ya, the Galaxy V15 is said to have very similar feel with the Viscaria, its the cheaper alternative to the Butterfly Viscaria.

Let me tell u the story of my ping pong blade. I started playing table tennis from my primary school, that time I used a champion brand pen-hold blade with 729 rubber. I played for my school for many years.

Even after I left school in 1988, I still play regularly until 1992... that's when for the first time I get a national level coach. He is a pen-hold player also and he see me stuck at that level and seems cannot improve much, I keep on losing in tournament. One day, he got angry with me and he suggested that I switch to shake-hand blade to see if can improve. He brought me to pertama complex, tay kee shop, that time that shop got a table inside, tay kee let me have a few strokes, then decided let me buy the Butterfly Sardius with Sriver, the super fast carbon blade. I got no idea what that was last time.

I make a lot of improvement with Sardius+Sriver for the next few years, causing many upsets in many tournament although I did not win them. Soon, I stop playing in 1996 because of work.

When I came back to play table tennis regularly 2005, most of the time at the OUG. Because of long break, about 9 years later, I found Sardius is too fast for me to control, I can no longer play like in the past. So I decide to get a slower blade. I bought a Butterfly Kong Ling Hui Special (KLHS ) and pair it with Bryce. I was enjoying playing with KLHS until I have to stop again 2008 because of family commitment, since not playing anymore I gave the KLHS to my brother since he is looking for one.

Then recently my church occasionally have games with other church, so I decide to play again, not on regular basis but on and off kind of thing. I wanted something like KLHS because I enjoyed playing KLHS last time. Instead of getting another KLHS, I feel that I need something similar to KLHS but can hit harder because physically I am much older and weaker now.

After doing some research, I thought Viscaria will be a better choice this time. Unfortunately Butterfly blade has become too expensive and I am also not playing on regular basis, I don't want to spend so much money buying a Butterfly Viscaria. So, I look for cheaper china made Viscaria clones instead. I heard people saying that the Galaxy K5 or V15 has similar feel with Viscaria, so I go and buy one from Hong Kong and use it with the Galaxy Moon rubber. Thank god, I think I make the right choice, the V15+moon is perfect for my physical abilities today and yet it is very much cheaper compared to butterfly products.

So here I am today with Galaxy V15 shake-hand grip and still keeping my original first generation Butterfly Sardius and I have completely lost my pen-hold blade.


Note:

I am not sure if V15 really feels like a Butterfly Viscaria because I have not used a Viscaria before but I can confirm that a V15 quite similar to KLHS with slightly faster response and on its own V15 is a very nice blade to play. On the negative side, V15 surface is very fragile, you must take very good care of it, even I am so careful with it already some wood pealing off when removing rubber.

My favorite is Viscaria. Probably the nearest I've gotten to that is the Stradivarius from Xiom.

Hi tsd, I am a penhold player. Started to learn Reverse Backhand. That is a V13 actually, an allround blade. I have changed to V1 (OFF+) and I loved it. But the blade thickness of 7mm is giving me a little problem. Still sanding the edge until my fingers are feeling comfortable.

I am using 729-08 ES rubbers on both sides. Having the slightly harder black sponge on FH. I can actually do a BH spin with the softer sponge. Kind of stick to this rubber for my BH.

Puchong has 2 places - Star Elite or the other one near Aeon Big (formerly Carrefour, I think the place is Puchong Utama).

Thank you for the compliments, tsd, but I am not a walking dictionary on table tennis. There are some who may be more knowledgable than I am like the current administrator here.

BTW, do you know that Galaxy / Yin He brand used to be the OEM for selected models for Butterfly, Yasaka & Nittaku? That's why some of their blade feels / looks similar to the Japanese counterpart albeit at a cheaper cost.

Today suppose to play with K2002 at Avenue K but he is down with fever the last 3 days.
So tonight I will hop over to OCM to see the SEA Junior & Cadet tournament which started today until this Sunday.

I am looking for place to play table tennis in Puchong. I have stop playing for 12 years and recently bought a new blade and prepare to play again.

pingpang, really nice to see u still very active in table tennis activities. I am still "grounded". K2002 name sounds familiar.. I think I played with before long-long time ago from the V1 of this forum. I will try to practice as much as possible at home, if one of these days I have chance, I might join some of you for a game.
