Care to share your buying experience? Price can nego?
*
Well..at first abit worried as its online. However, since they Malaysian, they can do COD, can always have a look at the watch and decide.

Price wise usually firm since they are discounted. May get some further discount but its usually very small amount.

Overall, great experiance. But there are others which are giving a great bargain outthere..saw a brand new IWC 5001 somewhere in KL selling for 28.5k....my grail..but no $$$ currently. sad.gif

Guys,

Planning to get Tag Heuer Carrera - CV2A10.BA0796

Between London & Paris which 2 shld i get it cheaper?
*
As far as I know..London's prices tend to be higher than Paris. I saw a Bell and Ross at lafayette selling 1600 euro (before tax refund) whereas the same watch in Malaysia was quoted RM7.2k after discount. Also, the shop assistant in Paris mentioned to me that in Europe, watches in Paris are the cheapest (dunno true or not la..maybe just want to hard sell me kua) hahaha

Right...but plenty of spare cash is essential. The good thing with luxury watches are ..you can always flip it later on. If yo buy a Rolex, you wont lose much when you sell it later on..treat it like leasing the watch lo... smile.gif

Tag is a luxury brand.
That is a fact.
As for the products that they are offering, I do not feel they are value for money.
More like 20% is what the watch is worth and another 80% that you pay for is for the marketing costs.
I am not sure if anyone said TH is crap because it will not be right.
Everyone have their own tastes in timepieces.
A person wearing a patek does not necessarily be any different from someone wearing a casio or seiko.
All 3 could be equally rich, just not the same priority when in comes to watches.

If I were given a choice between a Tissot and a Tag, I would go for the Tissot.
But that is just me.
Check out the Seastar or T-Race automatic line.
Pretty nice watches.

Do not be jealous with the Patek the guy beside you is wearing, be happy with the watch that you're wearing now.

Added on February 25, 2012, 5:37 pmIf I have 3-4k to spend on a watch... for everyday wear... I would definitely go for this.

I am a big fan of their watches and I sold off my old DC67 and now waiting to pull the trigger on this, just that I have more targets than money... lol

+1

Great advice

I do agree that value for money wise TH watches are overrated- especially if it is quartz movements.

If I am to pick a quartz watch- I rather go with Seiko or Citizen. They have beautiful contemporary watches which IMHO represent more value for money compared with TH quartz.

For whats it worth, perhaps one question that needs to be addressed is what is the purpose of getting to watch? If it is to keep time..Quartz trumps mechanical hands down. Even better get a smart phone, these will even automatically switch the time for you when you are in a different country. However, if you want a watch to impress, then my suggestion is get a mechanical watch.

Reason, simply put a mechanical watch has soul, the craftmanship and time, effort expended to create the watch somehow gives the watch a soul. Its like you have someone spending many hours with great skill putting the watch together compared with the run of a mill quartz. What you are wearing is a work of art of someone irrespective if it is a ETA or in-house caliber.

Lastly, I am sure many have echo this view, before you pull the trigger..wear the watch and see if it "sings" to you (tugging your heart). If it does...you will never regret the purchase.. smile.gif Have fun in you quest to get your first big ticket to horology

As mentioned above there many mechanical watches which dont really cost an arm or leg- look them up

sorry to just barge in like this.

but where can i get the best discount percentage for omega watches, around the klang valley area?

the omega boutique in pavilion obviously doesn't offer the best.

kindly advise.

thanks a lot!
*
Err...you can try Watatime shops. The one in Subang Parade still carries Omega..but not all Wata carries Omega. They usually give better discounts. But overall...discounts for Omega is quite standard..Hourglass or Sincere about max 10% unless you getting clearout stocks.

Good luck...

Carrera Calibre 5 Automatic Watch 39mm Black Stainless Stell Bracelet Watch
anyone know how much this one selling in Malaysia?
*
Hi Ong,

IMHO...dont get me wrong here (got nothin against TAG)...that TAG (while it is a nice looking watch) doesnt really represent much value for money. Calibre 5 is just a soup-upped EAT 2824-2 movement.

For that kind of money I rather get a Carrera RS (at least crono eventhough its also a ETA movement). Have a look at this

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph RS (NIB)
Ref: CV2011 FT6007 Silver Dial RS Black Bezel

at

http://www.collectorstime.com/tag-heuer.php

IMO..its a better watch which is within your budget.

The dealer is a fantastic fellow, I have personally bought 2 watches off him...PM me if you need more details.

Other people's doesn't matter.

+ 1.

I will agree to that. In the end, the watch will be on your wrist and its YOUR opinion which is the paramount consideration.

Like my opinion on TAG Calibre 5 is entirely mine...I am not saying that its correct. Its up to you to decide whether it makes logic or not...

But buying a watch for 10k is a serious investment..so its a difficult decision. If you want to be safe...buy a Rolex..that is a classic which can never go wrong. tongue.gif

Hi, i know many ppl say TAG watches are overpriced and not value for money but to me it has 1 of the best looking watches out there so i wanna ur opinion on the tag carera calibre 16 heritage.. thanks
*
Hi Bro,

Like CK77 said..if it rocks your boat..get it. My opinion doesn really matter....

The golden rule in buying a nice watch...buy what you want..not what someonelse think that is nice.. smile.gif

But if you want to hear my opinion...on Calibre16..well..lets put it this way..

It copies and looks like a IWC Portuguiser Crono 3714.Why because both uses the same movement, the Valjoux 7750. So...it all depEdns on you as how you perceive it.

If you think you are getting a IWC EQUIVALENT at half the price..then its a great deal. But the flipside of it is...if you think people may think you cant get the real deal IWC.. and you are a buying a cheap knockoff of a classic IWC, then its not a good deal. How....? this you have to ask yourself. nod.gif

thanks for some advice to both u and CK77, really appreciate it.. i think I'm gonna save up for that then and wow i rly didn't know it has an IWC movement in that watch at a fraction of a price.. Both the IWC portuguiser chrono and Tag Calibre 16 heritage even look the same although the TAG is really really thick..  hmm.gif
*
Its actually an ETA movement not IWC movement. Both TAG and IWC uses ETAs movement with some modifications. Its a very common movement and you can get a lot of watches which uses the same calibre.

The TAG is thick for the simple reason that its Water resistence is 200M certified, whereas the IWC is only 30M. You need a thicker back case for better water proofing..

Rolex date change is instantaneous that you don't often see in IWC, Omega and other leading luxury brands.
*
Also having a date means extra complication. Its mechanical.......engineering at it best.

We sometime take for granted how these complex mechanical watches keep time and dates. We are so used with our digital world that we dont really put value into small things like changing a date tongue.gif. Power reserve Indi or Minute repeater much more expensive..but these also easily replicated in our digital world...

i always thought rolex is for flashy people and stuff

the more i research about rollie the more hook i am into owning one. damn the poison is strong.
*
Hahaha..true..but for me I am only drawn to the Sub and Milgauss. The new Explorers/Daytonas/Datejust dont really tickle my fancy. Further, its not only rollies mate...once your start on this journey its will be hard to break the habit. Its not about being flashy, it about appreciating something which is very well made. Of course, the better it is made, the more expensive it gets...

You will soon branch away from rollies..IWC, JLC, AP ...PP and on and on.

The poison is very strong. Anyway...I am still waiting for the new subC to come in, let me molest it and check out the damn price. If its 7100USD..I think probably it will be 27-28k here..for that money I think I'll get my Porto 7 days Auto first.

It is a hard choice now. Do you want a well known brand, an iconic diver watch with a proven calibre or a newly desgined "better" calibre?
*
I will take the Sub C anyday (since its the Original Bond watch). As for the Omega, the co-axial movement is good..but not time tested yet.
Went to Rolex last weekend to enquire on the SubC. No stock so never had the chance to examine the watch. Will only be in in mid May.
Price was qouted 26k for black and 28k for the Hulk. IMHO kinda expensive since the old Sub is selling about 18-19k and knowing that no disc will be offered, may have to wait until year end and see if able to get some disc on it.
