[blue]Barcraft in Singapore[/blue]

Howdy ho,

We are organizing a BARCRAFT in Singapore for MLG Providence.

Date: Saturday 19th November 2011
Time: 9.00PM SGT till 1.00AM
Venue: Molly Mallone's Irish Pub, 56 Circular Road, Singapore 04911

[sblue]Some important informations about this event:[/sblue]

    * The bar is opened for people under 18 years old.
    * Alcohol is sold for 18+ only. Don't cheat if you're under 18, i don't want to end up the barcraft at the police station.
    * I booked the place from 9PM till 1AM. The games of MLG Providence will only start at 10PM, but if you come earlier it'll be more quiet to chat a bit about starcraft and other stuff.
    * We'll have to order at least 4 food platers (for 20 people, 10bux per person), so please take at least 10bux with you for the barcraft. and don't eat before the barcraft or the food platers will all finish in the void (as know as "my stomach").
    * We'll all have to behave correctly, it is our first Barcraft and i don't want it spoiled if some people can't handle alcohol and start calling Raoul here and there (Rrrraaaaaaoooooouull)

[sblue]Why must you come to the barcraft?[/sblue]

    * Because you love starcraft
    * Because you love beer
    * Because you'll get the chance to meet and chat famous singaporean starcraft 2 players.
    * Because i'll give away free autographs
    * Because we'll discuss about the incoming events in Singapore for SC2 scene.

The room can host between 20 and 30 people, if you are interested to join this event, please let us know by posting inside this thread. It will give us a good idea of how many people may join. The more we order beer/drinks/food, happier will be the management of the bar, and the more likely we are to make again a Barcraft for next MLG.

[sblue]A small review concerning the bar:[/sblue]

"You can't possibly get more authentic than with Molly Malone's. Designed and built in Ireland, the pub was then shipped and reassembled here. It also holds the honours of being the first Irish pub to open here. Packed practically every single day of the week, it's not hard to see why this pub has become such a popular fixture in the business district - the atmosphere is always lively and exceedingly friendly, and its signature fish and chips comes in generous portions, with melt-in-your-mouth batter and crispy thick cut fries."

[spoiler=photo outside the bar]
[/spoiler]

[spoiler=photo intside the bar]
[/spoiler]

[sblue]What do we need now?[/sblue]

  1. Get one laptop for the stream - EvilSWAT
  2. Get cables to connect the laptop with the TV - EvilSWAT
  3. Get someone to take photos/make video to make a nice blog/report on sc2sea
  4. Get a MLG account

So now you book your 19th november, you find any excuse for girlfriend/boyfriend/parent, and we meet at Molly Mallone's for the first Barcraft ever in Singapore.

If you have any enquiries, feel free to PM me, or post in this thread, or contact at 81232926.

Possible if there is someone willing to take charge of this.

But also this is quite hard to be done since sc2 isn't so popular in Malaysia.

I would love to go if there is one, but don't forget there will be timing problems too for events like MLG where it is usually like after midnight all the way until morning hours.

Can always suggest to FXOBoss for this. drool.gif

Dude this is going to replace the boring game call soccer, where people stay up till the next day to watch, besides SC2 people do not sleep. We do not need that many people just look at the amount of people participating in Sg.

i asked boss on his stream like.......3 months ago. but last time he said that the potential consumer base was near to non existence as majority of our communities are younger (mostly college students?). go to a local LAN event and you can see alot of youngsters. maybe only 30-50% of all can go to a barcraft.

but if u say the guys in in FXO are working it out, means they had seen a growth in our community.

I have to say, as interesting as the idea sounds, I can begin to imagine how the crowds will be separated between the hardcore sc2-ers and the casual sc2-ers and the smokers and the none smokers and the drinkers and the none drinkers.. Good idea though.. I think I'll start it at home.. biggrin.gif

Now tell me how was the amount of people that actually really yelled or cheered during the WCG 2011 final? It's clearing showing you that it won't be possible during our WCG 2011 Malaysia Final, so little amount of people cheering for the players.

Most of the people here know nuts about how important is it to lose a single worker during the start of the game, and people thought losing workers in later game doesn't cost much.

Starcraft isn't a public content in Malaysia, people don't know hows the game like, how it supposed to be played, and yes till now i'm still seeing people in cybercafes playing with AI, and then do simcity block on their ramp 1 basing like for the whole game.

I wish there's one in Malaysia, but what i have to say, something that isn't supposed to happen, won't happen.

Trust me, it won't happen in Malaysia.

I can say the FXO isn't really "open" to public if you get what i mean, where-as WCG is held at shopping mall which is open public, and yet not so much people come to see.

FYI in Malaysia, pub/bar/club owners won't simply let people to organize an event for you commons out there unless you're able to bring crowds into it, what people in Malaysia sees money first instead of your intention of the event, be realistic.

And it's people like you, with that sickening plague of pessimism that hinders efforts like these. If you want to post something that is against this effort, at least have the courtesy to make it a constructive one.

*Edit; Did you SEE the crowd in the FXO Open #1? There were at least 20 more participants compared to WCG, which, according to you, is more "open". So are you telling me that these tournaments are not generating ANY buzz at all? Are you saying that whatever they are doing has not worked out as expected?

I'm just voicing out my opinion, take it or not its your choice, i just want the people to at least take my point into account when they are going to host one in the future.

Now for your edited part, now we are talking about the crowds, not the players, and also, are there actually demands for this in Malaysia?

Yes, I am perfectly well aware of that, It's the fact that you post like you know everything about it, which makes your post quite agitating to the hopeful ones. If you want to voice out your opinions, fine, let people know what you think about it. But why not do it in a more humble manner? Instead of shit-nuking your way through?

Because being much more straight forward is much better than taking people to the whole world and then back to the point? At least i prefer that way.

Well you guys can actually start out from Overtime if you guys ever wanted to start one, but i doubt if they have internet connection when they don't even provide WiFi, lol.

I agree with you, look at singapore their crowd isn't big. All movements start out small and after that its how we grow big. I would say that this is a very positive way to get the ball rolling, I would really look forward to BarCraft in Malaysia. look at singapore their crowd isnt big but its a start atleast. rclxm9.gif

tat's what they used to say about foreign scene before sc2 tournaments...

being so pessimistic at the start is =.=

Why not take things step by step. FXO 1st step is organizing tournaments in Malaysia to attract many more gamers to Starcraft 2 community here. When the community grows bigger, then only implement this. It will be more successful.

That is precisely what they are doing at the moment I think. Hopefully over time these events will act as a catalyst to the growth of SC2 and E-Sports in general in Malaysia, and when that time comes, it will be glorious, my brothers.

Because you're being pessimist without trying in the first place. At least someone is there trying to put effort to make esports better without any hidden intention to earn $$ unlike some other organizers *coughs*

You gotta give credit for trying pull things off for the good of us, but not of themselves yo! Don't start crying when FXO decides to move on investing in other country as their players are more responsive and participate with the events held by them.

They are doing all of these for us with the price of FREE. What you can do is to at least support them, as free lunch does not come all the time smile.gif

Well there's actually alot of things to consider here.... Barcraft for MLG is unlikely..... Considering the time for it and GSL would be too early.... So our time zone here is actually quite awkward... Any barcraft event i would say DreamHack...

Starcraft is still relatively new in Malaysia E-Sport scene, so any any event done will be a new landmark for us... so have hope Keazyc... Atleast there's a start comparing to the good old BW...

Last but not least... Age restriction, back in Blitzone, i saw quite a few youngster and i would doubt their parent nor the owner of the bar will allow them to enter... XD

wow, and to think back some time ago the "regular pessimists" are suddenly all optimists, intriguing i find it.

and just so one guy didnt quite happen to get the memo on going over the fence, and or having a friggin spine for voicing out opinions over a free public board, he gets clobbered up and zerged to death. nice, really nice.

i mean, if these FXO dudes are so determined to make things work, i doubt one small little opinion from one small little man in a public board would hinder them, right? in fact, if they are truly doing this for the sake of community, they should humbly be accepting all sorts of opinions, be it good or bad, and apply according as necessary.

of course at the end of the day, i guess none of us here can speak on behalf of FXO, right? ill just leave it at that.
and yes, also voicing my opinions accordingly.

my suggestion, the most possible way it could ever turn out is a Barcraft at someone's house. but its very unlikely someone would offer their place for ppl in lowyat forum to go right...

my version of barcraft is bunch of close friends (5-7) come to my house on GSL final saturday to drink and watch. had been doing this for 2-3 seasons already.

BArcraft can happen in malaysia. All you need is just get a smaller pub like raggee bar in petaling street or any bars that is not too big and yet have cool big plasma tv with good internet connection.

You dont need a big crowd to be happy in a barcraft, you just need people who share the same interest to enjoy a good drink.

Isnt barcraft a better way to amaze your dotard friends? bring and influence them. For me i just wanna down some heineken while complaining about balance.

Well said dear sir (points up).. The thing right now is that at the way Malaysians view professional gaming, we should just build Barcraft up. Start off by a few friends meeting up and watching GSL/MLG at someone's house, at least we know that the internet connection would be up to a certain standard and the videos CAN be watched. Sincerely doubt we'll have a decent enough internet connection in public places cause somehow somewhere there will be some clown piggybacking on the connection and hogging all the internet streaming speed.

I like the idea though. Getting a bunch of people together to watch GSL and with everyone chipping in, it's going to cost nothing and having company when watching a good game is just awesome fun.

I just need to find someone in Penang who shares the same level of interest.. hmm.gif

You could try with Overtime first, one thing i know about them is...no internet connection (since not providing free wifi, so i doubt no internet connection as well).

I would say Station 1... Although it's sucks to say but apparently it's the best i could think of... Every Station 1 have a projecter on the centre stage with a decent unifi connection for them although it's a cafe rather than bar... i guess they would have to disable wifi for optimum viewing pleasure.... Worst Case Scenario.... Go and look for Uncle M.. LOL

P/S: What kind of bar u guys prefer?.. Irish Bar?(Stout Lover Favourtie)... Jazz Bar?(With Live Jazz Band... Althought we're suppose to be watching Starcraft, i think their speaker system would sound better?)...

Station 1 is a good choice.

we should start checking out bars with Unifi connection. dont need to be very famous bar, just a small one will do. then we can proceed to talk to the owner. cuz as long as they optimize it for 1 stream, i bet it will suffice.

this is quite impossible to satisfy even though our country is not as huge as US. It's up to commitment to come down and join the event/tournament. For example MLG, every tournament also they organize at different place but still got ppl come all the way from (?) to the place.

And of course impossible u guys want to held sc2 events at the northern states right?

Yeah exactly, I'm just pointing out the fact that it will be impossible to cater the entire sc2 audience in the whole of Malaysia. So I'm assuming the first Barcraft will be probably held somewhere around KL, where (hopefully) MOST of the SC2 crowd resides in.

Which brings us to the next question, which part of KL would be most accessible to the people of Selangor? The city centre of KL would be quite impractical for a lot of us as the traffic congestion is just simply stupid. I was thinking somewhere around Damansara, Subang Jaya or maybe even Bangsar.

as if SJ/damansara would be of any different.

if you're in KV, you can pretty much rule out traffic concerns as worrying about everything would lead to nothing.

Dont think so cause the general mentality of Malaysians still think games are for kiddies.

If there is one in Malaysia, i am going for it, especially some tournament finals. Watching Starcraft competitive matches are far more exciting than any sports for me.

Penang here Penang here, I can ask my friends to join too. Use my stream bcos I subscribed d, can watch HQ. GSL final will be interesting event to watch together. But I like the Barcraft idea, I love to drink and during the time btwn the match, we can go find other girls to chit chat. With SC2 here, I might just got another new dimension of chatting topic with them. COOL!

At the moment due to hesitation from Bars to actually host it. It looks like pavillion is the most likely location. (Connections).

I know its not greatly accessible so no need to complain at me tongue.gif The idea is to support it early, and then venues closer to home are more likely to invite us/ask us to help them do barcraft.

Also pavillion gives great exposure to boost starcraft in Malaysia, and help e-sports grow. As the human traffic there is far greater than the likes of subang or damansara.

Now to be blunt about things in Malaysia. (its same in australia)

No matter what anyone does, some people will never be satisfied. So its best to ignore the complaints unless they are event related such as "i was beaten up by cobo for saying his pvp sux". That is a true issue. A whine about the location, is not necessary, because its very HARD to get something professional set up in e-sports in malaysia due to cultural and image issues. So we need to support e-sports in any way possible, no matter where or when, just try to support, either via watching streams or being on the field watching live. It all helps in every way.

I will update you guys if i get a final confirmation for a venue, then we can plan the invasion!

A whine about the location, is not necessary, because its very HARD to get something professional set up in e-sports in malaysia due to cultural and image issues. well said.

and i personally agree with pavilion as the location. easier exposure, and most importantly, human traffic is guaranteed. parking isnt a total nightmare if you can ignore the price, or you may even park further on open car parks, or even at Fahrenheit 88 if parking price is an issue, you just have to walk further (win some lose some, money vs walking distance, your call)

if this is really going down, maybe ill come join smile.gif

Let's do it at FXO team house? We get beers and food from supermarket and share it during the event, I believe everyone will be satisfied as the cost of spending is cheaper, we can even have barbecue during all this..and most importantly if boss doesnt mind. tongue.gif

However it might not representing the title of 'barcraft' which should be held in bar but the substantial purpose for it will be satisfied in a way, which is gathering people from around the town and have fun watching people play starcraft and do what we normally like to do, drink beers and bbq, for this instance, even under age fellows can have alcohol without any restriction.

Just a curious question, is the community of avid SC2 players in Malaysia lurk around the Lowyat's SC2 forum? Because if boss really does want to organize Barcraft, it's always good to try to reach out the mass of the community and starting off in KL is a great idea as it will hype up the event. I'd really love to see this event come to happen so.. yeah...

Haha, then must post in TL's site or any other places like the local SC2 clans or something just to create mass marketing and if the first event successful, there will definitely be lounges and pubs just waiting to host their very own Barcraft.. smile.gif thumbup.gif

TBH I think that Pavillion would be a great location. Its central for everyone and its easily accessible other than the JAM. Can always car pool or take public transport and carpool back.

GUYS LET US ALL WEAR SC2 TSHIRTS for BARCRAFT!!!!

everyone should do their duty to help boss find a suitable bar. whenever go drinking, just ask if they use unifi as wifi....

anyway that day when i pass by old town white coffee, they put a big banner showing they are providing free 5mbps unifi for free. i know old town white coffee is not a bar but might worth considering.

We seem to have been able to secure a date for Barcraft. Venue is TBA.

Should I post a new thread or post the details here? Event etc?

It will be Starting 21st January most probably. And every weekend until 2nd weekend of february. We will do the FXO invitational series, as we dont require internet to play it. Malaysia will get first viewing of the broadcast.

I am talking about the global invitational.. Not the Malaysian one.. This is for players like DRG, bomber etc.. We will broadcast it to Malaysians at barcraft before we broadcast it to the world.

FXOpenIS is pre-recorded so it will be played on the big screen, not streamed. That way, no internet connection is required for the broadcasters to play it.

Hello guys... just wanna intro myself. I love SC2 and I play Zerg, on the NA server.
Its the best game ever created IMHO.

Was wondering if you guys would like to join forces and make a barcraft event happen! I can arrange barcrafts on a regular basis in a friends bar in PUBLIKA, Solaris Dutamas. Venue has 3 large projectors and LCD screens.

Hoping for your support and we can catch the WCS2015 with fellow gamers together!
