QUOTE(chyu89 @ Dec 8 2011, 11:02 PM) Anyone uses 29 wheels and fork at front , then 26 frame? the geo gonna be super slack Kekeke... Using 29er fork, but oni 26" wheels jek QUOTE(Proclaimer @ Dec 8 2011, 11:56 PM) Technically speaking its the real deal. One full rotation of the crank for 26" is slower than a bike on 29". Put it simple 7th gear on a 29er feels like 5th gear on a 26" bike, lighter to pedal but same speed. But i wonder why it is not catching up Gain ratio is different, but not that much different la. The difference is is aroung 2 tooth. That's why Shimano's 29er 9spd cassette is 12T~36T instead of the normal 11T~34T

Technically, 26" is the ideal and perfect size for mountain-biking. 29" works better for XC and trails as it gives better traction and control, but not for freeriding and downhill.

Long wheelbase = Stable at speed but not that flickable. Also turning radius will be larger. Not suitable for tight trails.
Longer spokes vs Shorter spokes = Same sifu build the wheels with the same quality spoke, shorter spokes will flex less for hardcore usage. Hence flexier wheels.
Larger wheels = Longer chainstay. Comfort riding, but again, not that flickable.
Just my two cents on why 29er is still not readily adaptable for FR/DH. But in the AM category, it's gaining ground nowadays.

It's easier to climb technical terrain on 29er?
