First of all, thanks fellow forumers RangerRed and aasing for bringing Nwavguy's O2 Headamp to Lowyat.net

O2: High Performance Portable/Home Amp, by NwAvGuy

[WTA] O2 desktop/portable headphone amp, Objective 2 headphone amp (Amplifiers)

Lots of information are available at Nwavguy's blog, and it's worthy to give a try,as decent headamps around us are not cheap anyway tongue.gif

Some features (Contents taken from Nwavguys's blog):

-Works well with nearly all headphones from 16 – 600 ohms

-Front panel switchable gain for best headphone & source compatibility

-High Output: 7 Volts RMS & 200+ mA peak current

-Current limiting to help protect low impedance headphones from damage

-Unique battery rundown protection prevents battery & headphone damage

-No volume control “rustling” (unwanted noise when changing volume settings)

-Optimal star ground and true split bipolar power supply (NO ground splitter)

-Multi-stage design with local feedback improves noise, distortion and stability

-Individual output stages for each channel improves performance

-RF and DC input protection, brief short circuit output protection

-Fast: Slew Rate 3+ times faster than worst case requirement & bandwidth>250 kHz

you can buy the pcb only from jds labs, no need to GB anymore: http://www.jdslabs.com/item.php?fetchitem=O2PCB
*
I already got the PCBs,almost same price per unit, but lower shipping cost (if by Pos Laju) rclxms.gif

I am quite interested in this amp, but probably going to buy a completed amp instead of building one for myself.
*
Complete amp is under planning,as the enclosure recommended by Nwavguy is not cheap in Malaysia blush.gif ,naked amp is easier sweat.gif

you use local pcb manufacturer? nicee..
*
Nope,if using local PCB manufacturer, the NRE (set-up) cost is already over RM200,and individual PCB cost is around RM10,UNLESS order is over a few hundred units, otherwise per PCB cost is high to me.

Those blank PCBs are "Chinese Airborne Unit" tongue.gif ,u get the meaning...

So how is the progress now? What is the pricing if get from you? Plan to do a review of my own especially with some current hungry headphone. (not ortho, just dynamic driver that drain current)
*
As u can see,5 units finished, just waiting for the arrival of casing, next month probably...

Actually I already got my own review, but to be fair and square, need to ask others to review for me...

Reality is,if u are using a 600 ohms headphone with O2,powered it by AC adapter...

But if u not using those high ohms stuff, then powered it by batteries, sure catch your ears... rclxms.gif

Thats the thing. Way too open ended. Dont really understand the true meaning.
How much to build/ buy pimeta?

If the price of the amp falls within the amount that i have, i might consider buying it to test out. Spend too much already. Anyway how is the speed? Im in seriious need of a fast amp for my jh. What 600 ohm headphone you have tested now.

sorry about my bad English.... tongue.gif

Fellow forumer raykoh5's mini review

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=48372757

QUOTE(raykoh5 @ Jan 20 2012, 12:09 AM)
Leolabs Nwavguy o2 impressions/comparisons

Setup = Sansa Clip+, Hifiman re262, Soundmagic PL-30, O2 amp, Govibe Mini Box Amplifier

Clip+ and re262
>Re262 sounds thin, bass is anemic, highs are dull, mid is the only thing present. Overall, the sound presentation is like looking at the sunset through a telescope. You can hear the voice, but the rest is cut off. Notes sound like they are covered by a thicket veil.

Clip+ and Govibe MBA and re262
>MBA has V-shape sound according to some other reviews. So bass is slightly empowered but not a lot, (even my soundmagic  pl30 has more sub bass), highs are more prominent and mids have retained their position. Overall the sound is better defined. Notes are revealed by going under the blanket. But its a bit dark under the veil.

Clip+ and o2 and re262
>The sound is clean, squeaky clean. Govibe mini box has a tested THD+N of 0.008% which i consider pretty good. But the o2 has THD+N 0.0016%. I can hear the subtle differences and realize it is too clean. I like my songs a bit dirty, rugged and rough. They sound musical in their own distorted way.

Bass is sharp or tight, compared to the MBA (honestly prefer a bit of messy bass).
With o2 its like listening to your friend talk in a sound tight room, there's no fan, or fridge sound running in the background. There is no air or space between me and the vocals. It sounds like the sound is coming directly from the instruments without having any interferences.
Highs are sweet and unobtrusive. The veilis lifted and what a sterile sound it is. Everything is revealed and nothing is left hidden.

Leolabs did a good job making the amp and delivered it fast.

Build 8/10
Looks 5/10
Portability 5/10
Sound 10/10

Thank God these are made for the ears and not the eyes. Joking, they aren't too bad looking.
They have wings too but why can't they fly?
