handles it. When we (the lower class) try to use, the blade turn into shit, and then complain the blade too hard la, too bouncy, rubber too soft, handle too short bla bla bla   rclxms.gif
*
The secret is their skill level. We are no where at their level, hence cannot perform what they can do.
But with more practice and over time, I believe we will be on the right path to reach their level. biggrin.gif

Can see > RM100 rubber in the shop mar.
Like what Steven has hinted in his earlier post, a DHS Hurricane 3 rubber retails around RM30-RM 40. A Hurricane 3 Provincional Rubber (was told of a higher grade than the standard one retailing in shops) cost about RM120.
Other rubbers from Xiom, Stiga, Yasaka and even Butterfly has rubbers costing more than RM100. (Eg. Butterfly Tenergy series retails at RM200)

Interesting discussion. Anyway, for me, the bat is important, as it governs the overall feel of your whole play style. I have several decent and cheap ones, and they really feel different. As for rubber, although CHN rubbers are relatively cheaper, it doesn't mean they are inferior. I bought a RM 65 rubber and it's not bad, provided you couple it with a decent bat. Also, the bat can really last long, unless you bang in to the table by accident... laugh.gif

More importantly, you need to have proper playing techniques to 'get to know' bats and rubbers. I recommend bat around Rm 150, rubber around Rm 80 to start with so that  you'll have a better feel. Trust me. I've been playing for > 20 yrs... (I feel old...  sweat.gif )

Good suggestion, forgot_86.
But most members here are not regular in the forum, it will not be updated when they change their set-up.
Myself, an EJ, changes my set-up every 3-6 months. IMO, not informative.
As for location, it is good as other members can search for members in the same locality to play with each other.

Just my 2 cents worth of opinion.

That's a long post...  biggrin.gif  Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence.  laugh.gif  I have several bats, so I tend to have their rubbers interchanged to test out combinations. The most expensive rubbers I have are XIOM ZAVA I (pimple out) and WTSP Spinpips (pimple out), both costs RM 120 each. FYI, I play 'rough'...  brows.gif  brows.gif

Me too since I used to be an EJ.
At one time I have close to 8-10 blades and a dozen (used) rubbers which I use interchangably.
Sold some, given away the others.
Now, I stick to 2 normal wooden blades with the following rubbers - Sriver, Palio CJ 8000, LKT and 1 J-pen (square bat) which I used once in a blue moon with (either) Sriver or Palio rubber.
