There is alot more mystique in particular models that the average person would fail to understand...

I hope people who wear Rolex have not lost their sense of humor......

In addition, I did not make my previous remark to offend anyone. I was merely jesting. Ok, I'm not in the same league as Don Rickles..
Please accept my sincerest apologies if I have offended you or any Rolex owners here.

Back to topic.
Can you elaborate further on the mystique on the certain models that you have in mind?

Hey buddy non offence taken... i enjoy peoples different perceptions of the Rolex brand...a very love or hate thing as everyone has grown up knowing about Rolex smile.gif New knowledge and differing opinions is exactly they type of thing most ppl are looking for in forums.
When thinking mystique of the Rolex brand the Daytona instantly comes to mind...
Its been documented all over the net...  the old zenith movement.... the paul newman connection... the waiting lists and obscene prices... the asian obsession with the black dial versions...

I did consider a Rolex Explorer I or Deepsea. But as I studied Rolex Cal 3000, 3130 and 3135 movement and the price offered for these watches, I was put off into getting one. Take out the brand Rolex out of the equation and I don't consider the movement special. Anyway, Cal 4130 is one of the better movements in the current product range. wink.gif

I ask myself, why should I get a Rolex other than the brand name and recognition itself? I couldn't find any good reason to own one yet.
As far as accuracy is concerned, there's a lot of watches are just as good or better than a Rolex at a more justifiable price.

QUOTE(xuzen @ Sep 13 2012, 03:07 PM)
RM 12K -RM 13K is what I would call a yuppie trap. What you get at this range are hyped up ETA movement. Really expensive mass produced factory pieces specifically to trap those yuppies who has lots of free cash to spend. You want something good...
up your ante to RM 20K, now you get into the range of JLC or Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece or Pontos range. This is your entry level to real haute horologie.
If not,
think a little outside the box....
Try Nomos Glashutte (Deutche) or look the Japanese way... Royal Orient.

I concur.

There is something that will deter me from owning a Seiko GS.

If the Spring-Drive mecha goes "konk".... have to send back to Japan.

Take ages and lots of money spend.

There are 4 movement calibers to choose from the GS line up:
Quartz 9F
Mechanical 9S
Spring Drive 9R
Spring Drive Chronograph 9R86

Can always go for 9F or 9S.

Sadly, it is the same for all JDM models at the moment. I wonder if they will fix 6r15 calibres locally.
*
True. Anyway, mechanical movements are proven to work reliably for years.
6R15 was brought in by Thong Sia. It would be better to call them and check. Checking their website they do list GS and 6R20 watches now.

I'm still waiting for parts ordered fully paid in advance from Thong Sia in May till now for my rebuild project... Sigh.

Definitely an IWC top gun for me.
The lure of a top gun is too temptingggggggg
*
What is so special about the IWC Top Gun? The TOP GUN logo on the back of the watch is from the movie not the SFTI program patch nor the school (Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center). laugh.gif
It is nothing more than a gimmick and marketing ploy. I'd rather wear a Mickey Mouse watch on my wrist. tongue.gif

It's the same trick with JLC Navy Seal collection and several other brands that claims to have military connections.

For those interested in watches that Uncle Sam is issuing to its personnel, get a Marathon.

Anyone have any experiences with the following methods of regulating an automatic timepiece?

1. To gain a few seconds, lay the watch flat face-up overnight.

2. To lose a few seconds, lay the watch vertically with the crown downwards overnight.

3. To lose a few more seconds, lay the watch vertically with the crown up.
*
Yes. I'm using this method.

QUOTE(hanz079 @ Oct 20 2012, 10:53 AM)
Sorry I do not have a link as it was a magazine article I read last year during the launching of the Zenith Christophe Colomb watch.
Zenith CEO Jean Fredric Dufour stated that from then on (2011) Zenith movements will only be reserved for Zenith watches.
Now if there are watches equipped with the Caliber 36, was is an all new model? Eg: Launched in the year 2012 or maybe 2011? I do not know. Could be watches that already been fitted with the existing stock of zenith movements already in Tag's possession.
But whatever it is, I am just repeating what I read.
Sceptics can take it with a pinch of salt.
*
It depends also on how one interprets Zenith's CEO statement.
Although the Calibre 36 and Calibre 36 RS are based on an El Primero base caliber, there are modifications made to it to make it different from a Zenith.
Something like Calibre 1887 vs SII 6S37. Both have different dimensions and thickness and non interchangeable parts.

AFAIK, the latest TAG Heuer that uses Calibre 36 was released last year. <Link>

How about JLC Caliber 920 that is used by Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin? wink.gif

Yves Carcelle, Chairman & CEO - Louis Vuitton
Jean-Christophe Babin, President & CEO -Tag Heuer
Jean-Frédéric Dufour, CEO - Zenith

A TimeZone Interview with Jean-Frédéric Dufour, CEO of Zenith International SA

QUOTE
Michael Sandler: As part of LVMH, Zenith is now within a family of other watch companies. Is there a lot of collaboration between Zenith and the other LVMH watch companies, or do you remain very independent?

JFD:  We are not independent because we have the same shareholder, but we are 100 percent autonomous. We decide where we want to go. We have to write the business plans, provide the reports, etc.But we can go in any direction as long as we are able to explain where we are going. Basically, we must say what we will do, and we must do what we say we will. But each company within the group has freedom and can behave as an entrepreneur, and this definitely makes a difference.

Cortech SA no longer exists since 2008. <Link>

Cortech SA, Cornol, CH-677.3.000.082-0, société anonyme (FOSC No. 191 of 03. 10. 2005, p. 8, publ. 3042488). Assets and liabilities to third parties are taken by the company, TAG Heuer in La Chaux-de-Fonds (CH-645.1.002.251-1). The company is being delisted due to merger.

Anyway, Tag Heuer and Zenith is merged under a holding company. Business operations as usual IMHO.

this one or tissot? im torn between the two.
looks style. but i dont know where to buy this in kuching
*
The Victorinox is using a Ronda 715 (1 jewel) that is fully serviceable while the Tissot is using a sealed G10.211 (4 jewels) throw away movement.
Personally I'd look elsewhere for 2K.

It's close to the US list price of USD 4900 depending on the exchange rate used.
