Shimano - 2:1 ratio
SRAM - 1:1 ratio
On 10spd drivetrain:
Shimano - 1:1 ratio
SRAM - 1:1 ratio
Shimano has forgo their 2:1 ratio on the 10spd due to spacing problems. IIRC (read somewhere), they can't make the 2:1 shifting reliably for the new 10spd, hence the change of ratio.
Shifting feel
I've tried both (fren's bike). The SRAM (XO - 10spd) has a more direct feel to it, more brute force so to speak. Think racecar with manual transmission. While the Shimano (XT - 9spd / SLX - 10spd) has a softer smoother feel to it. Like a well tuned automatic gearbox.
Quick shifts
The XO can shift 5gears up at a time, but only 1gear at a time shifting down. The XT (modded) / XTR can shift 4gears up at a time, but can drop 2gears at a time going down.
Price
Shimano can be had for cheaper price compared to SRAM. That's cuz there's a Shimano factory in Malaysia, therefore logistically it's cheaper. And if u chance upon those 'jatuh lorry' goods, it can be had for even cheaper price.
