First of all, thanks fellow forumers RangerRed and aasing for bringing Nwavguy's O2 Headamp to Lowyat.net

O2: High Performance Portable/Home Amp, by NwAvGuy

[WTA] O2 desktop/portable headphone amp, Objective 2 headphone amp (Amplifiers)

Lots of information are available at Nwavguy's blog, and it's worthy to give a try,as decent headamps around us are not cheap anyway tongue.gif

I am quite interested in this amp, but probably going to buy a completed amp instead of building one for myself.

Complete amp is under planning,as the enclosure recommended by Nwavguy is not cheap in Malaysia blush.gif ,naked amp is easier sweat.gif

Nope,if using local PCB manufacturer, the NRE (set-up) cost is already over RM200,and individual PCB cost is around RM10,UNLESS order is over a few hundred units, otherwise per PCB cost is high to me.

Those blank PCBs are "Chinese Airborne Unit" tongue.gif ,u get the meaning...

As u can see,5 units finished, just waiting for the arrival of casing, next month probably...

Actually I already got my own review, but to be fair and square, need to ask others to review for me...

Reality is,if u are using a 600 ohms headphone with O2,powered it by AC adapter...

But if u not using those high ohms stuff, then powered it by batteries, sure catch your ears... rclxms.gif

How much to build/ buy pimeta?

If the price of the amp falls within the amount that i have, i might consider buying it to test out. Spend too much already. Anyway how is the speed? Im in seriious need of a fast amp for my jh. What 600 ohm headphone you have tested now.

i think the only 600ohmers i know of are the DT770/880/990 series and T1. HE-5 / HE-6 & LCD-2 are power hungry (low efficiency) but are not 600ohms.

using standard components recommended by tangent, maybe around 300-400.

but if using lipo battery and custom enclosure (like i did), you might ended up in the RM600 price range tongue.gif

using ad8620, pimeta is very neutral and transparant. neutral with a hint of brightness. speed is very good. no hiss even with phonak or my low impedance im716

i once owned RSA Protector and to me pimeta is the better amp brows.gif

plus, this thing drives my hd580 effortlessly with ipod as the source brows.gif brows.gif

hongrui, if you have o2, please let me try it for some time tongue.gif

AKG is not hard to drive... generally bass lite drivers are the easiest..
It's only the bass heavy like German Maestro and HD650... thats where the extra juice kicks in..

Fellow forumer raykoh5's mini review

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=48372757

QUOTE(raykoh5 @ Jan 20 2012, 12:09 AM)
Leolabs Nwavguy o2 impressions/comparisons

Setup = Sansa Clip+, Hifiman re262, Soundmagic PL-30, O2 amp, Govibe Mini Box Amplifier

Clip+ and re262
>Re262 sounds thin, bass is anemic, highs are dull, mid is the only thing present. Overall, the sound presentation is like looking at the sunset through a telescope. You can hear the voice, but the rest is cut off. Notes sound like they are covered by a thicket veil.

Clip+ and Govibe MBA and re262
>MBA has V-shape sound according to some other reviews. So bass is slightly empowered but not a lot, (even my soundmagic  pl30 has more sub bass), highs are more prominent and mids have retained their position. Overall the sound is better defined. Notes are revealed by going under the blanket. But its a bit dark under the veil.

Clip+ and o2 and re262
>The sound is clean, squeaky clean. Govibe mini box has a tested THD+N of 0.008% which i consider pretty good. But the o2 has THD+N 0.0016%. I can hear the subtle differences and realize it is too clean. I like my songs a bit dirty, rugged and rough. They sound musical in their own distorted way.

Bass is sharp or tight, compared to the MBA (honestly prefer a bit of messy bass).
With o2 its like listening to your friend talk in a sound tight room, there's no fan, or fridge sound running in the background. There is no air or space between me and the vocals. It sounds like the sound is coming directly from the instruments without having any interferences.
Highs are sweet and unobtrusive. The veilis lifted and what a sterile sound it is. Everything is revealed and nothing is left hidden.

Leolabs did a good job making the amp and delivered it fast.

Build 8/10
Looks 5/10
Portability 5/10
Sound 10/10

Thank God these are made for the ears and not the eyes. Joking, they aren't too bad looking.
They have wings too but why can't they fly?

can't do muc about the dac, i guess as it's very difficult to ensure clean soldering of the dac, diy style.

nwavguy did mentioned he did not want people to dispute the odac because of a bad soldering job, so the only way to qc the product is to ask for a 3rd party to manufacture assembled boards.

btw, i'm looking forward for his oda+odac combo. might be the best bang-for-buck audio amplifier since fiio came out.

can't do muc about the dac, i guess as it's very difficult to ensure clean soldering of the dac, diy style.

nwavguy did mentioned he did not want people to dispute the odac because of a bad soldering job, so the only way to qc the product is to ask for a 3rd party to manufacture assembled boards.

btw, i'm looking forward for his oda+odac combo. might be the best bang-for-buck audio amplifier since fiio came out.

me too. will get it after I got my headphones, but, definitely have to work first. tongue.gif

The Android-powered smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III interworks with the ODAC:

SGS3 > digital audio stream >> USB DAC "ODAC" >> amp "O2" >> headphone

It’s interesting that the SGS3 can power the ODAC, which is a USB powered 24/96 DAC, without a powered USB hub.

Is that a micro USB to USB adapter or is that a USB OTG?

It's a USB OTG cable: Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S III acting as USB host, and USB DAC as USB device.

Just got my hand on the ODAC this afternoon. What a great sounding USB DAC, definitely the most transparent of any USB DAC I have ever heard.

Just got my ODAC, it is small and compact, really easy to take to anywhere, ofcause it sound very good and detail also.
Only complain is the output is a bit low, but mating with O2 is perfect.

Have the O2 for sometime already, I use it to drive audio technica cks77 and sen hd650. I feel it is lacking in bass to my liking, I found this mod in DiyAudio http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/headphone-s...tml#post2924330 look at post 59, the guy listed out how to do it. I have done it, and I don't have a switch like him to turn it on/off, mine stay on all the time. I found the extra bass I need after the mod. If you want some more bass with O2, you should try this mod, adding the C value will give you higher bass boost.

It is design to drive most of the h/p, it shouldn't be a problem to drive shure se535. You can google around, I am sure some shure owner has mention it some where in Internet.

I copy this out for you "RUN TIME - The default design with 250 mAH Ni-MH batteries has 7 – 9 hours of run time on a charge. "

You can read all about it here http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/08/o2-details.html

a fast test on power, based on volume knob:

1. Miracle CIEM, less than 8 o clock twist
2. DT770 250 ohm 10-11 o clock twist
3. DrVero 150 9-10 o clock twist
4. XP 1 and 3 less than 8 o clock twist

so much power in this thing~

it will become double amping, which no one can be certain it will sound like what, for your situation, if you using on a pc, take the odac, and use the speaker amp, if for living room, then i dont know whistling.gif
