You are generalising too much. Most people in Malaysia cannot retire at 50 and lead the lifestyle they want. Some can but most can't.

Same for Singapore. Most people can't retire at 50 and keep their lifestyle, but some can.

Your observations are selective, your conclusions are prejudiced by your biases and you randomly make motherhood statements that are supposed to represent an entire population when your knowledge doesn't extend beyond the narrow area that you have come in contact with.

Why do people in singapore not able to retire at 50? If the choose to retire, I think they should be able to retire with their income in singapore very high.

02 is the area code for Singapore, just like 03 for Klang Valley, 05 for Ipoh etc. This is known as STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialling) or area call / trunk call. Today, years later, you can still use 02 to call Singapore from Malaysia using Telekom fixed line. Not sure if MY mobile phones can still use STD. No idea if you can still use your SG fixed line to call 03 for KL, 05 for Ipoh etc. SG mobile phones cannot and have to use IDD.

65 is the IDD code for Singapore (International Direct Dial).

+ is the IDD access indicator for mobile phones... basically tells your phone that the next 2 or 3 numbers is an IDD code. Dialling 001 in Singapore and 00 in Malaysia from a fixed line performs the same function. In SG, it's actually cheaper instead to use service provider specific IDD access codes like 018 for Starhub to make IDD calls, rather than + or 001.

I don't seem to meet those angmohs like the ones you describe. Same like I don't meet many Malaysians who retire at 50 to Penang, nor do I meet many Singaporeans who cannot afford to retire at 50. I also don't meet many retirees who count their retirement packages in terms of the cost of chap fan.

Long story short, I think you're over generalising again, and yet again, asking other people to explain your narrow observations or else accept them as universal truths.

Your assumption is based on having quite a lot of angmoh friends. Mine is based on approving quite a lot of angmoh expat claims and expenses. Expat packages are very expensive. An average expat in Singapore costs my company around US$300K per year, excluding payroll costs.

Me... I think it'll be priced near the Civic Type R/Megane Sport/Focus ST/Golf GTi/RX7 etc to be competitive. So,... 160-180K. If they decide that it's a premium product due to its 86 badging, it could be even higher at Evo X SST, S2000 type pricing.

A car that has 200+hp is about a lot more than just top speed. It's also about acceleration, ride and handling. The feel of driving a powerful car, even when driving slowly, is very different.

Food's good, if you like that sorta couture cuisine (and you don't mind the waiter repeatedly interrupting your conversation to explain the course and incessantly asking how's the food). Small portions, huge plates and lots of useless artsy fartsy drawings using jams, sauces and condiments on the vast empty portions of the said plate. Personally, I don't see what's the big deal about Western fine dining. IMHO, very little value for the price paid.

Since you're interviewing to be a McDonald's crew member, that's not so weird lah.

Oic. If that's the case, I only know of 2 situations where they want to hold interview at McDonald's. Both are very dangerous situations. But you shouldn't worry, because based on what you have described about your job and that company, it will not fall under those situations.

The company owes you the 29 days IF you are a DAILY WAGE worker who HAPPENS to be paid on a (calendar) monthly interval.

Most professional or graduate grade staff are paid calendar month salaries. Your salary in your employment contract is denominated by calendar month.

I'm not sure what local Singapore law is, about AWS. In my company, AWS is paid to employees on payroll as at the 25th (pay day) December. So as long you're still on payroll on Dec 25, even if serving resignation notice, your December paycheck will be 2X your monthly salary. No pro rata if you resign too early. Funny thing is our bonus is prorated however. Maybe because it's actually a separate annual global contract which has it's own dates and criteria.

Not really leh. Depends on how you eat. My lunch is typically between $10-15 (Jack's Place, Crystal Jade Kitchen, bento lunch etc). Even if it's chap fan, a nice piece of fish, meat and 3 veges will cost $6-7 bucks. Including a drink, averaging about $30-40 a day for 3 meals. Then each weekend, my groceries will be about $50-$100. And if go to nice restaurants and have a durian weekend... the it all goes to hell.

To be frank, if you feel you're not steady enough to handle a bunch of forumers at Hard Rock in Singapore (lots of busybodies who are not shy to call a responsive police dept),.. you certainly won't be able to handle all those buayas esp. pilots, crew supervisors and stewards etc. If you're good looking and not confident & world-wise, very high possibility you'll... regret your first layover.
