Method 1 - Normal Method :

1. Download the file as usual and place it in the root of your sdcard.
2. Reboot to Recovery Mode. (If phone doesn't reboot,
3. Select > "install zip from sdcard"
4. Select > "choose zip from sdcard"
5. Select the file (rom v.xxxx) you want to update/flash.
6. After completed flashing, Select > "advanced"
7. Select > "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
8. Reboot.
9. Done.


Method 2 - Using CWM/ROM Manager :

1. Open Rom Manager.
2. Select > "Download ROM"
3. Select > "psyke83"
4. Select the revelant ROM versions , Hofixes, ClockworkMod Recovery
5. Select "Download"
6. Follow the instructions on your phone.

IMPORTANT NOTE :

1. WIPE DALVIK CACHE after upgrading, or else your phone will go into a bootloop.
2. It is recommended to BACKUP with CWM first BEFORE upgrading/flashing (just in case if anything goes wrong, you will be able to restore back everything).

REQUIREMENTS :

1) ClockWorkMod Recovery [CWM Ver. 5.0.2.6] v.0.6 tar

2) Latest CM7 Release : v1.7.2 - November 2011 or this Link

3) v.1.7.2 hotfix1

4) *Latest Google Apps package : official [minimal] : 20110828 | unofficial [minimal/full] : 20110815
(It's not recommended to install the full Google Apps package as this will take up a lot of internal memory space of the phone).

5) Sdcard partitions : a) FAT32 and b) Ext4 - both must be primary.
If you don't have any partitions, don't worry, you can partition your sdcard with CWM later.

PROCEDURES :

Note - Make sure you have back up your stuffs like your pics, videos, music, etc. etc., before proceeding.

1) Remove mad2sd using Terminal Emulator (for Madteam's ROMS or if you are using it) -
#su
#mad2sd off
#reboot

2) Copy the downloaded files, v.1.7.2, Hotfix1 and Google Apps to the root of your sdcard. (root of sdcard means any where in the sdcard, and NOT into any folder).

3) Flash with ODIN the CWM v.0.6 tar.
b) During the flashing, CWM will boot up. From the CWM menu, select > wipe data/factory reset.
c) select > install zip from zip sdcard ----> and select the CM v.1.7.2 first and install. After completed installation, select Hotfix1 and install and then Google Apps and install. (Must be in this order).
d) Wipe data/factory reset ; Wipe dalvik cache ; Wipe Battery Stats.
c) Reboot.

4) This is part is require if you want to partition your sdcard :
a) Boot up CWM : press off button > reboot > recovery --->>> CWM will boot up (if not, press > volume up button + off button for approx. 8 - 10 secs - don't worry, this is normal).
b) select > advance > partition sd card ---->> select the size for your partition and the 2nd selection is for swap partition, select 0 (zero)
c) reboot

5) Install S2E from Market.
a) Open S2E, click the Menu key -> Settings. Enable "Mount as ext4" (mandatory). Do not select "Set read buffer", as the default value of 2MB will cause extreme lag on our phone.
b) Close the app and reboot.
c) Open S2E again, select the folders you wish to place on the SD card. Select also the "Download cache".
d) Changes will take effect on the next reboot. Note: your dalvik cache will be rebuilt, so this reboot will be slower than usual.

DONE!

1) ***Latest Google Apps package: Google Apps (20110828) - Not all the google apps are available in this minimal package.
b) If you require more google apps, go to Android@Modaco
Select option 1b and install each app individually.

2) Each time you update to a newer ROM version, you have to install the three files in sequence/order, i.e.
a) ROM v.xxxx, b) hotfix-x (if any) and c) Google Apps. After installation, perform "WIPE DALVIK CACHE".

Hope this guide helps and if I miss anything, please inform me. And good luck flashing to CyanogenMod.

1. If you are unsure getting 3G coverage all the time wherever you go, then use a particular network (GSM or WCDMA) - select from Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Network settings > Network Preference. As this will drain power only for the select network (this may save up to 17% of your battery life).

2. Use 2G or wifi instead of 3G if you only want to sync your account.

3. If you decide not to sync services other than Google or neither of them then, you can un-check them at Settings > Accounts & Sync.

4. If you are using the CyanogenMod7 then go to > "Spare Parts" scroll down to > "End button behavior" and select > "Go to sleep" (so next time when you lock your phone it will get in to sleep, and thereby minimal or no battery drain at all.

5. Don't use the auto-rotate if you are not particular about your home screen rotations. (This won't effect any other installed app's interface as your installed apps will have them in the internal sensing thread, this just effects the launcher & built in apps).

6. Un-check the > "Use wireless networks" from Settings > Location & Security. This will save you about 5% battery if you don't want to use auto check-ins on your social networks.

7. Disable > "Windows animations" & > "Transition animations".

8. Uncheck > "Fancy input animation" & > "Haptic feedback" will help you save the extra 2% of your battery.

9. When you reboot your phone check at least once & kill the unnecessary processes running in the background like game updaters or auto-started apps.

10. Don't use any task killer apps as Android 2.3 have a built-in background app killer.

11. Use only USB charging whenever available.

PAPAGO :

REQUIREMENTS :

Papago x5SEA.apk - PM me.

NaviSea - PM me.

Instruction/Guide :

1. Download the Papago x5SEA.apk and install normally.

2. Download the NaviSea.zip file, extract it with 7zip and put this NaviSEA folder in the root of your sdcard.
This NaviSEA comes with the latest Malaysia Map (MFM-PPG-110823C).

3. Done and enjoy!

TIPS for saving space on SdCard for the NaviSEA folder (Thanks to alOn9) :

You can reduce the Papago installation size up to 70mb by removing unsupported screen size in the "Organic" folder.
Leave and use only the "EN" & "MY" folder with only the 240X320 (default size for G5 and remove all other dimension & language pack) ... this is before adding the map for Malaysia making total space saved around 350mb.

Full Papago x5 = around 450MB ;
After removing unsupported screen size & optional language = around 70MB.

97Ramscript - Increase your Ram and thereby result in smoother and faster performance.

Instruction/guides :

1) Download the above script and insert it to /system/etc/init.d with Root Explorer (if you don't have init.d folder, so create new folder and name it to init.d) and set perms of S97ramscript to 777 (rwxrwxrwx).

2) Reboot.

If you're not familiar with Root Explorer, here's the step by step guide :

1) Download the S97 Ramscript.
2) Copy the extracted S97 Ramscript to the root of your sdcard.
3) Open Root Explorer.
4) Go to > system/etc/init.d
5) Press > Menu > Bookmarks >SD Card.
6) Search for the S97 Ramscript and Long press it.
7) Press Copy.
8) Press back button.
9) (You will be directed back to the Root Explorer > /system/etc/init.d) Press top right > Mount R/w
10) Paste (paste the S97 Ramscript from the sd card).
11) Long press the S97 Ramscript and select > Permissions. Tick all. (If it [root explorer] doesn't allow it, press the top right > Mount R/w again and you'll be able to set the permission.
12) Exit Root Explorer.
13) Reboot.

NOTE - Each time you upgrade/flash a new CM rom version, you'll have to re-instal the ramscript again.

I'm using this circle launcher, which is actually a widget. It's neat and does not clutter the screens.

You can download the Circle Launcher Light version from the Market for free or the paid version (also free - PM me).

For icon packs you can PM me also.

You can name your widget (e.g. MAIN - for your most used apps like camera, browers, etc.; GPS - for all your apps concerning with GPS like Papago, GPS Test, Maps, etc ; SOCIAL - for social networking apps, like FB, Messenger, Twitter, etc..). There are many options which you can tweak the widget, like blur image when tapped, different icons, etc., etc.

It saves the cluttering of the screens and you don't need to have so many screens and thereby improves your phone's performance.
