heya, guys, does anyone of you interested in Doubleshot Devlin Keycaps? I have just recently contacted Devlin and received replies from them.
we can manage our own group buy in here. i will organize one soon on Geekhack and deskthority. Their Keycap are significantly better than Signature Plastic. but do beware that they will be much more expensive due to thicker keycap mold as well as better quality. Pictures provided at below. Devlin Q Series, they are Low Profile, available in Laser etch, Double Injection, and Blank. Devlin QS Series, Stepped version of Qseries, Low profile, available in Laser etch, Double Injection, and Blank. Devlin K Series, they are High Profile, available in Laser etch, Double Injection, and Blank. Devlin J Series, they are Medium Profile, available in Laser etch, and Blank if anyone of you interested in US ANSI Layout, and can be fitted on Filco, Ducky, or any keyboard that is using US ANSI Layout, please tell me. i'm planning a Standard kit keycap set (144 keys?). Still in planning phase thou, will open a interest check(IC) thread in both geekhack and deskthority soon for checking interest. The main part worries me now will be the bigger keys, like spacebar(will try ask them to make space bar mold that could be able to fit both filco and leopold, a universal space bar), Shift keys and modifier 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x. not sure if they have the molding equipment for it thou. i'm interested in their K Series, high profile double injection, damn sexy This post has been edited by Cyclonechuah: Nov 28 2011, 09:10 AM |

That universal thing, i thought KBC already had made those?? Their larger PBT keycaps, for example the spacebar, at the bottom, there are all the stem receiver at all the different distances, pretty neat already... |

Keycaps profile from KBC do not match Devlin or Cherry Version.
Bear in mind, spacebar stem width for FC200R and FC300R/FC500R are different. KBC spacebar fits the FC200R, i.e. the Tenkeyless version |

Yeah, they are high profile spherical, since their keycap molding are old school type. but i think it's comfortable enough anyway. For the Universal Spacebar, KBC already had those in PBT Keycaps, but wouldn't it be pain in the ass for ordering from both Devlin and KBC? plus color does not match too. IMSTO from KBC only offers White PBT Universal Spacebar for the moment. KBC spacebar fits the FC200R, i.e. the Tenkeyless version FC700 spacebar will be compatible with FC500. Hello guys, newbie into Mechanical KBs here.
Anyway, i only learned about mechanical keyboards lately, and i went to read up on the mechanical keyboard guide. I am currently using a Razer Lycosa, which, unfortunately, is a complete piece of sticky shit and i regret every cent spent on it. I am looking for a switch to mechanical keyboard as soon as possible, and i need some advice from fellow veterans here. With the nature of mechanical keyboards, i am expecting a high price tag in general, so what would be the cheapest, yet decent affordable gaming grade mechanical keyboard, and the easiest way to buy it in malaysia selangor region? |

QUOTE(Akiyo @ Nov 28 2011, 10:14 PM) Hello guys, newbie into Mechanical KBs here. Erm... not a veteran here, but can give you some advices, but whether it is proved useful to you is totally up to your speculation.... Anyway, i only learned about mechanical keyboards lately, and i went to read up on the mechanical keyboard guide. First, you need to know what switches you are intended to use, which in this case, is best if you can try the switches yourself... Secondly, the price tag varies with different brands and different switches, the cheapest mechanical keyboard now (which i think it is...) is based on Alps mechanical switches, Ducky Alps, aroun Rm180 when reached here.... but if you want cherry mx switches, there are a wide range of choices.... Thirdly, there are no gaming grade mechanical keyboard, this question have been asked and asked and asked for all eternity, and the answer is still the same, the switch that suits you the best is your best mechanical keyboard. Because i saw people playing FPS with cherry mx blues and can pawn noobs with cherry mx black even though the general thinks that cherry mx black is best suited for FPS games. The point here is, choose what you want.... dont trust others... others can only give recommendations and suggestions, but the final decision rests ultimately on your choice..... Well, i think i talked too much as im still a newbie myeslf.... so before i being shoot by veterans here, i think you can also wait suggestions from mod cyclone, veteran Squarebox, lucidits, keazyc and kaiserreich to answer.... if they will... |

Thanks for the quick response.
The person who introduced me to the mechanical KB scene is a Cherry MX red user actually, but i didnt know Cherry MX Red refers to a series of switch mechanism, instead of a certain Brand as i thought. From the looks of it, i will be avoiding any Alps. I am thinking Cherry switches would be nice. Does the actuation force actually mean anything other than the strength needed to push the key? Like say, in general, a lower actuation force means quicker input from finger to keyboard because less strength is needed? Oh, and i am a little confused between Tactile and Linear. But for now, i frequent games that requires double tap, so Cherry MX Black is appealing to me the most for now. Oh, and what about Gaming company endorsed keyboards? Such as steelseries and Razer, do they do anything more or they are just the same in general? Generally, the area i am living is horrendous in terms of finding PC related stuff. Most shop doesnt even carry mouse pricing at RM15 above. The only good source is Klang's The Store/Shaw Centerpoint, where theres a shop that carries mostly everything available. Hence, if said keyboard is widely available withins reach, instead of needing to rely on a online purchase, it would be a even bigger plus. |

QUOTE(Akiyo @ Nov 28 2011, 10:53 PM) Thanks for the quick response. The nearest to check up is low yat if u stay at klang (subang mordeno got sell but not sure there got sample for u to test or not). Well the force itself is depend on u comfortable level of using the switch. If u want compare go try ur fren MX red, IF MX red give u feel too light than u can go for black switch which need more force. Than MX red is almost identical to MX brown in term of force needed but MX brown is tactical switch that u will heard and feel "click" when u press the key in between (some ppl like this feel some not)The person who introduced me to the mechanical KB scene is a Cherry MX red user actually, but i didnt know Cherry MX Red refers to a series of switch mechanism, instead of a certain Brand as i thought. If u not need blink blink stuff like light, Audio port or USB port a regular model is fulfill ur need. If u plan to buy at shop the brand available will be Filco Razer Steelserious Which 3 brand price their KB aroound 400-500 if u looking for cheaper alternative find our forumer cyclonechua for leopard brand which price around 3xx and storm88 for ducky brand. Hope this help. |

QUOTE(Akiyo @ Nov 28 2011, 10:53 PM) Thanks for the quick response. well, linear switch is where you press the switch straight down without any bump, while tactile switch is where you will experience a bump when pressing down the switch. The most significant tactile switch is the blue switch, loud annoying click. You can get more info related to cherry MX switches by referring to the 1st post of this thread. Ouch. I was hoping to avoid Razer's Blackwidow Ultimate due to its RM500+ pricetag, but i figured since it had fancy light and usb ports and what not, it could be cheaper if i didnt want those fancy extras.
I am beginning to feel Razer is kinda a rip off, and all the extra money is with its By Gamer for Gamer motto... because so far, i am not exactly happy with their stuff. (So far owned a Imperator, Lycosa, and Goliathus. Which, other than my mousepad, the keyboard and mouse is labelled shit bundle by others. I guess thats the price to pay when i wasnt exactly buying the best Razer could offer with their insane price tag.) Oh well. Low Yat have everything i would need and test, right? Is there like a physical address i can GPS my way to? I live in Klang Utama and is pretty road blind, so a address list/address to the nearest low yat would be nice. EDIT: Oh wait, Razer's Blackwidow Ultimate is RM380 according to CZone's catalog. Is that a universal price or its just that particular shop? Some reviews from Lowyat's Blackwidow Owners would be nice, too! This post has been edited by Akiyo: Nov 28 2011, 11:27 PM |
