Well, i can't really test this theory since my MOBO is currently being RMA'd and I have sold off my casing.

I am planning to get a casing but before I do, i want to check something with you guys.

For example, lets say you have a very good casing. Any casing but it has 6 fan mounts with fans running at 2000 RPM, even the side.

You have a GTX 580 card and the top of the line SandyBridge processor.

Now lets say you're playing a game, and your system would heat up right?

Would it run cooler when you open up the side panel, or instead worse (because taking off the side panel disrupts the airflow)

Well it depends what type of case you using.
Where the exhaust and intake fans are located.

But normally if you open the Side Panel, the air from the intake fan is sucked out.
And you might need to face with dust clots your Heat Sink Fans for your CPU and GPU.

You have a good point about the dust cloth.

However, my question is just mainly for benchmarks. Not for long term usage.

Basically, Will the temperature drop if the side panel of the casing is removed, assuming that the casing is a good one + the fans are working well as well.

definitely will see lower temps as the heat is not enclosed or restricted to go out from the exhaust of the casing only... its a simple experiment to do once u get a casing back wink.gif

Yes, CPU and HDD much cooler but dust will accumulate later - no worries, fire up the old Dyson to suck everything out.

Temperature will drop but you will have one hell of a headache dealing with those accumulated dust. Since your pc specs is somewhat like mine, you can consider a few options. As for me, I purchased the HAF922.

Haha. I was just putting an example so you guys would get my question.

Meaning, no matter how much fan we put in the casing, it'll still run cooler when the side panel is removed.

night,

Haf922 sounds good. I am actually considering that as well but my options includes the Corsair 400r and 500r.

Btw guys, thank you all for giving your opinions.

this one already sounded like Jet Engine.
if you want great airflow but don't want it to hum & whine & exhaust air like a jet engine, look for casing that utilizes large fan yet run at slow RPM. the concept been utilize on a few brands already i notice. fans like 180-200mm provides good airflow yet don't sound like a Jet.

i just setup a Raven RV-02e for my brother, that casing is sure silent and three 180mm fan really dumps a lot of air inside.
